Egad. HUGE hiatus there. Like, unbelievably so.

The Epic of Gilgaluf - Chapter 6

Last time, I got a rock. This time, we'll use it to go to SPAAAAAAAACE!!! (/Portal)

Galuf certainly doesn't lack confidence, does he?

Well, screw you too. Thanks for the Rocket Punch spam, assholes. Galuf getting a self-targetted crit doesn't help matters apparently the only thing badass enough to kill Gilgaluf is Gilgaluf himself. Real great start here.

Other Deaths: 6

Thankfully, Death Claw, while it doesn't seem to paralyze them, at least reduces them to critical, which makes it a LOT easier to finish the things off.

Vs. Soul Cannon.
This one's just silly. (Please excuse the sound desyncs. I did this one like 6 months ago, and I'm not going back to try to fix this after finally coming back.)
: I am become DEATH! DESTROYER OF- wait a minute...
: ...A bell? Seriously?
: TARGET ACQUIRED. COMMENCING FIRING SEQUENCE...
: Uh-oh, gotta go.
: One of these days I'm gonna make him show me how he does that...

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: Diamond Bell
Other Deaths: 6

In we go.

Well, Gilgaluf gets a new shirt, it seems. A shiny one, at that.

New toy for the randomizer. Still no idea if I'll ever use it.

And a shiny shield to go with my shiny shirt.

Enchanted Fans make great batteries for someone with Control.

A quick Control on a Lamia, followed by a Phoenix Down when Enkidu gets wrecked by it, nets me this. It'll be a great source of damage for a while (like, until I get something that can actually Punch for this much consistently). And yes, Enkidu got Enticed immediately on revival.

Adding this to the randomizer. Getting a bit cluttered, but most of my stuff I can't get rid of because of that pesky "no selling unless I can buy them" rule.

See how YOU like it! (I'll probably refrain from this in the future, since it's EXPENSIVE. I reserve the right to make Lamias- or anything else that I can force to cast it- do it to themselves, though.)

Enkidu's low on MP after Soul Cannon and a bit of showing off. Nap time.

The Ghidra I fought at the end of this area had this as a death-counter; conveniently, I was Lvl 28 at the time. I tried to steal a Killer Bow, but it's not really worth going to THAT much trouble for a rare steal that isn't very useful. I won't be trying to find another Ghidra to steal one (especially since they're buyable in World 2). On a side note: I ended this fight pretty messed up, didn't I? Anyway, heading back to save my new spell before the boss (and Vampire a Hydra while I'm at it).

: What the hell's a clapperclaw, anyway?

: And what if I don't want to?
: Then we don't get to progress in the story.
: Didn't I strain the fourth wall enough in my run?
: Dammit, Mozart, get back here! And stop breaking the fourth wall, everyone!
:
: ...Let's just pretend that never happened, shall we?

Vs. ClapperclawArcheoaevis.
Lots of needles flying around here, since that was pretty much my best attack option after Phase 1.
: Puny, dull little knife? Meh. I'll just start casting.
: NEEEEEEEEEEEDLLLLLES!

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: Mage Masher
Other Deaths: 6
Needles Fired At Boss: 9000 (please refrain from memes)

And now that Archie's dead, this guy shoves us out of the way. Ignore Lenna's corpse being on display; I have not, and never will use her this run- she's only "in front" due to Cutscenes (a close relative of Plot).
: Well, that's rude.

After that, I steal Galuf's Golden Shield for Enkidu's use, since I don't know how to hack an absent member back into your party.

Lenna? Not only are you DEAD, but you are LEVEL ONE AND STARK NAKED. You don't even qualify as a speed bump anymore. To anyone involved, really.

Exdeath can't count. Lenna and Faris DON'T count, due to being both comically underlevelled and permanently dead.

: I coulda done that, kill-stealer.
: He's not dead, though...

: He goes by Gilgaluf these days, actually.

Why did it only occur to me just now to wonder how this guy knows your name?
: ...I don't remember introducing myself to you.

These are always redundant in this sort of run, but the one you're using especially so.

: Why would you want to put your city in the sky, anyway? I mean, what if you fall off?
: And what if your power source is exhausted? It'd fall just like this, right?

: Who are Lenna and Faris, and why am I not going too?
: I dunno who they are either, I'm just reading this script here. Anyway, there apparently isn't enough power for three people, or some technobabble thing like that. I blame Plot.
: ...Okay, why's the fourth wall missing all of a sudden? Was it that giant seven-month hiatus?
: Anyway, go ask Cid to help you follow me.

First thing's first though... REVENGE!!! (Also getting Jacky here in my bestiary, because why not.)
: For some reason, I find this therapeutic.

And a quick trip to the Library to pick up a spell I seem to have missed the first time by controlling Page 256 into teaching me, then needling everything into submission. (Yes, I'm using this time as a "go back and pick up what I missed" thing. Thankfully, I think I'm done now.)

Once again, taking a trip to North Mountain for Titan-cheesing before the next part. Hadn't realized Enkidu was so close to levelling, though... (He levelled off the cats at North Mountain, for the record.)

Might as well get the risky one out of the way first... (Incidentally, the Meteor bosses will be pretty much the only exceptions to this run's "randomized weapons" rule, since Galuf is absent. The only other one I have in mind is Omniscient, assuming I make it that far before losing interest again.)

Vs. Purabolos (times six).
Gotta admit, I was worried when the first one dropped. It went pretty much perfectly under the circumstances, though.

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: None; Galuf absent
Other Deaths: 6
"Oh Shit" Moments: 4 (the first kill, after killing the others, and both Aqua Breaths afterwards)

Next!

Vs. Titan.
Gotta say, it was hard convincing Enkidu to get the rare steal instead of a Potion.
: I've got no use for this, but yoink anyway!

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: None; Galuf absent
Other Deaths: 6
Retries For Rare Steal: 19

And now I can summon the musclehead whenever the mood strikes me.

While I'm in the desert area, I decide to steal this thing from the local bears. +1 Strength and 52 Attack, on a spear? Yes please. (Incidentally, Sand Bears are the only source of these in the game, as their rare steal. They don't have a common one.)

Time to finish World 1.

Vs. Manticore.
It kind of slipped my mind that Death Claw would work on this guy, so it lasted longer than it should've.

Boss Deaths: 0
Total Boss Deaths: 4
Weapons Used On Boss: None (sort of); Galuf absent
Other Deaths: 6
Wasted Turns: 4 (I'm not counting the first Romeo's Ballad)

: ...I can't read maps.
: Look for the dragon-shaped peninsula.

I think I've kept you guys (those of you who haven't given up on Gilgaluf, at least) waiting WAY too long, and this is getting a bit drawn-out, so I'll leave off here. It's a good stopping point anyway.

Current weapon list: Knife, Mage Masher, Main Gauche, Kunai, Coral Sword, Ancient Sword, Trident, Javelin, Ogre Killer, Death Sickle, Gaia Hammer, Ashura, Flame Rod, Frost Rod, Thunder Rod, Healing Staff, Flail, Flame Bow, Frost Bow, Thunder Bow, Dark Bow, Silver Harp, Blitz Whip, Diamond Bell, Moonring Blade
Current weapon total: 25

Next time: World 2, part 1! (FINALLY!)
