Update 21 ? Story Time

We come back and find Dean chatting up Christine.

[Christine studies Dean, frowns.]

Don't... uhh... don't talk much, do you?

[Christine shakes her head slowly.]

Anyhow, offscreen I hit enough levels to have 65 points in Medicine. Since I'm roaming around with copies of Today's Physician (you will find plenty of such things in garbage cans or whatever, Dead Money is pretty generous with the temporary bonus books) that's a temporary +10 and that means we can make Christine's Medicine check

I can't restore your voice, we'd need a real Auto-Doc to do that.

[She shivers slightly, and shakes her head.]

I don't understand why they shaved you bald.

Wait, the Auto-Doc didn't shave you bald?

[She waves her hand, then shakes her head ? then she nods in the direction of the casino.]

No, wait, I want to hear this. You were bald before?

[She puts both hands in front of her, then makes a motion with her hands as if writing something.]

How the hell did you get out here?

[She shrugs. Then she points to you and shrugs.]

Where were you before?

[She moves her finger in a wider circle, then raises her hands over her eyes.]

You were... looking for something?

You were looking for someone?

[She nods and raises a finger.]

Man?

An... angry, bearded... man.

[She points at your Pip-Boy.]

The man on the Pip-Boy holotape, Elijah.

Someone smart.

[She nods, then circles her ear.]

...and nuts.

[She nods, frowns.]

[Then she chops her hand down, and draws the two fingers apart. One of the finger she points at herself.]

He cut you off from someone.

[She nods.]

Family? Husband?

What, your wife?

[She shakes her head, but rolls it side to side.]

Oh ? girlfriend.

[She hesitates, then waves her hand.]

You were more than girlfriends ? lovers.

Give me a little credit.

[She raises an eyebrow, looks at you.]

I understand how important a loved one can be.

[She nods slowly, studying you. She seems to be gauging you again.]

So yeah, Christine was Veronica's girlfriend before Elijah went totally crazy. Christine hunted him across the best DLC and ended up here, still chasing him. Neat!

BUT! There is another medicine check I couldn't do before! Still to come.

This nodding, frowning, pointing thing you do is wearing me out.

[She keeps the blank face for a second, then slowly blinks, looks around. She looks at her hands, shakes them, then lets them go limp.]

You can still do numbers and calculations.

[She nods.]

It seems I'm missing something saying so, but as it happens, Christine cannot write words to communicate with us either so that's out ? but she is still capable of doing mathematical calculations. Hooray, Courier doesn't need to use Pip-Boy Mathematica!!!

Anyways, since we have exhausted her options for now we will do her quest next.

Guess what's gonna be on her path guys!!!

Also I hand her the holo-rifle with the two upgrades we have so far so she can kill shit with it.

This message is accompanied by a small burst of static as an audio cue as well.

The graffiti continues to warn you about things like speakers as well.

We end up on some rooftops.

Collecting three of the Electric Box Fuses is one way to get her where she needs to go but we won't need it. One of them is here though.

Fuck you radio

Quick dash in, over to the right...

Grab the fairly well stocked first aid box. Nothing else in this area but there is plenty of Cloud to make it miserable if you try to look.

We know all of what Christine is mutely doing even if we are not looking at her. Immersion!

Ghost Seekers all throwin' bombs at us.

Oh come on what the FUCK

Thank you Elijah. You are still a prick.

Up these stairs...

Pipes! A good sign.

Ahah!

(Christine has some 100% understandable claustrophobia now)

Right here you are roadblocked until you have a Repair of 60+ or three of the fuses I mentioned earlier.

Repair is useful though so you should really be able to do that by the time you are here. Repair things all day erryday.

We can learn some things here too.

speeeaaaakeeeerrrrsssssss

Weeeeee're going through there aren't we

no christine I was totally going to just amble on here, take some deep breaths and enjoy that wonderful COPPER OR OLD WORLD GOLD character

Well, okay. That's helpf-

GAH FUCK

Whew. Made it.

Okaaay just a shielded speaker. Gotta find where to turn it off, that's all. (It's that little booth you can see on the far wall)

Okaaayy... aaaand GO

LEFT

RIGHT

IN

DON'T KILL YOURSELF ON THE GRENADE TRAP

OH GOD DON'T FUCK UP THE HACK

WHEW

Oh hey. Niiiice.

Uhmmm. Okay. Let's see what it is.

Just some story stuff I guess. A little more indication that the only new thing about the Cloud is its size, whatever it's made of has been here from the beginning.

A little further along we find this terminal which clears out that big patch of Cloud we had to run through a while back. It'll be nice for returning.

This patch is pretty linear so there's not too much to say about it unfortunately. Following it along we find a locker bank.

One of them has a Hard lock and a terminal password in it.

Another has a little note and some cloud residue and stuff in it.

We're pretty close now but we have to make a quick run past a shielded speaker. There's a turret here too which I take out for convenience's sake. We want to get to that door on the far side of the room, for now.

It's got an Average lock and inside is a Very Easy computer that lets us turn off the shielded speakers (yaaaay) and has a little bit of info.

Shit.

Keep following the path, there's a key to the locker we picked a while back.

Geeeessh.

Anyways, we keep following and get to the end area.

I need you to go down to the manual bypass room to regulate the power.

[Christine glances at the elevator, her expression becomes worried, then she looks back at you, then reluctantly shakes her head.]

What's wrong?

[She gives a silent sigh of exhasperation, and frowns at the elevator, and her hand brushes the side of her face, tracing the scar.]

I have no idea what your problem is.

All right, let me see if I can find another way to do this without sending you down there.

[Christine smiles slightly in relief, and nods. She opens her mouth slightly, then closes it, frustrated.]

Yeah we can also lie and do it that way but seriously the nice way is so goddamn easy.

This terminal is right goddamn behind us and we have the password for it from Ennis' locker. It's not out of the way at all if you have 75+ lockpicking and it's only a tiny bit of backtracking after you get the key if you don't.

I've found a way to do the bypass from here. You should be able to just use the terminal over there.

Are you going to be okay here?

[She nods... then gestures at your hand, offers hers.]

<Take her hand.>

[She holds it, meeting your eyes intently for a few moments. She gives your hand a gentle squeeze, then releases it and smiles slightly.]

We'll get through this.

Another upgrade for the holorifle is nearby. I forgot to get it back from Christine so this is kinda pointless right now but a) we're not an energy weapons character and b) if I decide I want it I can just additem it

On the way back we can explore this room now ? this is the one that was full of Cloud and bear traps earlier. (It is still full of bear traps but we can see them easily now)

There's a lil ammo in one corner.

A previous unlucky jerk over in another.

Back outside. With a little planning you can get up here.

There's a terminal.

More indications that Dean's been fucking around here since Day 1.

Let's keep exploring the roofs.

Another terminal. This one is Very Hard.

(Activate Hologram activates a friendly Security Hologram who will be around and shoot any Ghost People it sees)

More backstory on yet another terminal.

Here's the hologram. He's pretty bored since there are no ghost people around for him to shoot.

Graffiti knows things.

Aha!

More story.

We can go in here now!

This terminal gives us a code for demolition charges. They are a type of mine.

Heading back to collect Dean for his part I got a nice picture of the sun through the Cloud.
