Scenario 19
Sonya, a bell tolls for thee

--------------------------

Sonya, a demi-human tainted with boundless hate, decided to call forth Chaos on her own. With Chaos entering this plane and all existence in jeopardy, the companions set aside the Kaiser and his ambitions. To stop Sonya, the companions descended into the lowest levels of the forbidden Castle Velzeria...

Just before we start the actual mission, there's some off-screen grinding, mostly of the previous mission since the enemies will kill Sonya and end the mission early. So, this means I don't have to worry about everyone dying due to my attempts to grind up Cherie to at least Ranger, which is the class before High Master. Here's what the Rune Stone does - sends you back to your first class change at the start of the mission, with the same stats, spells and unit choices but with the command range and aura bonus of the class (plus the end of mission bonus remains the same).

Cherie went Hawk Knight -> Swordsman -> Ranger.

Some equipment changes - new item for sale, the Inferno Lance which is a straight AT upgrade over the Long Sword. Only Scott, Lester & Keith can equip it. Cherie's new class can equip the Long Bow as well, so now she can attack at range. Also, her stats are utterly ridiculous thanks to the Rune Stone grinding - I'll do my best to not abuse her. Still imagine Fighter having gone through his three tier 5 classes... he probably would have maxed out stats. Let's look at the map.

Our forces actually start off scattered into three groups, the southern 4, the western 2 and the eastern 2. Still the enemy is also appropriately scattered, so the real problem is that central unit of Witches as they can be quite large thorns if I let them run around unchecked. Here's the basic plan for the map:

As usual, I try to keep the game plan simple with most commanders having an assigned target for the opening then moving on upwards to Sonya, with Hein acting as support for whatever situations arise that require him. One thing I'll note, is that Cherie's new class, Ranger, much like Rohga has a command range of 0 naturally, so with a Necklace she has a CR of 1 and thus, I should only give her a maximum of 4 units to command since a CR of 1 means that only the squares adjacent to her are granting aura bonuses.

Anyhoo, that's enough preamble, let's get to stopping an Elder Chaos God summoning, let's Sortie out!

N, nothing... Why, why hasn't Chaos answered my prayer! It probably has to do with this disgusting human blood flowing in my veins!

Argh! I won't give up until Chaos returns and brings death to this unfair world!

Our God would never never answer a vile being with human taint such as you!

Damn it all! Why, why did Father have to choose a human as my mother!?
The word "human" seems to haunt my whole life! (CC:78)

Damn! It's those humans! (CC:79)

Sonya, when you summon Chaos, what do you plan to do?

Shut up, you wretched bitch! You betrayed B?ser for your worthless human friends! (CC:80)

That's not true! B?ser was controlling her with a spell.
Once B?ser was slain, the spell was lifted and she regained her true self. She betrayed no one.

Either way, it's the same result! I'll avenge the Prince of Darkness!

Calm down, Sonya. We don't have to fight like this.
We are trying to rid El Sallia of wars, for the sake of peace! You can come with us!

You have no right to call me by name, you scheming human.
Your so-called peace has no place for the Demon Tribe, much less half-breeds like me!

Sonya... we will... assist you in killing the humans.

Humans, Demons... No one wants me. A life of pain and death is all I will ever have.

Sonya... must you fight!? If not for yourself, stop for Rohga. He loved you!
Damn, it's useless! This leaves a bitter taste in my heart... (CC:81)

So here we go, the final stretch starts now. Let's start with Cherie and show off her new stats - 62AT, 33DF. Quite top-heavy on the offence but still awesome yet not utterly unassailable, unlike Fighter who is both a powerhouse and a tank.

However, one downside is that Cherie's aura isn't very good and thus her troops can barely dent those Stone Golems who are the monster equivalent of Phalanxes. Keith is up against some Dinos... too bad we can't get a Dino Knight... or even a Crocodile Knight.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1, Class Change!

Here is Keith's tier 5 class, Dragon Master. Just more goodness, AT+4 and an aura of A+21, D+10. Fantastic!

Rinse and repeat the above twice more, as Keith just turns these Bone Dinos into fossils. Now, it is Scott's time to shine down in the South, the heartland, where he belongs. Oh, Hein also helps out cause he's a good boy.

Level up! AT+1

The twins get to work on their mirror matchups down south with Lana going first. The important point is to open up the Phoenix to getting hurt to under 7HP, so that we can follow up with a Turn Undead next turn. Elementals count as Undead creatures, you see and as such get exorcised by a good turning. Lana starts us off.

Liana is next up and with her better aura bonuses, her Crusaders should do more damage but rather then discuss theory, let's look at it in practice.

Our hypothesis looks to be true in this instance. Further research is required but for now, only two more of our boys to go, so Lester is up first. We need to break the enemy centre or else, it'll haunt us later.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Perfect, no more witches and the won't be casting spells for at least 2 turns. Lester can finish next turn. Fighter is up next but doesn't have enough move to attack with everyone, so only two Grenadiers will get to strike.

Let's go!

Turn 1 is complete. Let's see what kind of rant Sonya will give us this turn.

Humans, humans, humans, humans! I wish you all would just die!
Grant me power! I want power to destroy the humans once and for all!

Die, fools! How dare you defile our temple!

So... perhaps I should have focused on the Spectres rather then the Witches, as they can go through walls and thus... attack Jessica. Good thing she survived though. Let's go Turn some Elementals with the twins!

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Aaahh-!

Level up! AT+1, MP+1, Zone was learned!

Aahhh!

Way to go, ladies! Now for the green-haired wunderkind to do his thing.

Obtained Orb & Platemail.

...

Why does a non-caster like the Living Armour have an Orb? Well, it's ours now so whatever. Once again, it is time for the Pirate to demonstrate his skills with the ol' cannon artillery barrage.

Obtained Amulet.

How could I lose to a mere human...?

Level up! DF+1

Well done, Lester. You are a master of the finest naval art, the esteemed Barrage.

Obtained Necklace.

Also, forgot to mention this is a new type of monster commander - the stone golem boss. I like his mugshot, it looks almost like he's smoking a pipe but he's dead now. Time for Cherie to show off her ranged attack.

Not much different to her normal attack aside from getting that black bar in place to indicate that it's a ranged attack. Time for Keith to hold up the enemies in the north.

Too easy, Sonya and the remnants of B?ser's forces are just pathetic. She really does need her God at this point, cause ours is already in the building - Fighter, avatar of Lushiris and unstoppable force of Light. Turn 2 is all done, though I did leave Keith dangerously exposed without minions surrounding him, I hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the arse.

Well now, things just never can be too easy now, can they? Alas, my arse is bitten, poor Keith is gone and his men have retreated. See you next map, buddy. New condition set for next map, Keith can't suffer any losses and must gain at least one level up. Time to piece meal the rest of this map.

Obtained Necklace.

Aarrghhh!

Turn 3 is over pretty quickly since there's mostly just moving up and killing some minions.

Level up! AT+1, MP+1, Charm was learned!

Again, more moving up and not alot of action - one major downside of a low CR that Cherie has is that her minions have far less mobility since they have to be adjacent to her to fight effectively.

Nearly there now, we've about to clear out what remains of the inital enemy forces, then we can just pick off Sonya at our leisure. Cherie & Lester, go nuts!

Obtained Necklace.

Gaahh-!

...

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1, Class Change!

So here is the Serpent Master who has a lower aura then Serpent Lord, but I guess more stats, so hooray? In any case, a stronger Lester is a happier Lester. And a happy Lester... is better then a drunk one.

That's all for Turn 5 - another short one and they'll be this way for a little bit.

Go Cherie! Finish off that Stone Golem Boss!

Obtained Necklace.

Arghh-!

Level up! MP+1

Summoned up Freyja, took some potshots at Sonya's Elementals, healed up with Lana and finished up my turn at this point. Here's what Sonya's forces do:

Not much, ey? She's rapidly becoming a non-threatening entity to us now that her forces have dwindled in number and herself in MP. Go, go Team Fighter!

Level up! AT+1, MP+1

Excellent work, my ranged warriors. There shall be drinks and sweets for all after this fight.

Two Fireballs later and Lester's Ballista are at 2HP, it is not a fun combo for him to face. Lana heals our boys up and so, Hein climbs the wall and begins his bloody assault. Lester backs him up.

Obtained Orb & Amulet.

...!

Now it's Cherie's turn to help with the wrapping up of this map.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

So, here's one of Liana's new spells, Again. Remember that class in Fire Emblem, the Bard/Dancer? This is that but in a ranged spell form, that works as long as you have any one of the minions in range regardless of whether they are within their commander's aura or not. Hello, Breaking, I'd like you to meet my good friend, the Game.

Another turn is done but the enemies just rally up and do no damage to us. Oh well, it's good for me but kinda boring for the LP, alas. I sent Lana up to the secret tile but no dice. I believe it's because this map's item and the previous one are mutually exclusive as they are both use the exact same 'riddle' with a Rune Stone as the prize.

Obtained Orb & Amulet.

In case you're wondering, this image got cropped due to some interference from another program. But you still get the gist, Sonya is down.

Aah!

Level up! AT+1, MP+2

Level up! AT+1

Sonya!

A moment's silence please, dear reader, as Sonya exits this realm lamenting that her prayers weren't answered. Rest in peace, dear Sonya, Rohga's waiting for you in the underworld, with love and the promise of a good fight when members of Team Fighter eventually perish.

That girl... Sonya, wished for nothing more than to be surrounded by love.
While she said she despised everyone, inside she honestly felt lonely.

...

But, we humans have to answer for that.
If humans didn't persecute that girl... If we showed her some understanding...

Sonya... so sad...

This war is merciless... Tragedies like these are why I choose to wield Langrisser!
The next generation should not know such suffering. Let us put an end to this war-torn, tear-filled era!

What a note to end on...

If you don't have at least a tear in your eye... well, you're a cold person. But, what this all means now is that there was no summoning of a Chaos god, and all that's left in everyone's mouths is a bitter taste. There's nothing left to do but move on, take it to the Emperor and therefore, crush Bernhardt's Ambition for El Sallia once and for all. 2 missions to go, next time we snuff out the brightest light in the entirety of the Empire.
