Scenario 9 -
Should a Naval force
conduct Siege Warfare?

--------------------------

Having bested Kr?mer's regiment, Fighter and his companions raced onward across the bridge. However, in their delay, the fort down the road had come under attack by General Imelda of the Water Dragon Navy. With danger looming over the men and women of the fort, an old swordsman, Aaron, took, up arms to stand against the Imperials. Unsure how long Aaron could keep the enemy at bay, the companions engaged General Imelda and her division.

I give Lester the necklace, as his command range and low Mv on land is really hurting his ability to fully utilize his troops. Besides, he's tough enough as is for this point of the game. Let's look at the map for this time around.

And again, here is the plan in map form. Key strategic goals - secure Aaron and his stronghold ASAP with summons, secure the bridges and then CRUSH, SMASH & DESTROY the Water Dragon Navy.

I'll split up combat to two fronts - the south bridge and the east bridge until they combine together into the united CRUSH IMELDA front. Also, I'll be sure to show off what Aaron is or isn't doing as the case may be. Also, Aaron is a cheater - no Fighter should have Grenadiers! Still it makes him survive better so I should shut my cake hole on that. Let's get this over with and Sortie! Also, you should really click the music link - Imelda has a pretty great theme.

I don't care about fame! Those who ignore my orders shall die! If only you had listened the first time, I might have spared your miserable little lives!

I'll never take orders from you! Why don't you act more like a lady?

Once again, Aaron reinforces the gender norms we've come to love and hold dear throughout this LP. Clearly, he is Santa Claus and Imelda's the Grinch... of Gender Inequality.

Silence, you fool!

Holy moly, he survived somehow...

Kr?mer! You failed the mission, didn't you!?

I, I'm sorry, General Imelda, but...

Kr?mer! How dare you show your face after failing a mission!

General Imelda! Please give me another chance!

The Water Dragon Navy does not forgive failure!

I, Ime... Gahh...

Hmph! Useless trash! Hurry up and begin the attack! It will be quite annoying if their reinforcements come from Kalxath.

Yes, Sir!

Shit! That idiot, Kr?mer! (CC:42)

You're going to regret it if you don't move your troops away from that fort!

Quite a spirited young girl.

Princess, she is the Water Dragon Navy's General, Imelda.

Heh heh... Am I so well-known?

They still haven't taken the fortress! Let's hurry!

Don't even dare get in my way!

When Keith dares to get in her way by crossing the water...

What!? An ambush?

Keith moves up and well, just look at Lester's insane command range - 5! Plus all his mermaids get more survivability by getting an extra DF+3 from his aura bonus. Time to smash some wannabe pirate/lizardmen and prove who is the Pirate Captain in Fighter's Fleet.

Lester's mermaids don't quite have the range to commit all their manpower and so they form a line instead of getting counter-killed by a foolish attack. Cherie moves up towards the bridge and now we can focus on the rest of the team on the south side.

The summons get summoned and head straight for Aaron as per the battle plan. Fighter and his loyal cadre of mermaids start making waves in the water around the bridge - they will be utilized to eliminate the reinforcement threat in the east given their advantage on water and Fighter's skill in the healing arts. That was Turn 1.

Don't worry. Leave it to me.

Oh my! How could I ever lay a hand on such helpless people! If I ever killed them, how would I face myself?

Do you promise you won't attack them?

Yes, I promise!

Hey, another honourable general in the Empire! Sweet, since Vargas is a bit hot-headed and Egbert is... Egbert. It's nice to know Leon has someone he can relate to that is his equal and not his ruler. Since I feel bad for the guy since we're enemies this time around.

Fine... in that case...
Everyone, leave this fortress and evacuate to a safer place.

Yes.

Everyone, please run away.

Thank you, General Imelda.

Get out quickly! I'll kill you myself if you don't move fast enough!

Go! Take the stronghold and don't screw up!
Now is our chance, the enemy can't attack us amongst innocent villagers.

Or... maybe not.

Yes, Sir!

You... you cowards!

Wa ha ha! I'll do whatever it takes to win.
And as a bonus, I'll send you all to hell together, so you won't be lonely.
Quite generous, aren't I?

Imelda, you cowardly bitch! Even at my age, I won't lose to such gutless Imperials! (CC:43)

So... Aaron was hiding his true strength and gains a bunch of levels and class changes. Here's his chart:

I'm going to make him go Paladin -> Swordsman, since we don't have one of those and having another guy with Heal1 & Turn Undead is always fun. Plus he gets Bandits and Elves which are great fun. He is now a Lv 1 Swordsman. The Navy bastards attack the civvies.

Hey you, Imperial scum!

I love the crying animation for the Civilians... also Imelda - equal in all things, kills allies, foes and innocents, men, women and children! Truly, she has done herself proud as a paragon of equality.

How awful! How could anyone be so cruel?

Imelda is a cruel General. I've heard she'll do just about anything to win...

I'd say she a battle pragmatist - dead civilians now means less dead troops and a higher chance of winning the battle. Still she seems to enjoy it... so perhaps not doing this out of pure logic and reason.

What are you doing! Stop that immediately!

Ha ha ha! Where do you think you are? You're on the battlefield!
Here, only the strong survive... Weak fools have no right. You don't agree, redhead?

Strength is for protecting the weak! People like you have no right to speak of strength!

My, my... What a poetic little boy you are. However, I don't care about your silly beliefs.
I will crush you all!

Gotta say, Imelda is terrible but she is sardonic, sarcastic and as fuck.

You won't cross this bridge!

They do nothing but move up... should be easy for Lester and Keith to mop them up next turn, my summons to penetrate their lines to aid Aaron and for Fighter to kill something.

How heartless. I was foolish to believe someone like her.
Everyone, return to the stronghold - immediately!

Y, yes, Sir!

Hein starts the festivities on the south bridge.

Hein's crusaders take out another Pike and finally, it's Fighter time!

Quite a successful go of it, though I worry that the Mermaids will be smacked around by some of those Lancers up north. Valkyrie and Freyja go to cause some damage.

Back to the western front, we move Cherie just up to the bridge. Time for Lester to shine on the water like a magnificent and deadly jellyfish.

Keith moves up and we are ready to wrap up Turn 2. Need to heal up Lester but otherwise this is all good.

Inside the fortress! Quickly now!

Y, yes!

Aaron casts Protection1 on himself, so he can blockade the stronghold and the civvies retreat.

Attack if you dare, but you won't pass!

FUCKING AARON. Blockade the damn stronghold, don't let the enemy straight through! Also, the Silver Knight wastes a turn casting Attack1. Time to bring the pain for killing 2 civvies.

Liana heals Fighter up and he pushes further north to open up a bridgehead. Hein takes out the bridge Lord.

Level up! DF+1

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+2

Lester moves in to support Fighter, Hein then follows up with a Heal2, to get everyone back up to full HP. They'll need it. Also, you may wonder does the Heal2 animation differ from the Heal1? Short answer - yes. Long answer - gif.

Cherie moves in to strike and an interesting thing happens.

Prepare yourself!

And Keith unites the front, softens some more enemies and seals up our lines.

Ultimately, it's up to the summons to ease the squeeze on Aaron's stronghold.

Here's the state of play with the united front and Aaron's stronghold.

Turn 3 is a ghost of Christmas past. Let's see what kind of damage the Water Dragon Navy will inflict on us and Aaron next turn.

No one will enter this fortress! If you want to take it, you will have to deal with me first! While I yet draw breath, I will not move a single step!

When Aaron finally attacks...

I really do pity you, but you shall die!

Aaron did alright, I must say though he doesn't deal as much damage as I'd like.

Well... at least it wasn't a civvie that died... rest in peace, Gene. Keith shall avenge... err... kill some of the others outside the stronghold.

Cherie follows up, aiming to smash through the enemy cavalry now that are no longer buffed up.

Why? Why can't I win...?

Good question, my dear dead man. Fighter aims to take out Imelda's Elves before they get the jump on Keith. Cherie supports.

Hah! What impudence!

Lester cleans up Fighter's mess.

Level up! AT+1, Class Change!

I think sticking with the water focus for Lester will be more rewarding in the long run. Plus he gets upgraded Mermen and Elves - Nixies and Ballistas! Stats are actually pretty same-same for both classes with one point of difference between AT & DF. Angels are pretty great but I'll let Keith show them off in the near future. In other words, SERPENT KNIGHT! Lester now rides Nessie!

The rest of our forces move up and Valkyrie moves in to kill that bastard Lord who killed 2 civvies.

Here is what the damage looks like - so far only lost that one trooper but I expect to lose some more shortly. I just hope Aaron isn't a kill stealing SOB. Also, Imelda could do some serious damage if she fires off a spell. Turn 4 is over.

Yes, forgive me.

Just... FUCK. 2 Troopers, 3 Mermaids down and lost 2 more of Aaron's men. R.I.P. Clippy, Cloppy, Siren, Flippy II & Ariel. Gene2 and Gene3... not so much.

Fighter delivers some punishment and Hein heals us up. Keith & Lester follow up with a combo to smash the High Lord.

Gah! I've been injured...

Cherie strikes hard at Imelda's Grenadiers for justice and her master... the one who made him into the monster she is today.

Level up!

I don't want Cherie to lose 3 more troopers, so I set Freyja to task with Force Heal2. Valkyrie will follow up by attacking a Lord.

Level up! MP+1

And so after all that, here's the latest battlefield update:

Turn 5 is not longer alive. Yes, it is rhyming time.

Aaron does no damage and gets patched up by a Sister... they can be more then just civvies!

Huzzah for Freyja! Poor to Aaron's poor damage dealing... but that's my fault for making him more utility focused.

Don't get on my nerves! You still haven't killed that old fart!?
You're a totally useless bunch of imbeciles. If you don't hurry it up, I'll have your heads!

Also, to be fair to her men, a Navy really isn't suited towards siege warfare even if that stronghold is situated on a river. However, killing Floppy II was the last straw... she will burn by the edge of Gryffindor! I swear this upon Aaron's life!

Liana gains some more EXP by healing more people~ Keith & Cherie are going to smash that remaining Lord.

I try to kill the High Lord with Keith's but the bastard is utterly stoic.

Valkyrie moves in for the kill and Freyja follows up.

I don't want to die yet-!

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1, Sleep was learned!

Hein makes Imelda suck a magical barrage. Fighter softens her up further, so we can take out the remaining enemies before Fighter smashes her face.

Fighter heals up and we end the turn. We've pocketed Imelda, a High Lord and are poised to sink the Captain next turn. Turn 6 comes to an end. The enemy turn is uneventful and heals up. Keith starts up the carnage.

I honestly surprised by this... I thought the loss of the water tile would render that Lizardman to putty for Keith to smoosh... maybe his Faeries can do a better job.

Level up! AT+1

In an effort to feed Keith more kills, I move Cherie's trooper aside and decide to heck with it, let's kill that High Lord.

G, General Imelda!

Level up! AT+1, MP+1, Class Change!

And there she is, the beautiful Unicorn Knight - a very unique model as I don't think there are any aside from Cherie in the game. However, it was decided long ago that the Dragons shall rule the skies and so, it has come to pass. Though Unicorn Knight gets Heal1, 10 MV and better aura bonuses, Dragon Knights get an extra point of DF and goddamn Angels. Back to Keith now, the next in line for becoming a drake rider.

Such strength. But how...?

With some help from a now obsolete Trooper, Keith bags the entire set of enemies like a boss. Cue the Ride of the Valkyries cause it's time to finally save Aaron and remove the last invader from his fort.

Damn straight.

Ugh-! Some rest at last.

Master!

Oh, isn't that Cherie? So, your skill has improved?

Yes! This is a good occasion, Master. I could show you a few things now, I'd bet!

Hmmm, it's been a while since I've fought. I just exhausted myself. Let's rest for a while... zzz....

I gather up the secret tile whilst keep Imelda on low HP so she does no more than heal herself.

The bird is holding a small glittering stone in its beak. What will you do?
Startle it, Reach out, Ignore it

You wash the stone and it emits a mysterious glow. Obtained Rune Stone.

It. Is. Time.

Obtained War Hammer & Chainmail.

How can someone as strong and beautiful as me be defeated? I'm retreating!

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Are you alright, Master Swordsman?

zzz... *snort* What!? These old bones won't lose to some group of young whippersnappers upstarts.

Master! Are you all right?

Of course. I won't be beaten so easily.

Huh... So this old chap is Cherie's weapons teacher?

Well, it's been a while since you've visited, if I recall...

Truth is...

I already know. It's about the Empire... Lately, it seems as if they've been up to something.
All this is troubling me... By the way, seeing you battle made me realise how it's been since I've last fought...
Thank you for helping me out. It is very inspiring to see youngsters like you striking back against those Imperials...
I would like to return the help you gave. I am inviting myself to join your group!

By Lushiris, he's all and old... oh well, I'll deal.

That's reassuring.

Hey! We don't have time for a break. If we sit here, the Empire will take Langrisser before us.

What, Langrisser!? The Holy Blade...?

Yeah, that's the one. Anyway, we can talk about it as we walk. Let's go, everyone!

Aww, Lester is so non-chalant - yeah, we're getting the legendary sword no biggie

Impatient, aren't you?

Well, that's a wrap. Apparently, I didn't kill a unit of cavalry, I'm guessing that they were more reinforcements but I was too quick for them to appear. Oh well. Keith can class change next map. Otherwise, next time we aim to kill a great man who impedes our progress.
