I apologize in advance for this opening section, it should naturally get shorter as we get higher in the tower, and my units stop getting levels off of trash mooks.

Floor 1

Goddammit Pent you are never going to get to be a max defense sage at this rate!

Floor 2

That's better. Gerik, Marisa, and Erk are all looking good, and Priscilla is keeping pace with Tana pretty well.

Tower 3: The Waste Lands

Tower 3! Nothing new this time, but Baels are the order of the day, which makes this a relatively easy tower map for once. Also, we see our first chest hanging out up in the center. This particular chest always has the same thing in it, but once we get higher up, the chest contents are actually randomized, and you can get some seriously good shit. From the upper floors of the Tower alone, there are Fortify and Silence staves, Bolting/Purge/Eclipse, Brave weapons, Red/Blue Gems, and an assortment of more boring things like Steel/Killer weapons and their magical equivalents (Shine, Elfire, etc).

Spiders aren't much to write home about. They're strong, they can take a decent amount of punishment, but they're slow and inaccurate.

The rest of the monsters are a random assortment of stuff we've seen before, and none of them are particularly threatening.

Finally, we have the boss. I'm not really sure what the point of Elder Baels really is, since if you look at a regular Bael, they have the same, or at least very similar caps. I guess the extra Con and 1 Move is supposed to be the real threat?

Gerik could probably tear up this entire floor by himself, and will spend the entire update setting up easy kills for the rest of the party. It's a pretty sweet gig, all things considered.

Like so. Unfortunately, I had a slight miscalculation with the Tarvos, so Innes finishes the job.

The biggest issue with the floor is that if the spiders do land, it hurts. Gerik could have taken two hits from this particular spider, and he'd be at 1 HP if he was at full to start. You'd have to be trying really hard to get doubled by these guys though, so as long as you position yourself well, it's never really a problem.

Marisa is lucky that I'm not quite ready to burn my last Hero's Crest use yet. I'll see how she turns out after Chp 11/Tower 4 and see if she's overtaken Lyn as the number one contender until I get a second Hero's Crest.

Spoilers: The second use is going to Gerik.

This represents an interesting challenge. The spider on the stairs will leave us alone, but even ignoring him, there's four spiders right in front of us, and that's playing the odds a little more than I would like. Let's do a little extermination. Neimi starts us off with a crit to kill the first one.

Innes and Forde knock out the next one.

Gerik hops out in front, and Tana covers Innes. The south spider will move first and go after Tana, and there's only one space the other two spiders can attack Gerik from, he's guaranteed to be safe.

Like so.

An unfortunately mistimed button press causes Innes to rescue Tana instead of attacking a Bael, so I have to improvise a defensive formation.

Natasha is carting around my chest key, so Innes, Forde, and Tana start moving north to clear out the area. Gerik, Neimi, and Erk continue to push forward, while Marisa hangs out and waits for reinforcements that never come. I guess I finished early, because I could have sworn there were reinfocements on this floor.

There's one small complication with the north part. The right skeleton has something I want, but if I go into his range, he'll attack me and I'll lose the opportunity to get it. Innes is going to wait just out of range so I can go in and snipe him when I'm ready.

You need to die, and...

So yeah, you can get some really good stuff off of skeletons if you're lucky. I actually had an opportunity to get a Runesword on the first floor, but I didn't realize he had one and walked Innes into the very edge of his range. Suffice to say I was very angry about walking away with a Slim Lance.

Forde and Tana do a quick Rescue-Take-Drop to pull Innes out, and now we just have to kill the guys who are left and claim the chest.

Tana dodges the spiders and dispenses some pain for a good level.

Unfortunately, this is a boring chest. Won't complain about the extra spending money, though.

The boss goes down like a chump, but gets the last laugh on Gerik.

However, being at 92 experience gives him an easy second chance. Can't complain about the second result.

Neimi takes out the last spider and we're golden. I apologize if this was a boring update, but this was an easier floor of the tower, and it was intended to level up Gerik, who may have trivialized things a little.

And speaking of Gerik, we've got one last matter to attend to. Rangers are functionally identical to the Nomad Troopers of FE7, using swords and bows on a horse. While Rangers are a really useful class, Gerik generally doesn't make a very good one. His speed growth is pretty bad, so he's never going to push the 30 Speed cap, and while his 13 Con isn't wasted on bows, he has better things to be doing with it. He's good no matter which way you upgrade, but unless you need another bow user (and you really shouldn't, with both Neimi and Innes), Hero's the better choice.

Hero gives him slightly more constrained caps, but 15 Con can easily handle anything that's not a Brave or specialty axe on top of every sword, and if you missed that particular point of contention from earlier in the LP, this makes Gerik the first unit I have that can even use axes in the first place. Plus, Rangers haven't been modified (to my knowledge), so Hero Gerik at least gets Assassinate as a small counterpoint to the ranger's horse.

Goddammit game I unlocked Caellach, why can't I just have him now.
