Scenario 16
Breaking Magical
Enchantments 101

--------------------------

Within the heart of the evil Castle Velzeria, a dark and unholy ritual was already underway. Magic energy reverberated throughout the castle walls - gathered by the booming chants of a dark mage. As the chanting grew louder, the Glory of Darkness glowed brightly and the reverberations grew to a thundering roar. Once again, the companions were a step too late as the seal of darkness began to unravel once more...

Self-Imposed Victory Conditions: Don't let any commander perish and keep all of Scott's Dragoons alive.

So, there's a new item for sale - the Long Bow, which no-one can equip (Rohga could have) which enable the commander to attack at range at the cost of AT & MV. Fighter gets Langrisser and the Swift Shoes back, Hein also returns to his previous equipment and ditto for Cherie. To enable Scott's troops to survive, I slap the Necklace on him for the D+3 bonus it gives. Here's the map, you'll be seeing this one a few more times:

This is it, time to disrupt a ceremony with a relatively simple plan. Lester will snipe away those ranged units and then slowly make his way up behind our main body of frontliners though, in reality he'll be left behind to siege any enemy reinforcements. Everyone else will force their way up, with great efforts being taken to ensure that Scott and his men remain safe... an ideal strategy is to push in with a softener (Cherie/Keith) and then finish with Scott. Another good idea is to charge with Scott, then block access to his unit with someone else. In any case, Fighter will take out Egbert and ideally, save Liana. Let us Sortie!

Video: Pre-Scenario 16 - If you watch this, skip to the next italicized section

The preparations are complete... Now let's commence with Alhazard's revival!

Egbert, stop!

Hmmm... You've managed to sniff us out.

You must know how dangerous Alhazard is!

Power is a matter of preference. Using Alhazard is no different than abusing the power of light...
Now, watch the unveiling of a truly magnificent force.

Look at the altar!

Ahhh! It's Lady Liana and L?na!

The Maiden of Light and the Maiden of Darkness...

The Maiden of Light sealed the Dark Blade... At least that's my take on it.

Then what's the Dark Princess's role?

It's her duty to break the seal and become one with darkness.

If we're careless, the ceremony will be completed.

That's right. Before the seal is broken, we must defeat Egbert! Get ready, everyone!

Here we go. Lester will strike out like a cobra commander!

Obtained Orb.

Let's go!

So, we've smashed through an enemy mage unit and secured our western forces from a ranged assault. However, Lester is basically guaranteed to lose 2 Ballista here. But to be fair this is an acceptable trade off since Scott remains safe, their forces are pushed up ready for Scott to take them out. We move on to the eastern side.

We move up, blockade with Fighter and hope Cherie doesn't get blasted too hard by those ranged units. As for Turn 1, it's over.

I must concentrate to complete the ritual. Until it's complete, don't allow them near the altar!

Yes, leave it to us...

Hmph. That's all you've got?

Surprisingly, Lester's ballista both survive and deal some sweet damage - they have 24DF, the same as a Grenadier's base stats. Fighter's men take a tiny hit from that Fireball and some ranged fire.

Hein goes on the offence.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Level up! DF+1

Beautiful work, western forces! I need to bring Scott up so he can deal some damage - I don't want to achieve the sub-objective by playing keep-away... that's not my or Fighter's style. Hein helps out the east side and then we move on to their shenanigans.

Aaron heals us up and Cherie throws out her own fireball. Take a look at the aftermath of two Fireballs against ranged units:

Basically, we've taken care of most of the initial forces... Hein & Cherie should be able to combine and kill the rest of the annoying ranged forces. I'll leave the destruction of their remnants to Scott. Turn 2 is over.

Egbert! Even with B?ser defeated, Alhazard's unbridled power is too dangerous.
You know the horrors that darkness will bring! Why are you doing this!?

Hmmm... Such sentimental babble...
To achieve my purpose, I will do anything that can guarantee our success!

You've changed, Egbert... You've become so wretched...

Due to the massive causalities inflicted on the enemy last turn, they do nothing by try to recover and rally their forces. Easy pickings for next turn. Let's start by finishing off the western side. Cherie & Hein fireball out.

Here's what their forces look like now. Let's rush through killing the rest of the initial forces.

Egbert...

Level up! MP+1

Egbert... I'm sorry...

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

That's it for Turn 3, we move up and get ready to charge in over the next two turns. Again, nothing happens on their turn - but when we move over an invisible line...

Hear me, oh slumbering Chaos! Vanquish the intruding light, unbind the evil centuries old...
And bring forth the power that once was!

The screen flashes white 3 times...

Stop, the seal is...!

The screen flashes once more.

Cough... cough... wheeze...
Th, this is... The Demon's Might, Alhazard...

Egbert! What are you doing!

Damn it! He's taken it. (CC:68)

I will deliver this sword to His Majesty. Don't let them leave here alive!

Understood...

Egbert now has Alhazard equipped, hence his ridiculous AT for a mage. Fighter moves up and Keith goes in for the kill.

Things are going by faster then I expected... Much faster. Scott will probably reach the ranged units in the middle in 2-3 turns, so that's my timeframe for taking care of the rest of Egbert's forces. Gotta save Liana in an efficient manner after all.

The ritual is complete. Alhazard's seal has broken. All that remains is to present it to His Majesty.

Stop, Egbert! If Bernhardt uses Alhazard's power, he will become host to B?ser!

In the case of an ordinary person, that may be true. But you still can't imagine the true strength of His Majesty.
His steely will can repel even Darkness. I'm certain His Majesty will be able to master Alhazard's power.
Ha ha ha! You have my sincere apologies. Farewell, Adviser to the Descendants of Light.
Everyone! Slaughter the Descendants of Light!

Yes, Sir!

Aaahh! He ran away!

We have to hurry up and follow him... But first, we must rescue Liana and L?na!
Quickly, clear out the enemy! Let's go!

Come! My magic will have you writhing in agony! Let's go.

Die!

Hein charges in and the Elves go in to finish off the western mage.

Power... I need more power...

Fighter follows up since we're on a roll.

And Cherie finishes off the mage's remaining troops and herself.

Argh!

Keith goes for the last standing full strength enemy unit which guards the entrance to the ritual chamber. Take him out Keith!

Well, you breached the entrance Keith though I understand getting through those Phalanxes is like breaking through a brick wall. Cherie will head for the secret tile next turn and hopefully Scott will score some sweet kills soon.

Hein fireballs the entranceway and Fighter & Keith move in.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

No good... I can't hold out anymore...

Hail to the King, baby. End this turn and then all that's left is to leave it to good ol' Scott. Jessica makes an excellent decoy after all.

Aaron heals up Jessica and gets a level for it. Otherwise, we skip ahead another turn so that Scott can go in for the kill and Cherie can get the secret tile. Jessica takes another minor recoverable hit but even so not much changes.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Turns out I was wrong and moved Cherie to the wrong fountain of blood, so Keith goes to make up for my error. Now, Scott engages the enemy.

You think you can take me? Interesting. Go ahead and try!

Aaron heals us all up and that's it for Turn 8. Let's nab that secret tile and finish this one off. Okay, nevermind - I spent the better part of 10 turns combing this stinking map for the secret tile and it appears to not exist. I looked up some guides, results were inconclusive... my theory is since I got Gleipnir in Scenario 14 and that's one of the items available here... they are mutually exclusive. Very frustrating... so let's let Scott finish this off.

Obtained Orb.

Damn! (CC:69)

Level up! MP+1

Yes, Liana gets a level up despite being an NPC and is now a Lv 9 Saint as she should be.

Video: Post-Scenario 16 Skip down to Aaron saying "Everyone, be strong." The video cuts off a little early but only misses 2 lines of dialogue.

We managed to save L?na and Liana... But we let him revive Alhazard...

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1, Class Change!

We're going Sage with Liana (more interesting spells and still counts as holy - plus, Hein is a better mage) and yes, this is hella weird interrupting conversation for Level Ups but I think this is the game giving us back control of Liana as well... Still a bit jarring though.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Level up! MP+1, Earthquake was learned!

Hmmm.

You've come to, Liana! And you look stronger then last we met!

Aahh... Fighter!

Thank goodness, she's okay...

Liana joins the entourage!

L?na looks fine too.

I, I was...

Egbert's spell has been broken.

Sister! Big sister L?na!

Liana? Is that really you, Liana?

L?na, I thought I would never see you again...

Huh? I never knew Lady Liana had a sister.

Speaking of which, why am I here?

You were controlled by B?ser. After B?ser was killed, Egbert used his magic on you.

B?ser... When I was young, I was separated from Liana and kidnapped by B?ser.
Uggh! My head... What happened to Alhazard?

Then let's hurry on to Velzeria!

No! First we must revive Langrisser. Only the Sword of Light can challenge Alhazard now.
Langrisser's true power is yet to be seen.

Egbert took it... But I have no idea where he is.

It's okay. If I sense Alhazard's energy wave, I can guide us to its position.

...

It seems Kaiser Bernhardt is in Velzeria. From there, I can sense a strong evil...

Underneath Castle Velzeria, I've heard the God of Chaos sleeps.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out Alhazard was taken there.

What? You mean it can be even more powerful?

Wow...

Correct... To break the seal we need the Holy Rod from the Ruins of Elrad.

While I was controlled, I hurt many innocent people. Please let me help you...
Please, at least let me do that much...

Don't worry, no one is blaming you.

Thank you.

L?na joins the entourage!

She turns back into a Lv 10 Sister and gains a whole bunch of levels.

Level up! Class Change!

I'm going to go for a mixed offensive caster/healer with L?na, since Hein needs some backup. Sorcerer -> Mage -> High Priest.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1, Decrease was learned!

And that's all from L?na - we have another High Priest now! We can now Double Dragon the shit outta our foes!

All right, first we must retrieve the Holy Rod.

Well, I'll leave it to you youngsters. This fighting is too much for me...

You're going back? You'll be sorely missed.

Master Aaron, please leave it to us. Take a well-deserved rest.

Everyone, be strong. Fighter, take care of the Princess!

In case you've noticed that I haven't been feeding Aaron kills, we were locked to this situation occurring once the thread decided to kill B?ser. In the mirror world, you get given a choice regarding this as you'll find out later.

Smell ya later, gramps! Take care, Aaron.

No extras for this scenario since there's no time limit and we can't choose to attack Liana or L?na... so that's a wrap then! It was actually quite easy even with the extra sub-objective... oh well, next time, we'll see a familiar face and attack a sanctuary in the name of Lushiris, to claim another sweet rod for ourselves.
