Mini-update 2: PCs,
Class Changing & Extras

--------------------------

Let's begin by discussing our current team from a gameplay point of view - as I have plenty of fun updating their character bios after every scenario update gets posted. So on Team PC... no, Team Piracy! we have Fighter, Hein, Scott, Rohga, Liana & Cherie. Now one thing in this game, that it does better than Fire Emblem - all your team is always deployable - in fact you are forced to place everyone - hence why my solo challenge still had Hein & Scott on the field.

First, a quick explanation of Class Changing, though I'm sure you're all familiar with the concept - here I go.

-Class Changing-
So what does Class Changing do? Well, it improves stats, grants new hired unit types, allows you to learn new spells, changes your command range and movement (usually increases, but there are exceptions), could change what type of equipment you can use, improves your aura bonuses (again there are exceptions), gives you another 10 levels before you class change again and generally makes your commander look cooler - not their portrait though, that remains the same.

Next, is a quick break-down of our current team roster with their class changing tree:

Fighter - The way you guys built him, he rips through enemies like a hot axe through butter. Currently, he's best used as a force breaker - he gets in, blows away some of the enemies and his men come in later to soften up whatever remains. This does mean that against commanders who can first strike like him, s, etc., that he needs his men to take the heat and whittle down such a foe before he can finish them off himself. Thus, if we continue to use this stratagem - perhaps consider letting him learn some spells, so that once the immediate threat is contained, he can swiftly rejoin the battle at full strength with heals. Or focus on just blowing enemies away, with higher mobility and cooler looking dudes. Here's his chart:

Just about any path you goons choose, Fighter will typically excel in. My only personally suggestion is that given you've built him as a solo combatant to then turn him into a Sage is not a great move since he ends up as a mage and a crappy one at that - Hein is just so much better at it. Unfortunately the downside is Fighter will stop being a Sailor - however, there are a few maps coming up where I plan to let our Mermaids shine, so fret not. Also, yes, you goons are choosing the path Fighter takes.

Hein - Our buddy who is also Mr Asker for tutorial purposes. Hein is our first mage and a real stalwart force once you get him going. I've been using him quite cautiously, since out of all our starting forces he is most quickly cut down against someone better then him. Even so, as he grows he'll learn a large variety of spells and in some classes, summons which will improve his versatility over time. You always want Hein aboard Team Piracy. Chart time!

Hein can fill most roles depending on how you class change him - the Mage line is for pure buffs, utility and damaging spells, the Priest line turns him into an effective healer and summoner but... Swordmaster is passable but not great for a guy that's been a caster the whole game.

Scott - If you didn't pick a Knight Fighter (heh, night fighter) then you will love Scott given his ability to trample a lot of our early game foes. Given that's all he can do, you want to quickly get him up to Lv 10, so he can gain some extra power or utility since soon, our enemies will supporting many more units that can take down cavalry quick smart. Still if you want to chunk dudes and move around the battlefield quickly, Scott is your man but master strategist he ain't. Looks so sad in his portrait, so here's his happy chart:

Scott builds similar to Fighter and if you want him to follow the same path as his father, Loren, you totally can! Scott is pretty adaptable and you can make a case for almost all his classes being viable. I prefer to keep him on the cavalry wrecking path as a dedicated line breaker, but he really can go any which way.

Rohga - Our Fighter-expy, Rohga can smash and destroy with the best of them. He fights and plays very similarly to how Fighter does but he's a tad less formidable due to him not getting sweet goon bonuses from the quiz. Still, gave this man a pair of Swift Shoes and a strong weapon and you've got yourself a wrecking ball. My only complaint is he tends to have boring units (Soldiers/Barbarians) since the focus is on himself. Chart!

Rohga's interesting in that his branches are really different from others since somehow being an Assassin then turns him into a High Lord(?) and then into a Ranger... But yeah, otherwise most paths are viable for Rohga, but for me personally seeing him as a Knight Master just feels... weird. That kinda class is for pretty boys like Scott, Laird & Leon, not RARGH Rohga - right?

Liana - So she's just joined our group but Liana is going to be immensely useful in future battles as our party's main source of healing (at this stage of the game). She starts off with Heal1 and can hire Soldiers and Monks. I don't know if you remember that gif from Scenario 2, but she also shoots holy light crosses as her attack which I think is pretty darn cool. Still, she shouldn't see much combat unless you are specifically feeding her kills though healing also increases EXP (but buffing doesn't, che). Here's the good Lady's chart:

No matter what you do, she's going to learn quite a few spells and a few summons, thus making a versatile healer/utility caster. She will never be as good as Hein at attack magic though, but that's okay as she'll make a better healer any day of the week. So really, her class changes boil down to do you want a dedicated healer or a healer who can do some other things. Personally, given her personality, I like to turn her into a Sword Master and chuck her at the enemy - she sucks but I find it immensely amusing.

Cherie - We didn't get to see much of her in action, but she fights similar to what Pimpmust has been describing his Hawk Knight hero - shitting feathers all on things. Given she's a flier, she has great tactical use but like my favourite class in Fire Emblem, Pegasus Knights (after Hector's Great Lord, mind) - she is super vulnerable if you leave her in the midst of an enemy army. Like all fliers, she has a slight edge against every unit type except ranged units though they can make that up with terrain advantage. Otherwise, she's pretty fun to play as and I'll enjoy doing so shortly. Here's her chart:

She can be a Unicorn Knight. A fucking Unicorn knight. What does that mean? She's a 'pure maiden' who rides a fucking Unicorn into battle. What the fuck!?

Bonus votes to anyone who draws fanart of Cherie and her Unicorn goring a hapless commander.

On a more serious note, I tend to keep her going on the flier path as that tactical advantage just can't be beat. Still... a Unicorn Knight

-Spoils of War addendum-

Let's recap from the end of Scenario 3.

So, as we all know Spoils of War earns us P for completing the scenario and killing enemy units. What you might not know is what those numbers (e.g +12/0P) on the right hand side of our commanders is all about. Basically, the game has a flaw in that it calculates 6 - number of troops lost, rather then what it should be which is number of troops hired - number of troops lost, and adds that to a running figure.

Each character gets one of these and when they manage to get 15 points, it becomes 00/+1P which means your commander gives off an extra +1 A bonus in their aura - this can go up to a maximum of +8A. So you want to either bring no troops (e.g. Fighter solo challenge) or keep your troops safe by utilizing your commander more. Also, if a commander dies you don't get any of those points for that scenario.

-Extras-

Scenario 2

Changing Liana's protector to Hein:

Don't worry, I'll protect her!

Thank you, Hein. I'm sure I'd only be a burden to Fighter.

I'm counting on you then, Hein!

Of course! I'll protect her with my life!

Changing Liana's protector to Scott:

Why not leave her to me, then?

I appreciate your kindness.

Please... take good care of her.

Fear not, I will ensure her safety!

If Liana escapes to the north:

I made it...

Well done! Estool is just a little further down this road!

Okay!

It's hopeless. I must withdraw...

I can't believe we've managed to elude the Imperial Army again.

If Liard kills Loren:

I am... done for-

Father! You can't fight any more in that condition! Please retire from the field.

Then I'll trust you to hold off the enemy... You must get Liana to safety!

Quick! After the girl!

If Hein is defeated:

If Scott is defeated:

If Rohga is defeated:

If Fighter is defeated:

Could not for the life of me get Laird to attack Liana and finish her off... so we'll just leave it there for Scenario 2 extras.

Scenario 3

After Turn 12:

Looks like I've become entangled in this battle, too. I'll protect one of the shrine's entrances. Please leave Lady Liana's protection to me.

Okay, thanks.

So, what should I do?

Protect the right entrance
Protect the left entrance
Stay where you are

Basically - go away, I'm trying to get Fighter killed by Liana here!

Can you protect the left entrance for us?

Not a problem.

When Liana attacks Fighter:

Well then, my teenage sweetie, I command you to kill that red-haired guy!

Also, he hates redheads... the real Morgan loves redheads along with all other hair colours. HAIRCOLOURIST!

Stop, Liana! Don't you recognise me!?

Mwa ha ha! It's useless! Why don't you just surrender!

Yeah, I tried but Liana just cannot kill Fighter - he is simply too strong for her and her men. So I do the next best thing and kill her with Fighter.

Wah ha ha! What a lovely turn of events! My sincere gratitude to you all! You just saved us a great deal of time!

Damn it! We should have taken out that guy first-!

And that concludes our extra scenes - I think there are some more but I'd probably need to cheat the get them... to kill my own men - POWER OVERWHELMING. No secret tiles in Scenario 3, as the Swift Shoes in Scenario 2 would be here if we hadn't gotten them already. Also, here's a bonus for Mehuyael since he is shooting for the stars:

Not quite a kraken but close - it's called a Leviathan. But it'll be quite a while till we see them properly in-game.

Voting Time! Fighter's 1st Class Change!

Here are your choices and what they give you - the game does a decent job of informing you what you get for each, so I'll let it do it's thing rather then at you more.

So choose is Fighter gonna be a Lord or a Silver Knight? 24 hours to vote and then we move on.
Also, I probably won't take votes for the other characters, but I will allow those in the thread to make suggestions for their next class change - if there seems to be a consensus, I'll flow with that otherwise, it'll be at my discretion.
