Synopsis Quest - Part One

This game's different from the others I've played so far in that this one is, well, good.

Basically, there are 25 micro-games that replicate the experience of playing a jRPG. Lots of nice references to jRPG cliches and all that. Let's begin the first one!

ONE

First is a simple tutorial. When you finish a section, you get the "Clear" screen. When you fail, you get "Game Over" and have to redo it.

TWO

The goal here is to get a Hero class. The stats cycle through, and it's all about timing to get the right numbers.

The trick is that there's a range for each class, so you need high, but not too high, stats to get the Hero.

This game knows how to throw a variety of gameplay challenges to you, some of which are quite clever.

THREE

And some are just dickish, but hilariously so since restarting a quest is trivial.

The trick is to walk around the hole and enter the castle from the side. I love this game.

FOUR

Kinda hard to walk out when the king takes forever to give his stupid speech, right?

Not if you walk out while he's talking.

FIVE

In this one, we're a townsperson whose duty in life is to greet the Hero.

My laundry should dry quickly. By the way, there's a hero in this village...

Huh?

Talking to this woman triggers the Hero coming, but you've got to act fast. The trick here is to talk to her from the left, as you won't have time to catch him from the right side.

Good stuff.

SIX

In this one, we're looking for magic herbs.

Haha, of course that's not right! Think, where would you normally look for magic herbs?

Exactly.

SEVEN

This one's simple enough. Walk into enemies to kill them.

Just don't walk into the girl. Other than that, no tricks here.

EIGHT

Next, we need to escape.

Found the cell key!

Simple enough, right?

Which is why it's wrong! The correct answer?

Take the secret passage by the wall, of course!

NINE

We start with 4HP. Each step we take in the poison removes 1HP. Going to 0, of course, is Game Over.

So what is the optimal path back?

Pressing space to use our Traveler's Wings, of course!

TEN

Next, we need 600 gold, though these slimes only give 10 each. This one's a tad trickier, though if you've played enough RPGs, you may know the answer by now.

Why, let them combine into a larger enemy, of course!

And hey, he just happens to drop 600 gold!

ELEVEN

Next up, talking to the princess.

I look like a princess in this dress, huh?

Nope! Game Over for this one.

Really! No lie.

She's not the princess, either. So how are we going to talk to the princess?

Can you hear me, Oh Hero?

I have something important to tell you... ...Aah!!

And there we go. I'd say that will serve as a good cliffhanger for the rest of the adventure.

Next time, we'll finish Synopsis Quest!
