Adventures in a parallel universe; Episode 1

One re-run though Chapter 10 later...

Okay so Hector is in this one. Ha! Most, if not all of the text in this is exactly the same, since obviously there's no work been done on it. I'm just showing you the amusing coincidences.

Like this! What're you doing here?!

Osw- what?! That's not Oswin. Hector. You might need glasses.

Or is this just some sort of shared mass delusion? I don't know. Something's in the water in Ostia.

Hector. That's not your sprite. God dammit.

You are also not Hector.

Oh god dammit.

...Yeah. So what we have here is curious. Hector morphs into Raymond on the battlefield. Raymond's class in the game proper is Mercenary; and he starts with Swords C. The Lord!Hector class, meanwhile, seems to have been overwritten by ?Stray Thief? (no prizes for guessing which character with a magical portrait we recruit later.) which gets Axes C as a default. This results in...

Proto-Ike-Raymond-Hector-Milanor. Who whacks people with a broadsword (which is the Wolf Beil in disguise) while flinging hand axes. Curiously this puts Raymond at a little disadvantage over Hector, because there are mostly spear-users wandering around.

Matthew is Matthew. He's as unused as we left him.

Stray Thief-Mercenary Raymond-Hector morphs into a Hero in battle. Okay. Sure. Raymond promotes to a Hero during the course of the normal game. I genuinely have no idea what will happen when we get to that point and the game forces a Heaven's Seal down his throat.

Also of note; Raymond doesn't get much EXP from these (this is after the third kill). Stray Thief counts as promoted (you'll understand why when you find out who it replaces) so we're going to be stuck with a Lord with his base stats for quite a while until EXP ramps up, or the Arena (but jesus christ fighting promoted arena enemies with base Raymond doesn't sound fun.)

MK404, you are a Jeigan. Congrats.

Moving swiftly on. Being... technically... a thief, Raymond can steal. Might be a good way of EXPing him up? Maybe?

And if we trade him Matthew's lockpicks, he can do that too. Matthew is totally superfluous here! (and why aren't Thief Lords a thing?! They're mandatory to every map so you don't have to clutter up slots with thieves!)

Raymond morphs back into Hector to talk to people. This shapeshifting thing is really unnerving and it is really only going to get worse. Oh and the reason he has no weapons is becaaaaaause;

I wanted to see what happened if I Game Over'd. It's still a game over, but Raymond wears his real face to tell us that. Also he has a potty mouth. For shame.

And ranged weapons in the first chapter are as overpowered as they ever were.

Ingram does not revert to his prior persona. Interesting.

Yay.

Back to Hector. Again.

Still not Oswin! And then the chapter ends as Not-Oswin vows to chase after and protect Not-Hector. Not-Oswin becomes someone totally different, who is also Not Oswin, during gameplay too, but I'm leaving that one as a surprise until after Chapter 12.

I need a drink.
