Scenario ?2 -
Care for a Quiz?

--------------------------

Having crossed the bridge, the Descendants of Light discovered a mysterious cave at the foot of the bridge. Curious what the cave may contain, the companions cautiously entered the mouldering interior. It was but a few steps before they came upon the programming staff, armed to the teeth and ready to grill them on their Masayan knowledge. Kanio, the master of ceremonies, offered the companions a special prize if they could answer all his questions correctly...

For some reason Rohga is back in the party...

As you can see we've equipped Liana with some heavier magical firepower and we re-equip Rohga so that he can handle business. Now let's take a gander at the map.

Let's try something a bit different and do a breakdown analysis of our foe.

Enemy Minions
Soldiers- 14
Lancers- 15
Pikes- 4
Harpies- 8
Ballista- 4

Enemy Commanders
Lords- 5
Hawk Lords - 2
High Lords - 3

As we can see, the our foe's right flank is quite weak with only generic commanders and some pikes who are easy fodder for most of our army. The left and center are the strong points for the enemy as they have their High Lord named commanders at key positions in those locations.

The key to this fight will be appropriate force distribution on the flanks - we'll send Keith, Lester & Hein on the right flank whilst Fighter, Liana, Rohga & Cherie will take the left flank. I will aim to level up the weaker members of the team up to their tier 3 classes but otherwise this should be a slaughter. Let's Sortie on out!

It is time for the Masayan Quiz. I'll be your quiz master, Kanio.
How are you enjoying Der Langrisser? After you are done playing, please fill out the questionnaire postcard.
Please include your impressions of this stage!

Firstly, if anyone knows who these 3 programmers are, please let me know in the thread. Second, you heard the man - we want postcard questionnaires at the end of this! Lastly, after this stage is over - give your honest impressions in thread so that I may compile them.

What in the world is babbling about? Weird guy...

We couldn't spend much time on this secret stage for some reason. There might be a few bugs because we built it too fast.
Well, anyway allow me to explain the rules. Challenge the units around this battlefield.
Before you enter battle, each commander will quiz you. If you get the question right, the battle will proceed as normal.
Make a mistake and the units will retreat. The winning condition is to defeat Uki.
If you answer every question right, we will give you a small gift.
Well everyone, do your best!

What? I guess we should just attack everyone...

Why do we have to fight? Also, why is Rohga here? Anyway, I think this will be a waste of our time...

I don't know why Rohga's here, let's just roll with it. I think it's a good opportunity to have fun and relax a little.

As long as we're here, it can't be helped. Let's go, everyone!

With that, the battle commences - no change in music. To begin, lets make hedgehogs (or echidnas, if you're Australian like me) out of their cavalry. Lester, move out!

If you get it wrong, this happens:

And all their troops die with them. Apparently, the answer was "Real anime, no SD-gimps" and I have no fucking clue what it's even talking about. I am going to freely admit to using save states for these questions since to me... they don't make any sense whatsoever. This is what happens when you get it right.

Once you get a commander's question correct, they don't ask you anymore and you are free to whale on them which I am now going to do with great prejudice. I attack the other commander to get it out of the way.

Question! Which floor in the KF Building is Masaya on?

It's the fourth floor, though given that it's been over a decade that probably isn't the case anymore.

That is correct! I trust we won't be receiving any ticking boxes from you...

Lester takes out another two Lancers and that's all from him. Time to push up with Fighter and co., protect Lester's elves and mete out some sweet punishment for these questions.

Liana summons Valkyrie up, I want her earning stacks of EXP this time and really, I should be feeding kills to everyone I can... except Rohga since I'm not sure he sticks around after this fight.

Turn 1 is done and we have pushed forward hard. Cherie should be able to connect and take out Kanio next turn or the turn after. Then we split up and take out rest of the Quizmaster Army.

So, some ineffective attacks from those Lords due to the Phalanxes crazy DF but look at this move by Kanio's men. Standing on the void, they are. Glitch or deliberate floor choice? Seems like we can also break through the center now.

Cherie moves in to strike.

I made a mistake...

Valkyrie picks off another Lancer and Lester causes death by a thousand arrows to the face.

He also knows his way around a Drake Sword. Keith follows up for his buddy.

Aaah...

Level up! AT+1

We move our forces into position and get ready for some major carnage next turn. That and some sweet quizzes. Turn 2 is complete. The enemy does nothing on their turn... time to take out MC Kanio. As it turns out, if you take him out you don't get the prize... boo! I just like killing everyone and everything Instead the Valkyrie kills more generics.

Here is a question! Who is the bearded man in the Super Famicom game "Hashiriya Damashii"?

Apparently it's "Varan" but... that makes little sense to me. Again, if anyone can clarify this for me, that'd be great.

Correct! Quite good, eh!?

Keith moves in and Hein summons Freyja as backup. Let's level some of our weaker units!

Here's our current situation at the end of Turn 3. Not bad but not great... we can't touch Kanio's men for now, so I'll have to be patient and wait for my time to strike him down. For now, we'll focus our quizzical and murderous intent upon the generics... the faceless masses. The enemy heals up on their turn but nothing much else happens.

Lester & Keith combine once again for maximum damage.

The Valkyrie charges in, so might as well take out a Harpy. Next question time.

All righty then, queeestion tiiime! Which of the cavalrymen on this stage is heavily armed?

Since neither of the two names appear on this map, this one is easily "That one over there!"

Correct...! There's a difference between normal cavalarymen and "Assault Suit Maniacs" like him. You are really something. Okay, time to finish it up with a super battle!

Level up! MP+1

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

The devastating combo continues on the right flank and inflicts maximum damage.

Aahhh...

Cherie's turn... though she isn't the best for answering questions...

Well then, another question! Where's Masaya's main office located?

Again, I have no idea... apparently it's on the game package... but that's in Japanese... the answer is "Nishishinjuku" which is in Tokyo according to Wikipedia.

Correct! Clearly you have mastered bathroom multitasking.

Is this a masturbation joke? Or just a poor pun?

Liana heals up Cherie's troops and that about wraps up Turn 4. Here's where we stand:

Now, we're getting close to answering all the quizzes... about 4 more to go. Turn 4 is completed.

Liana heals up that poor barbarian and Lester takes out the Harpies. Also, Hein helps with a Fireball.

Keith takes out a Pike for the glory of the quiz.

Here's a question! It's a music question. Name this tune!

The last doesn't exist and Requiem is main battle track for our team in this fight but what plays when he gives you the options is the Aniki theme as one might expect from the Masaya team.

Correct!

Nooooo!

A lot is going on this turn but next up is the Valkyrie.

And Cherie finishes up this turn for us.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Goood byeee!

We've got two generic commanders to go and then only named dudes after that. Let's prove our status as undisputed Quiz Masters of Der Langrisser. Turn 5's time has run out. Unsurprisingly, the enemy does nothing and we move on. Keith gets first dibs on the generic.

We then get Hein's Freyja to attack the last generic commander - the flighty Hawk Lord who kept retreating from us. Coward.

Here's a question! What does it mean to be a true "Aniki"?

So... this one is a trick question in that all the answers are correct. I personally believe a true Aniki knows how to pose even at the risk of his own life, as demonstrated by Scenario ?1. But others may disagree with me on that. What do you think a true "Aniki" is?

That's right... You're so good!

Keith & the Valkyrie finish off the Pike Lord and prep for taking on Uki next turn.

Gaaahhh!

Aside from Kanio, these are all that remains of the Quiz Army. It shan't be long now. Turn 6 fin.

Our forces suffer from a lot of ballista fire, they are priority targets for next turn. Cherie charges in.

Who am I?

... If you get this wrong... well... I don't know what to say to you.

Coooorrreectt! Bzzzt, attack mode on!

And for the last question, Valkyrie attacks another ballista.

What is my name?

Correct, kids. Now kids it's time for the Feats of Strength!

Keith follows up like a champ.

Level up!

I worry that Cherie's troopers will be killed by the Harpies next turn, so Freyja moves in to kill the Hawk Lord.

Eeeek!

Level up! MP+1, Heal2 was learned!

And that's Turn 7 finished... should be over next turn, we'll take out Akitahn and then Uki for the win. Still can't attack Kanio even though we've answered all the questions.

We actually suffer some attacks but nothing too serious. Pens will be down soon. Liana heals Cherie up and she then goes on the offense.

Hah!

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

She clearly got the bonus question right by sheer dumb luck. Freyja throws out a Heal2 for Cherie.

Lester & Keith follow up for the Lightning Round.

Now, all that's left is to kill Kanio and finish off Uki for the win. It seems counter-intuitive but it is what the game wants you to do. So Fighter gets to flex his killing muscle for once.

It seems you won't get the prize this time, kids!

Fuck. You. Kanio. Just die, you lying sack of shit. Thanks for the game, though. Hein Fireballs in on Kanio and Fighter follows up.

The Phalanxes take out two more Soldiers, leading us to wrap up Turn 8. There's not much to say as it's pretty obvious how it's all going to end here. Hopefully, Lester can snipe some more Soldiers before Fighter takes out Kanio.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Oops.

And Keith finishes off Uki after getting healed up by Freyja and a good ol' Fireballin' from Valkyrie.

Let's look at the results, kids. Congratulation! Since you got a perfect score, we'll give you this.

I don't know if this has any effect, as if we give it to him this occurs:

If we don't:

Ooooh...! So yummy, yummy. Uki loves bananas!

Regardless, we go to this dialogue:

So many correct answers... You guys have a great future ahead of you in trivia games!

Okay, then. Let's forget this and go...

Level up!

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Level up!

Level up! MP+1, Class Change!

Since Hein has already filled out our Priest slot, let's go for middle road territory with Liana and make her a Saint. You may remember that Saint was Imelda's class during the prologue and if so, good on you. Main reason for going Saint was the overlap but also, whilst she doesn't get Freyja or Heal2, she does get better stats and more variety in spells.

That's all for this bonus mission - it was weird and without a real point... I feel this should've been a bit later on in the campaign but hey, that's all the secret scenarios we'll see on this side of the Holy Light of Justice timeline. Next time, we meet up with the man who made the monster known as Cherie.
