Leon's Last Stand

Having spirited away the Dark Blade from the cursed land, Velzeria, Kaiser Bernhardt walled himself and his elite forces within the castle. But standing betwixt the companions and the Kaiser were the brave knight, Leon, and the dark magician, Egbert, who guard the castle gates. With neither side willing to back down and teacher pitted against student, a fierce battle was about to blaze forth on the battlefield.
A few minor shuffles with equipment, nothing too serious just throwing on more Necklaces since we have them in abundance now, thanks to that last mission. Let's take a look at the map:
In the grand tradition of reaching near the end-game, I decide to cut back on major strategizing and tactical thinking and make the plan follow the KISS principle as seen below.
So yeah, most of the enemy forces will be cavalry and consist of quite a few basic Lancers who are just fodder for the grind machine that is Team Fighter. There's the one aerial unit up north and two mages with Grenadiers that should be priority targets for our forces. I expect heavy causalities for both sides in this all-out honourable slugfest, that is fitting for our final battle with the Blue Dragon Knights. Let us Sortie out to our final battle with Leon!

Fighter is strong indeed. Powerful enough to make it this far. But, he is nothing by himself.

Let's begin by striking hard against those Mages who could be quite lethal. Since we're close to the end, we can focus fire down their commanders.

Valkyrie comes out so we can fire off a Quick and get Liana some needed EXP so that she can change into the Princess she was destined to be. Go go Team Ballista fire!

So the ranged magic threat is gone for this map, so the rest should be a simple matter of beating down Leon and his forces until victory is upon us. I worry about this ambush but for now, it's best to charge ahead heedless of the danger, in true Fighter fashion. Here's how our forces look at the end of turn 1:
The right side is secure with Angels protecting our vulnerable ranged units from a cavalry charge... the left side, it's vulnerable though Fighter is there to punish any sort of attempt to enter our lines. Turn 1 is over.

Laird and the rest do nothing, so I worried over nothing regarding the vulnerablities in my left flank. Still it's a clusterfuck in the center - just have a look:
Stop Leon! Why? Why must you fight us? If we join ranks, we can end this.
Truly, if we were to become allies, we could stop this war... But someday, quarrels will renew, and blood will be shed.
Even if the conflict ends, history will repeat itself. Only an ideal unified nation, one of potency and stability, will bring any hope of lasting peace.
And I swore, together with His Majesty, to achieve our dream of El Sallia's unification! The Kaiser is the only one who can do this.
This is the surest... the only path to peace! In this plan, Fighter's existence is a nuisance.

Could've been much worse if I didn't focus fire some of the commanders earlier on. This is just an inevitable fact of the battlefield, if you don't press your advantage you'll pay for it. Make the most of your opportunities in war, life and love, everyone.
It's time for an all out offensive now or ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK! aka the banzai stratagem, as we need only keep one enemy unit alive for the purposes of snatching those secret tiles.

Now we just have to keep Leon suppressed with magic whilst Fighter moves onto the secret tile. I'll skip ahead, but first here's one of Cherie's new spells from her Ranger class, Blast.
Also, as it turns out Fighter can't get at the secret tile, so our only flier Keith is sent out. This is another of those mutually exclusive pair of secret items - the one of the left gives MP+2, the right gives AT+1. Keith goes for the right one.

Now to finish this. Leon, you've been a great adversary and when times allowed, a great friend. Loyal, steadfast and true to your convictions, you were an honourable foe and more importantly, a great man. Cherie will finish you in an honourable way, sliced by her motion wave sword.

This map is a great change from some of the previous ones where you're constantly calculating ranged units threat ranges manually... once the mages are gone, it's a pure slugfest with Leon and his men. Very satisfying. Still, the greatest stars burn ever so bright before they twinkle out of existence. Next time, let's finish this and take out Bernhardt and Egbert once and for all. No holds barred, this will be a bloodbath.
