Scenario 15
Reality, a harsh
and merciless bitch

--------------------------

Hundreds of years ago, the Descendants of Light stormed B?ser's lair in the forbidden lands of Velzeria... With B?ser's death, his attempt to summon an ancient evil came to a screeching halt - his dark god fading away into the horizon. As the companions landed in the forbidden lands, they were met at the shore by a swarm of monsters led by a young girl.

Some minor equipment changing - Hein gets the Orb for more summoning/healing MP and Gleipnir, which allows him to summon Fenrir which I'll be showing off ASAP. The shop is selling the Devil Axe, a really great item and I pop it on Fighter along with a Platemail to buff back up his DF. The BFFs Mv is going to suffer but it's a necessary trade-off.

Here's the map for this scenario, it's not too bad compared to last map's potential for clusterfucking and massed ballista barrages.

And here's another relatively straight forward plan - they will get much more convoluted soon enough, let me assure you.

Ha ha ha...! Running won't help. You can't escape. You shall release the seal of Alhazard!

...

The ritual is nearly prepared. And so then, my dear maiden, you'd best do as I say... or else.

These old bones aren't meant for the sea. So this is Velzeria, hmm? For a cursed land, it doesn't look so bad.

Let's land the ship!

I figured you would drop anchor here.

Is that L?na!?

Soon the ceremony to awaken Alhazard shall begin. We can't let them pass.

I know that! Kill all those who interfere.

This chick is really starting to piss me off! (CC:60)

But how does she have such a command of the dark arts...? It's strange - she's human just like us.

You're right. She's Liana's twin sister all right. Without Liana here, I can't tell them apart.

Egbert is an incredibly powerful wizard, but powerful enough for this...? Perhaps someone else is manipulating her...

Do your best not to injure L?na. Don't forget that she is still Liana's sister.
Her only kin is her enemy...

Hein, when you're on the battlefield, shit happens. Reality can be a harsh and merciless bitch, but we have to put stopping Alhazard before all else!
If we lose sight of that, we're at a disadvantage.(CC:62)

Sir Lester... I know how you feel. But let's try and do what we can for her!

I'm concerned about them too, so be careful when you engage L?na. Our team's not going to lose this one.
It might get ugly, but let's detain that "Dark Princess!"

Heh heh heh... You are planning to show mercy to me? Such a mistake will cost you all dearly.

I've decided where ever possible, to consolidate any turns that are just movement into one big TIMG'd image file to save time and try to reduce the amount of images posted as I now aim to keep it under 100 image count where possible.

Obliterate the Descendants of Light!

Leave it to us. We shall show the puny humans our power.

Stop it, L?na. B?ser is already dead, isn't he? Why are you following Egbert?

You're not my dad! Don't talk to me like an old friend, trash.
The breaker of the seal, Lord Egbert and he who wields Alhazard, Lord Bernhardt... They are very precious people to us.
Ha ha ha... In fact, they've agreed to release our god, Chaos... And Bernhardt has kindly replaced B?ser as master of our demonic forces.
Descendants of Light, here you meet your doom! This is the last place you will ever stand.

If you wield Alhazard, you too can become master of monsters. The more you know~ Finally, we can strike out with Lester. Fighter and Hein suffer greatly from not having Swift Shoes... they only move 1 sea tile per turn... argh!

You... Prepare to die!

Now that we're fighting our enemies, let's give the new enemies a once over.

First up, a new monster commander the Minotaur - they are monstrous Soldiers who usually come with Ogres and Ballistas or sometimes Werewolves, they are tanky commanders who can take a fair amount of punishment.

Next up is the Succubus or , who are Demon type but are basically flying casters who usually know at least Fireball and can have a variety of minions from Bats to Demons and in this case, Archdemons. Archdemons are basically beefed up Demons and again can take a lot of punishment - the Demon type is only weak to Monk type but are normal against all other types, hence I'm sending Hein straight for them.

Lastly, we have two other new minions - the Witches who are the equivalent of High Elves and are Bowmen with a pretty good AT. Then we have Gargoyles who are Fliers, which are more AT focused than Angels but have more DF then Griffins - kind of an in-betweener. Lester continues his landing party leaving an opening for Keith to support him as well as covering his flank.

When we attack 's Demon:

How dare a mortal oppose me!

Keith has done some major damage to the enemy line - I'm really starting to suspect Angels get a bonus against monster troops since they are just creaming everything that they go up against... Anyhoo, it's Cherie's turn to take out the Northern Phoenix - Moltres.

Let's go!

Scratch that last comment. Ouch.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, Fireball was learned!

The end of the combat sees Cherie's Angels in a somewhat precarious situation, if Moltres decides to be aggressive that could be three Angels down in one go. Lester & Keith are in a very good situation with minimal damage taken and a beautiful formation providing a quite decent wall and push off point for next turn.

Scott should be able to strike next turn and if he suffers some Ballista fire, Aaron's got him covered with Heal1. Anyway, Turn 2 is done and at this rate, we'll be invading Velzeria proper by Turn 5.

You really should have been stopped far earlier than this. I guess we haven't taken you seriously enough. But, no matter. This time we'll fight for real.

We're surprisingly tough... that Nixie on land, just ate a Meteor and still took no damage from Ballista fire. I'm making it a sub-objective to not lose any Dragoons this scenario. I feel I owe it to Scott.

In my efforts to keep Scott's Dragoons safe... I exposed him at 7HP - the enemy may take advantage of that... so I used Aaron's Bandits as literal bird chow and tried to block access to Scott as much as I could (read as: not at all). Keith comes down to support and here's where we see the advantage of fliers on such maps with a lot of difficult terrain - huge mobility and support potential. Still, I worry about the Southern Phoenix, Fawkes killing Scott but we'll see in time.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, Fireball was learned!

Just beautiful, Keith. Now Lester can strike hard at the Succubus's main force without worrying too much about any Archdemon counterstrike.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Lastly, Cherie moves to force another reincarnation cycle for Moltres.

Gahhh-! (Maybe, a nice trainer can catch me in the future...)

So as you can see, I've put the Bandits out of Aaron's aura as sitting ducks so that Scott doesn't get focused to death... whether the AI will fall for the bait remains to be seen. That Succubus will fall next turn and then all that's left is L?na. Turn 3 is finished and it looks likely that my Turn 5 completion guess might be spot on.

Son of a bitch! (CC:63)

Well, just fuck. Screw the sub-objective, I couldn't even save Scott or Lester. I feel terrible and feel like reloading but such is ways of Der Langrisser. A good lesson from this update - NEVER LEAVE A LOW HP COMMANDER IN AN ENEMY'S RANGE, either spell, ranged or straight up direct combat - though you can only gauge direct and indirect range. I'm just going to screw the Turn 5 thing and summon Fenrir for some goddamn Nordic chaos.

This is Fenrir - insane AT, some decent spells but is a ground-based unit. Fighter heals up Keith and gains a level. Cherie follows up on that Succubus.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1

Ugghh!

Now, it's a free for all frenzy. I'm gonna feed Fenrir a kill with that sweet Minotaur next turn though.

This happens 3 more times as we crush Fawkes' forces and take a shot at the big bird, itself.

Arrrghhh! (Why did they split the last book into two moviesss...)

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

That's shit dealt with. Goddamn this map. Goddamn L?na. Next turn, Cherie will smash you - then I'll move Hein towards the secret tile of this map.

Argh... witches can be utter bitches with their sniping abilities. RIP Angelus, may you enjoy eternal rest with Caim in Valhalla, the heaven of eternal combat. Our turn and I get Fenrir to cast Quick on Hein, so now he can land on the beach to grab that secret tile soon. I'll chip that Minotaur down for Fenrir and then smash every single one of L?na's minions that I possibly can.

When Cherie charges L?na's lines:

Impressive! You possess such motivation. Really, I would expect nothing less from the Descendants of Light. How sad that I must finish you!

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Turn 5 ends at this point with us only having to baby two commanders until Hein gets the secret tile, though Fenrir can probably kill that Minotaur next turn.

Turn 6 should be it unless Hein can't reach the secret tile. He can't... even with Fenrir's Quick - this scenario will go on for one more turn then! Let's soften up L?na so she stops dropping Meteors on Cherie's head.

Blargh, at this rate it'll be two more turns till Hein gets the tile. He's so friggin' slow without the Swift Shoes... still, Fenrir can strike now.

Let's just skip ahead 2 turns... whelp, nevermind I didn't think it'd be this easy after all... so, it turns out after Turn 8 L?na retreats, so instead of giving her the satisfaction of achieving her objective of stalling us, I opt to crush her.

Egbert has finished the preparations. Please return to the Temple of Darkness.

Yes, I understand. Until Alhazard is reborn, I cannot die...
I will live to witness the new age of darkness!

If she's not dead though, she says this instead:

Yes, I see. Alhazard's rebirth is very close now.
Finally, the age of darkness is nigh!

L?na retreats.

It seems the preparations for the ceremony are underway.

There's no time. We must attack now!
We must stop the ceremony and prevent Alhazard's awakening!

You won't interfere with the revival of Alhazard.
To create our world of darkness, we shall protect Kaiser Bernhardt and General Egbert!

It can't be helped. We must break through their lines.

Interesting... Then I'll share the pain of this old wound with you, boy!

Fwa ha ha. We will burn the Descendants of Light to ashes!

Mehuyael, here's some more Kraken - I know I gave you a taste before but here's the full course, there is an actual Kraken as a monster commander as well as the Leviathan minions. Also, J?rmungandr - both are Monster types, so Hein has an edge on them but we'll see how this all pans out. Turn 8 is over.

I have an old score to settle with you, Descendants of Light. Especially the redheaded one.

What score could you possibly have with us? We have never met.

Ha ha ha! You... really don't remember me?
I had hoped my face would haunt your nightmares for all eternity.
B?ser ordered me to massacre the Descendants of Light.
But when I finally hunted you down, this crumpled old fool got in my way...

An old...!
You... then it was you!
You are the one who murdered Doren!

Doren...
Hmm, Doren... Heh heh...
Oh yes, that was his name, I believe.
That little bastard dealt me a scratch that aches even this day. But he's dead and you will soon rejoin him.
Today, I will dance in your blood!

For years I wandered... asking myself what I would do if I found his murderer.
I will never forgive you. Prepare yourself!

Come and get me! Let's go, whelp!

Hisss!

G, gahh!

L?na's moving to complete the ceremony. Time's running out...

But where is the ceremony taking place? If we don't know, we can't do anything.

That's Jessica's job. I just kill stuff. We need to concentrate on breaking through.

Hein nabs that secret tile and preps to take on the J?rmungandr.

Will you eat it?
Are you kidding me? Of course. Hell no, it's a devil fruit!

MP raised by 4 points!

Cherie goes to crush a terrible Vampire Lord's minions, but I feel Fighter wants his head. So he's going to get it.

Heh heh heh... You flatter yourself! A mere human can't defeat those who channel the powers of darkness!

This happens 3 more times - can't quite kill the skeletons but Cherie knows how to inversely decimate them (9/10 instead of 1/10 destroyed).

Here's the situation as of the end of Turn 9. Still quite bitter about losing Lester and Scott, I'm going to rub Faias's face in it, if I must I'll resummon Fenrir and just spam Quick on Fighter over and over so he gets that head. Elsewhere, we're doing well - Hein is in position and Keith is continuing to trash these Krakens.

Heh heh heh... Hey there, my little redheaded punk. Come now, there's no need to be angry.
We have shared so many wonderful memories together! Remember Doren?
Remember him screaming like a little bitch bathed in his own blood?
I hope you will scream for me in the same way! (CC:64)

You son of a bitch... (CC:65)

Gwa ha ha ha! You despise me?
YoU wAnT tO kIlL mE? hAtE aNd AnGuIsH aRe My SoUrCe Of PoWeR!
Punk, let's see if you still remember what that old husk taught!

Fighter, don't give in to anger! If you fight with rage and pain in your heart, you'll be no better than him!

I know. Thanks, Cherie... Doren said that too. "No matter what happens, you mustn't lose sight of yourself..."

Fighter...

I'm all right, Cherie. Don't worry, okay? If I lose my head, I'll have no chance of winning.

Hmmm... You must be the leader, alright. You don't seem as stupid as the rest.

What! You won't be talking so highly of yourself for long!

I won't fail B?ser! I'll wipe the Descendants' bloodline from this world.

Just... sometimes, this game can and will mercilessly wreck you when you're feeling so comfortable. It's not quite FE's level of AI dickery but when you're used to the AI not attacking your full HP units, this can throw you for a loop. Bugger it all, I know this was bound to happen at some point if I got lax but still...

I found the Temple of Darkness, but I was forced to take the long route on my return.

You found it?

Yes. It lies shortly north of here. The awakening ritual is already underway.

Jessica! It seems the preparations for the ceremony are over. L?na has apparently gone to the Temple of Darkness...

Fighter, let's hurry! We must stop Alhazard's revival!

Fighter will get vengeance for Hein, Faias's head and Cherie can destroy those Skeletons. Keith & Aaron can kill the rest of these monsters.

Level up! AT+2, DF+1

Gaahh-!

Level up! AT+2, DF+1

That's all for Turn 10. My spirit escapes me and a frothing berserker rage takes its place.

KILL

EVERY

SINGLE

Gahhh-!

FUCKING

THING!

Aaaahhh!

Fighter and I don't care anymore, just unmake that vampire in as violent a manner as possible and be done with it, Cherie! Be sure to keep the head though.

Die monster! You don't belong in this world!

Powerful indeed... But even with that level of skill, opposing Bernhardt is suicide! A horrible death awaits you in Velzeria... If Alhazard is revived, summoning those with my power is simple. Though you've beaten me, raising a sword to Bernhardt is equal to asking for death. See you in hell! Fwa ha ha ha... Gwa ha!

By my own hand, I've avenged you... I hope you can finally rest in peace, Doren...

It's finally over, thank Lushiris! My rage dissipates into the wind from whence it came. I shan't repeat such mistakes ever again - I swear this upon the skull of Doren, that I keep in my knapsack.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, Class Change!

So here's one last thing about class changing - there's a secret tier 5 class that is a straight change up, there's no choice in the matter. In this case, Fighter went from a General to a King and just gets 10 more levels of stat gains and a better aura. He is the King of the Pirates now, no questions about it. Most characters only have one or two secret tier 5 classes, hence most guides preferred builds tend to head towards those classes - for example, Hein's current build won't get him a tier 5 class, he'll max out at Lv 10 High Priest. Now, Fighter has the most number of tier 5 classes as 3/4 of his tier 4 choices will get them.

He was slain because I was a Descendant of Light... Doren gave his life in exchange for mine... Everyone close to me dies... I... I cannot protect anyone.

That's... that's my bad Fighter. I let you down, but you'll see - it'll all turn around next time.

Fighter...

Fighter... You were destined to be born a Descendant of Light. But the reason your allies fight beside you isn't because of your heritage. It's because we believe in you. What brought you this far wasn't just that... It's not just because you are a Descendant of Light, it's your personality and the choices you've made.

Yes... It's still not too late. We'll combine all our strength, prevent Alhazard's revival and protect this world!

Let's hurry, Fighter. If Alhazard's power is restored, it will be too much for us to handle.

Let's hurry. The ceremony to unseal Alhazard has begun. Let's go to the Temple of Darkness and defeat Egbert!

Just a note: Dead teammates are not dead permanently, they'll be back next scenario but they gain no extra xp at the end of the current map and also, get no spoils of war bonuses. Next map, I'll make it a condition that I must keep everyone alive as well as all of Scott's Dragoons. Fighter, of course, can't die since his demise is always a Lose Condition. Otherwise, that's all for this scenario but let's have a quick look at what would have happened if we let the timer run out.

After Turn 18:

The ceremony is almost done. Let's retreat! Weaklings, you shall entertain me! Finally, the age of darkness has begun! Gwa ha ha ha...

Ahh! This feeling of dread... Alhazard's seal has been broken!

Wh, what does this mean!? We couldn't stop the Dark Blade's revival!

Thank goodness that didn't happen. So next time, the mirror world update and then, get used to the Scenario 16 map as you'll be seeing it MANY TIMES regardless of what path we're following. It's time to bust some Imperial skulls and to put a stop to all this Alhazard nonsense.
