Easy mode has become not so easy in these games, so how does the number one Pokemon still fare? Well, you're really past the parts of the game that Grass types don't like by the time you have access to this Pokemon, so it doesn't really matter. The loss of Razor Leaf crits does hurt, as does the lack of STAB (hey, guess who can't learn Sludge Bomb?) for a while and no Body Slam TM also sucks balls. But you have Headbutt, Growth and Solarbeam, so it's not all bad. And when you finally get Giga Drain, it's much appreciated. But yeah, with Psychic still fairly rampant and a Poison typing that really does nothing for it, it's a tough sell regardless. The Bulbasaur line has seen better days, but bringing it over from Gen 1 with all those sweet tools is a good idea. But starting from scratch in Gen 2 is gonna be a rough time. You can't even use the Toxic + Leech Seed combo anymore! Man, Gen 2 sucks...

Oh yeah, Bulbasaur itself is okay, with high Special stats and fine moves until it evolves. Sleep Powder is pretty cool early on and Vine Whip will last you until Razor Leaf. Its lower Attack is okay, but you won't get much to use it with compared to last gen. Its low Speed still sucks, but it allows you to be fairly tanky and work to Grass type's strengths. Since breeding is a big option to obtain this Pokemon from your fully evolved Gen 1 starter, then we can actually talk about Egg moves! And, uh, Petal Dance? Yeah, that's about it. Still a good move though. Did you know Totodile could learn Razor Wind as an Egg move and pass it to Bulbasaur? Uh, anyway, there's nothing too crazy about Bulbasaur, the fixed Gen 2 mechanics work against it in some cases, but it's still perfectly dependable in this strange new world.
