Chapter 2: A Detour

Linoan's map sprite suddenly reverts to that of a female!Lord, for mysterious and unknown reasons.

I would not take any detour suggested by Sain.

I'm going to guess NOT getting the Mani Katti.

Uhhh.

: Sain!

: What? What did I do?

: This isn't the path to Caelin! We just had to take a detour, did we not?

-laugh track-

: Oh, so you're saying this is my fault now, are you? I thought that this would get us there faster!

Yes. It kind of IS your fault.

: You would think more on your sense of direction! Instead, we are now lost, and wasting valuable time!

: This isn't the time to be fighting amongst each other!

: ...My apologies, milady.

: ...He started it.

Meanwhile...

Tome? What tome?

: It is a sacred spell, under divine protection! It cannot be removed from its place of rest!

: Oh, really? I plan on becoming a Mage Fighter! I must have it!

Having Mage Fighters in this game would be pretty cool. I say let him have it.

: A-a Mage Fighter? In this Fire Emblem?! Sacrilege! That is against this game's protocols!

So is having magic in Chapter 1. Didn't stop us.

Ooooh! A Regal Sword? Kingsword? Master Sword?!

...It's going to be an Iron Sword, isn't it.

: Now listen here! I am Glass, a man whose name is feared by the gods! And if I want this tome, this tome I shall have! Now, out of my way!

Glass is sort of a Fire Emblem meme and I'm not sure why. GhebFE casts him as the peerless swordsman he always wanted to be (but got stabbed by Lyn before he could become.)

Old Dude is a Sage. Why is he not smiting Glass with Elfire right now?

: I will become a Mage Fighter with this!

Yes! Go! Do it!

: Hm? What's this? I can't... take the tome... from its place of rest?

: I told you! It is against the rules! You can never become a Mage Fighter!

: What? Listen, old man, if you value your own life, you'll get out of my sight!

I HAVE MONEY

: I care nothing for them!

oh.

I am sure that will help.

Woman: Are you headed east? To the altar?

: We have nowhere else to go right now.

Woman: Then you must hurry and help the priest there. I saw a band of local ruffians head in not too long ago. They seemed intent on stealing the altar's scared spell!

: Ah! They're going to do what? We cannot allow this to happen!

Woman: You look like a virtuous group! Please, help him!

No. Don't do that. It's pointless. They never give you stuff. Most of them aren't even changed in this hack.

AUGH

Yes. How thrilling.

: Tell me what you would like me to do, Aranea.

FINE.

I'll just walk AWAY from the big blobs of EXP walking towards us!

Woman: Oh! You're going to help the priest! Well, perhaps you could benefit from something I saw earlier... The bandits may have the main entrance guarded. However, one of the altar's walls is cracked and in poor repair. You might be able to create another entrance by hitting that section with your weapons. We're all counting on you!

I'm abridging these. The next one tells us about mountains and how unlike in Skyrim, horses can't walk over them.

Too right.

The last house tells us the tome is called Prism Pillar. Apparently it's very similar in nature to a ?certain magic tome?. It still murders armoured and mounted stuff. Okay.

I googled Prism Pillar and all I got was a load of bathroom taps for sale. Alright then.

Next turn:

Indeed. Now to look at Glass.

+1HP, +4SKL, +3SPD, +1DEF. He does indeed have an Iron Sword, which ensures he never gets a chance to use those added stats to attack because Linoan will be sniping him from range.

I keep the Cavaliers out of the action while sending Linoan to solo the whole map because she can one-round these guys too.

Like so.

I'll take it, I guess. After the Enemy Phase...

He really is.

Light magic is accurate enough that the Brigand being in a forest shouldn't matter at all.

And it doesn't. Next turn, range continues being overpowered, while the Cavaliers continue being sequestered in a corner:

And Linoan spends two turns hiking through mountains because wasting tome uses on a wall seems silly.

I like to imagine I'm making a grand entrance here.

Linoan continues to dodge axes like a pro, and...

...Ehh. Could be worse. Definitely want to see some Magic soon though. I'm not gonna be able to one-round forever at this rate.

Teehee.

A good one, because you won't move your ass off that throne and unless you're plannng on hurling that sword, you can't counterattack while Linoan blasts you with light magic.

The throne fails to recover enough of Glass' HP to stop me killing him this round.

Yes, yes I do.

That's pretty dark, MK.

Everyone keeps saying this. Isn't she dressed like a priestess?

: I'm Linoan, the Duchess of Tahra. Are you alright, sir?

: Thanks to you, I am unscathed. You have my gratitude.

: And the tome? Is it safe?

: Until I remove my spell, it cannot be drawn. Now, as a token of gratitude, you may lay your hands on the tome.

: Oh, thank you. ? Hm?

Awww yes. Mage Fighter Linoan! (Shut up I can dream)

: Oh...! M-me?

Lesson one of adventuring, Linoan. Don't turn down free loot. Especially magical loot.

: Hm. This reminds me of the time when that girl came here and received the Mani Katti.

So she had the Mani Katti, and still got killed by Batta. What.

: Hm? When was that?

: Not too long ago, actually. Ah, I can remember it as if it were just yesterday.

: I never dared to hope that I might meet the wielder of the Mani Katti in my life. She was a spunky young lass, she was.

: Hm. Is that so?

I don't think Linoan really cares. At least she didn't tell him Lyn is dead.

We're not coming back, either.

: But, with the spirits accepting you, you have all rights to the Prism Pillar. Go on now, don't be shy, young one. Take it.

Custom spellbook!

It has a cross on the front, Sain, of course it does.

...twice as powerful as Lightning! 60 uses is nice, too.

: They say this tome can strike down armoured and mounted knights with little difficulty.

: Ah, I see.

Yeah I was confused by ?infantry? too, Linoan.

TO WAR!

I already did. I had to skip ahead to the next chapter to take that shot of its stats.

Meanwhile:

Soldier: Uh... Yes, Lord Lundgren. The girl is travelling with Kent and Sain. What are your orders? If we let them be...

: She's just a girl. She'll not survive her journey here. I'm more concerned with my older brother. His life must be ended quickly. The poison.... there must be no blunders.

Soldier: Yes m'lord. He suspects nothing and continues to drink it. The marquess' death, due no doubt to ?sudden illness?, is not far off.

: Soon, Caelin will be mine!!

No supervillain laugh? Okay. Your loss.
