Update 25 ? The Ghosts of the Sierra Madre

Seriously Elijah, what a dick you are.

Floor's buzzing with emitter signatures. Watch out for Holograms.

Oh yay Holograms.

All doors are locked down, security's activated ? and emitter signals are lighting up all over this floor. I'll do what I can from here. Floor's got holographic security. Not latest tech, field of view targeting systems, primitive. Familiar.

Here we have one of my favorite little touches of the entire DLC, actually!

The security holograms on this floor? They're Vera holograms. The system recorded her last moments, so she wanders the hallway forever, pleading with Sinclair. It's creepy, and her voice actress sold the shit out of it. She gets a wonderful note of panic into the lines that makes the whole floor wonderful. The lines get repetitive, but you know what? She's one of the ghosts of the Sierra Madre. She's allowed.

Just fuckin great

Christine will also talk to you about what is going on on her end as you do this.

Oh ughhh.

Also this floor has one of my least favorite things going on ? radios that affect you through walls but are unreachable until you come around on the other side of the maze sort of area.

Anyway you wanna navigate the corridors until you get into this maintenance closet area.

There's a radio on top of these dryers.

This key will unlock the other door to this room which is a shortcut to the beginning of the area. It is necessary because we need to unlock something in there with a terminal in this room so it's just convenient.

Man you got no idea, whoever you are.

[IMG]http://lpix.org/1479751/NVLP_25_0040.jpg[/IMG

Unlock it though.

This terminal is optional but hack it anyway.

It has some handy things.

The super-heated variant of the Cosmic Knife has sliiiightly lower damage than the Clean variant, and a little over half the bonus limb damage, but has just over 4 times the critical hit chance.

Anyway, this door to the right of where we came into the level (previously sealed shut) is now open. Let's head on through.

This is where we come in ? we want to keep bearing forward and right from this perspective.

Eventually you come to the old security headquarters.

Here we can neutralize the threat of the Vera holograms so we can just walk by and be ignored while she futily pleads with Sinclair for all eternity.

You can also unlock the security closets in this room and get some stuff like ammo, armor, other supplies. It's not bad.

Now, follow things around, always going into unexplored areas. You will find this room eventually. DO NOT SHOOT THIS RADIO THE ROOM IS FULL OF GAS AND IT WILL EXPLODE

Dash in, turn it off, then go a bit further and turn off the gas. This will unlock the other hermetically sealed door. We now have another clear run to the entrance. We do not need to go back there (yet).

Just keep on going, find these double doors.

A little past them in a dead-end area you can find some metal armor for some reason, as well as a chance to turn off/shoot one of the radios that was fucking with you through walls.

Swanky.

A chance to restock if you want to.

The chemistry set can be used for or medicine, and there's a Big Book of Science on a shelf that should not be ignored unless you already have 100 Science.

Aha!

You sound like the woman in the Sierra Madre broadcast.

Do I? It sounds off to my ears... hard to tell. Not to mention it... hurts like hell to swallow.

Dean's 100% batshit idea pays off.

Now that your voice is back, what did you want to say?

I've been hunting the one who hijacked your Pip-Boy, Elijah, for... some time. He cannot leave the Sierra Madre alive. What he's done... what he's done here is nothing compared to what he's done in the past.

How long have you been hunting him?

Too long. Thought I might have had a chance to settle it before this event happened, but then the chance slipped away again.

"Settle it?" You're here to kill him.

Sounds personal.

Then he became unstable, left a trail of crimes across the wasteland. Once word reached us, I was ordered to kill him.

He said he knew you.

He saw me, before the scars, at a place far from here. It's where he found some of the technology he uses now.

Almost got trapped there. There was someone else, though, who came along. Knew about Elijah.

He knew Elijah? How?

Helped me heal up, listened to my story. He... sympathized.

Sympathized? Why?

He said he understood what it meant to track someone who had such a... impact on his past life.

You could have said something sooner.

Wasn't sure I could trust you. Now I know. Look, when I woke up here... however that happened... I had this key on me ? I think it belongs to her. Haven't had a chance to use it yet ? might open the dresser, or the safe ? didn't have time to experiment with it before you arrived. Here you go.

How did you get here from the Gala Event? And onto this floor?

Got outside, saw the light show, and it was enough to make me run to the casino. Also... it seemed like the lights and speakers were helping to guide me... guess your master wanted a back-up in case you died.

There's a chance he'll see reason.

Try and reason with him, see what happens. He's so lost in his technology, I don't think he even understands why anymore.

Does that Auto-Doc there work?

Anything you can download off of it?

I can see... check the root, recent diagnostics... Lot of Med-X was dispensed for... Vera Keyes. Guess that's her corpse there for certain... and why all those meds are scattered around in here.

I'm not even sure she knew, if these medical reports are enough. She must have been numb most of the time.

Can the Auto-Doc heal your scars?

No... they run a lot deeper than that. While I was hunting Elijah in the Big Empty, he trapped me in one of those medical research centers buried there.

...it just ends up ebing a mish-mash of symbols, not letters. Can still do math, formulas, equations... writing poetry's out.

You said you got off lucky?

Never going back... and Elijah was on his way here, so I couldn't stop to see if it was something I could fix... if you can even fix what happened to me when they jabbed the electrodes into my skull and turned my head into a flashlight.

Just glad you're safe. Hold up here, I'll take care of Elijah.

We can't tell her that it was Dean who did the bullshit vocal surgery apparently. Also it's near 100% confirmed now that her girlfriend was Veronica! And we can finally just have a normal conversation and hear about Elijah a bit, and some stuff about the Big Empty (which is a great place).

We can download the medical history off the auto-doc ourself too.

We can find an audio tape of Vera's audition for something in the dresser.

Clearly it's awful!

You can take Vera's surprisingly intact dress off of her skeletal corpse.

I like this graffiti so I took another screenshot. The game tries really hard to tell you things!

We unlock the door to the elevator with this terminal.

For now we cannot do anything in here except loot the safe for... another copy of Vera's dress, apparently.

This voice interface controls elevator access, but we can't do that yet.

We have to go back to the lobby, apparently! It's okay, we opened up a straight shot back to the area entrance, more or less, so it's not really a chore of any sort.

Last wave of Ghost People for the DLC!

We set things going with this terminal.

It's quite boring, you just... click the things under the Music Controls options. I turned on the holograms too just for fun.

Anyway. Back to the elevator area.

I found the phrase for the elevator's audio lock.

You did? Looks like even the Old World can't keep you out when you've got a mind to get in. So... I just rasp out some words, and the vault opens? That woman, the starlet... she didn't build this place, why would the builder do that?

This place... I'm not sure, it doesn't feel like a casino. Not entirely.

Guess it's the object of someone's obsession ? or affection.

Love makes people do strange things. Won't argue that. It can drive you crazy sometimes if you can't... connect. If they loved each other, and they were together... I suppose that's all that mattered.

I have no idea, let's unlock it. The phrase is contained in the lyrics to a song.

All right. If you go down there, are you prepared... what if you don't come back?

What does that mean?

The one who made these collars, he'll follow you down there. And he won't let you leave. He's not one for sharing, never was.

I... can't let him leave here. Look, you've done so much, and he's not going to show himself until you go down there.

Do you trust me? If you do, let go of this.

I can't let go. Every time I've thought about it...

Let him come through the suites, follow me. If he escapes, you'll still be here, waiting.

You have to promise me. Promise me you'll deal with him... if I see him, I...

Christine, please, let go of this. Let me deal with him.

Don't tell me where you're going ? I'll find you after this.

I... never mind. Let me get the vault open... "Begin again... but know when to let go." Sounds like you.

That's really the end of the story for Christine. As always, there's a backup, since it's possible to piss off Christine to the point that she won't (or can't!) help you ? you have the audio recordings to open the vault also.

Next time: The final gauntlet, and the final showdown!

(I kind of lied, there is one more update after that one but it's some loose ends/alternate endings stuff, more of a .5 update than a whole one)
