Chapter 10: Showdown at Caelin

- - -

: pass these mountains.

: Good. We're almost there.

: Everything rests on this next battle.

: Lundgren will not be receiving the reinforcements he expected. He'll move against us with everything he has soon.

: He can do his worst! I will not be turned away! I will help out Caelin! I've come too far to let anyone stand in my way.

: We're finally going to take care of that Lundgren creep...

: I can only hope so. We've come so far now. We can go all the way.

: You guys can do this. Nothing's stopped you yet.

: I'm counting on all of you. For Caelin's future!

: Everyone, we have to do what we can! Let's go!

- - -

First, a present;

Godspeed, Marcia.

- - -

Our first move is to put her to work murdering fools.

Still beautiful.

Next, with Nils' help, Sakura goes to teach some enemies the meaning of searing pain.

And everyone else forward before the rain decides to ruin everything.

Advance guard Sakura wipes out all comers on the enemy phase. She's so awesome.

Have I mentioned I hate this chapter's gimmick? It just makes everything take longer. There's basically no point.

Surprise Marcia ambush, bitches!

You have more work to do.

More explosions! Sakura is just a glass cannon in every way.

I'm sort of impressed he can hurt her... not that he did.

Thats actually fairly damaging, but still a 3HKO. And missed anyway. She's both a blink and a face-tank.

Goodbye! Four enemies, zero damage. All hail Marcia.

Ergh. Finally. I really dislike rain. In real life, too. Messes my hair up.

This happened. It's not as momentuous as it is in FE5 cos we get the good staves waaaay later, but it's good.

In a momentuous occasion, Tempest gets his first non-scripted kill! The rest of the team is level 10 so I don't feel bad about letting him nab kills now.

Couple turns of boring walking later, time for the second present!

Woman: We're all behind you. All of us. Here, take this. Use it in your battle against Lundgren, please. It's an energy ring. It'll increase your strength and magic power a bit. There are lots of items that augment your abilities. There are hard to come by, so think hard before you use them. Of course, not using them at all would be a terrible waste as well, right? Items like this might vanish once you've used them. Bear that in mind, and use them wisely.

Got an Energy Ring.

Sure is a Nils level!

Oh, fuck that.

There we go!

The shop sells this. I'm not going to waste funds on it. Prism Pillar is everything we need and more.

The armoury is purpose-made for smashing Lundgren.

Next turn the rain starts, and fails to inspire the Water Adept to a decent level. Hmph.

I finally realise the reinforcements come from the fort Marcia is on and not those other two, and I've been screwing myself out of EXP.

There's only one left. We'll give it to Kid.

Lancereavers: Helping boost dodge rates by silly amounts! And also turning people into messy smears. Dear god.

: You will not leave these lands alive! Come!

Kid moved to attack the Knight directly in front of Lundgren, and he has a ranged attack, so he takes a shot.

Ouch!

Oh thank god.

Being hit hard seems to inspire Defence levels. I'm not complaining!

Here's old meanieface himself. He's quite formidable... 2 levels higher, with 6 HP, 3 STR, 5 SKL, 3 SPD, 2 LCK, 1 DEF and 1 RES.

I'm so glad you all gave the Energy Ring to Linoan. It lets us potentially finish off the run of one-rounding bosses with a perfect score. In theory. Linoan does, however, have a 49% chance of dying instantly, so let's not. Yet.

Instead, let's buy Marcia a present. Another one, that is.

This'll let her hurt Lundgren. She's basically the only one that can actually damage him and not get one-shotted in return. She still gets 2HKO'd, so we have her sit in front of Lundgren and Wait.

The counterattack connects! Phase one is a success. Next to heal her up, and...

Good. Perfect. Well done! Now for the finale;

: How dare you do what you have done to get to me, Lundgren!

: The Grandbell Empire is willing to end you and that prince! I'll fulfil their wishes and become a mighty ruler of Elibe!

: Blackhearted fool! You know not of God's loving embrace! You dare to cause harm to me, Prince Leaf, and your brother solely for your benefit of a secure ruling! I have neither pity nor mercy for you. Lundgren! Prepare yourself!

: Come. I will be your end.

Eat it, dick.

: That annoying little girl... Nothing but a spoiled noble brat... The Caelin throne... should be... mine...

Some last boosts for the road.

- - -

: Yes, I am. Who are you?

I completely forgot this guy had a name. Ha.

Reissmann: I had received word from Kent and Sain when you first met, but then Lundgren discovered the message and imprisoned me. It is my great pleasure to welcome you to castle Caelin.

: Thank you. May I see Lord Hausen?

Reissmann: Yes, of course. Do not be shocked by what you see. Lundgren has been poisoning the marquess's meals for some time. His body has been ravaged... he's been bedridden for months.

- - -

Oh god is this the awkward part where we tell him his granddaughter is dead?

: I said no visitors. I will see no one.

: ?

: What are you doing? Leave me... to die...

: Um... pardon me... my name is... I'm Lady Linoan of Tahra.

: Oh? Linoan of Tahra...? From Thracia, I... presume.

: Yes, that's right. We... We've come to help you... and Caelin.

: Ahh... that means... it's over. Come, come here. Let me see your face. Oh... yes... such a pretty woman. You remind me of my granddaughter... Lyndis...

: Take a look... at this picture...

: This was when she first... came... Not too long ago...

: Oh! That's the girl... in the painting and visions...!

: Although... I did hear that my dear Lyndis... She was slain by bandits shortly after... It hurt my poor soul... to hear of her death...

At least we're off the hook for telling him?

You already knew.

: Although, it makes me happy to see you alive. Now the people of Caelin can rejoice again.

: Ahh, but dear Linoan... I've taken far too much poison for too long. It's too late... I am in no shape... to lead Caelin anymore...

: You must be brave, Lord Hausen! You will recover! Believe me! You've already lasted this long so far. Your will is what is keeping you alive!

: My... will...

: Yes. Nothing can stop a person's will to live and go on. That's what I learned when my parents died. I could never give up. Especially with my friends. They stood by my side since that day.

: I... suppose...

: This is why you cannot die just yet. The people of Caelin need you now. They supported us all the way against Lord Lundgren. They want you to help Caelin regain its glory!

: I see... You're right. I still have... quite a bit of living to do.

: That's the spirit!

And that's how Linoan talked a man out of a fatal poisoning.

- - -

: Do you honestly plan on remaining here? Tell me truly!

: Well, until Lord Hausen is well, at least. Then, I'll have to go and find my friends again.

Probably a good idea to keep a healer on-hand.

: It's like he was never ill. And it's all thanks to you, milady.

: It's as I told him. You can't stop a person's will.

: You did very well, Marcia.

Understatement of the century.

: Though, what do you plan to do now?

: Ah, well... I suppose I could keep looking for my brother... But, I guess that can wait. So for now, I'll stick around here and help out!

: Hm. That's really nice, Marcia. I'm sure the people will like to have you.

: I suppose it would be best if we went to find the others. It would be nice to stay, but we need to regroup.

: Yeah, Mia's right. We need to find everyone. That way we can get this Grandbell trouble over with.

: Well, I suppose you're right about that. I understand then. You two take care of yourselves.

: The same to you, Lady Linoan.

: Well, I can't really do anything right now. So I suppose it wouldn't hurt to stay here right now. I'd be in trouble if I tried to go out into the open world unarmed. I'd be a walking target!

: Well, I guess that's true. Heehee!

AUGH.

: Cruz? Weren't you planning on returning home?

: Well, I was, but... All of those battles made a lasting impression. I couldn't possibly leave everyone behind. I'll send word to my allies regarding my decision.

They won't care, they have Elena.

: I'm pleased to hear that, Cruz. Thank you.

: No, thank you, milady.

- - -

Yup. No battles to tactician.

: No, I'm not asking you to stay. It's just... when I found you unconscious on the plains... I had no idea we would be together for so long. You've helped us so much, and I'm sure you've learned all you can from us. You'll so just fine on your own. I have utmost faith you'll be a master tactician, Aranea. This is from someone who's seen you at work! Well then, take care of yourself, Aranea. I hope to see you again! And may God's protection be upon you!
