Scenario ?3
Sentai Kamen Langrisser

--------------------------

Having crossed the bridge, the imperial forces discovered a mysterious cave at the foot of the bridge. Curious what the cave may contain, the company cautiously entered the mouldering interior. Within stood a lone witch protected by her fiery companions. But little did the companions know, the simple-looking witch possessed a secret power they could never have imagined...

Some changes to our equipment such as Octavian finally losing his Swift Boots and handing them over to Imelda. Plus we get her a Magic Wand, whilst he gets an Amulet in exchange - he'll be an anti-mage unit in no time. The map is the same as X2 except the unit placement - both ally and enemy, also here's the second map with forced placement, hence the map having commanders rather then flags. Take a look:

It's pretty straight forward map with enemy monsters. I believe there is some gimmick to this map but given I've never done it before, your guess is as good as mine in regards to what it is. Given that our plan is rather simple.

Now, let us take out the witch and her coven! For Pax Rayguardia! We march!

Video: Pre-Scenario ?3

Who could live here? I wonder...
]
Investigating couldn't hurt. Just be on your guard.

Personally, I'm hoping for a little excitement...

There's someone in there!

Who could it be?

Probably just some stragglers. I wonder why they're here. This cave isn't exactly on the beaten path.

He's that guy everyone keeps calling a maniac.

I know I have a reputation for saying whatever pops into my head, but I'm at a loss here.

I can't believe they caught me this way... and now they are calling me a maniac...!?

What's a maniac? Can you eat it?

You made me face-palm, Rogha... but in a good way.

I can't believe I'm hearing this!

There seems to be some dissension among them...

The old lady is getting pretty hysterical.

Old... lady...? I'm going to kill you.

That's right evil-doers!

For we are... The Golden Dragon Youth Defence Force!

We have joined forces to stop nefarious deeds and spread justice to all!

Black Ranger is right! We'll bring you guys to justice!

Umm... Would you kindly explain to me again why we are "maniacs"...

There's no reason to waste words on villain scum! We'll show you!

Well, shall we win another battle? This one looks simple enough.

The spandex-clad superheroes seem to be challenging us...
Do they really think they can withstand our assault...?

You guys sure get worked up over a little name-calling, don't you?

Hey, I heard that! Now hear my fist as it pummels justice into your black hearts!

No argument from me!

Wheeeelp... I was wrong. It's not about a coven of witches and her monsters that we need to put down, instead it's a gaggle of masked superheroes who just happen to be monsters and stuff... maybe their costumes are transformative? In any case, time to crush these vigilantes... for the Empire! And mostly for Imelda, cause she is still damn fine for being in her thirties, by Lushiris!

When we select Hein...

I know I haven't mentioned it before, but I've dabbled a bit in astrology. And everyone, today is supposed to be my lucky one. So let's move already!

For once, I play defensively and set us up for an attack next turn - this map should be good for leveling Imelda up if I can feed her kills. Might even get Octavian onto Knight Master and perhaps a few levels towards rushing towards Royal Guard.

All right, lets take these guys out!

Maybe this isn't such a good idea... They're pretty strong.

Let's take them to the underworld, boys!

Wyverns... ignoring solid advice from their serpent pals since 1998.

Looks like my power's run low. I need to... power up!

Leave it to me! I'll protect you!

That's right, my lady. You have nothing to fear!

So in spite of being in range to strike us they choose not to, another quirk of the AI presents itself. Much like in Advance Wars, enemy units do not go in the optimal order to cause the most damage but rather go in some sort of pre-determined order. How this relates to why they didn't strike us - the enemy commander if it's not set to super aggressive or cut off, will always attempt surround itself with 4 minions. Bring it together and if the first two minions that move aren't the ones in range then even if the other 4 are in range, they'll choose to surround their commander and thus, not attack. Note, this works only if the commander can't get in range themselves.

You, you fiend! Do you think to beat me? I'm a champion of justice!
What's wrong, squirt?

Don't screw with me! Let's see what you've really got!

Don't like fun at your expense? Well, maybe my 'leet skills will entertain you!
Secret Technique: Ascending Super Spiral... of the Hurricane!

Wow... just wow. I assume the latter part is referring to the Shoryuken and the earlier part makes me think this Roc is the embodiment of the Blue Ranger. Once we kills ol' Bluey with Imelda...

My name is Ishida, and none of you forget it. Ishida, the Battling Champion. I bid you farewell!

I'm coming to back you up! Keep your spirits high!

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Bleach reference or what? Only time will tell. Leon heals up Imelda and Rohga guards the line.

And that's Turn 2 over. Ishida's down and many more vigilantes are to follow. This cave shall run red with the blood of true heroes who do nothing on their turn, so its back to Team Maniac. When we select Hein...

The stars were right! I'm totally kicking ass today.

Hein... What are you talking about?

It's nothing...! Well then, let's go!

Now unleash hell, Hein.

Endgame... You think your pitiful attacks can succeed? Then observe my god-like defence!

Damn! I must... maintain my godly defence! (CC:99)

Oh, Black Ranger - you're pretty cool even though I've crushed your Ultimate God Tier Armor of Justice with pretty boy Hein. Now, let's let everyone else play.

I wouldn't want to hurt a babe like you...

Aww, isn't that sweet. Are you hitting on me? Sorry honey... but I just want to be friends!

Ow, what pain! You really are merciless...
But before you make up your mind, at least take a look at my ultimate moves! Let's end this right now, lady!
Hyper Speed Lavender Splash!

Hmmm... You're fairly skilled.

A flash of white emanates from Red Ranger...

What the hell? A barrier of spirit energy!? (CC:100)

Hah hah! This will be your grave! Your attacks are futile against us!

Hah hah hah... Your power level is weak, old man! You thought you could trap me in this pathetic little barrier...?
GrRrR-aAaRrGgHh!

Rohga flashes white...

What!? You can raise your power level that quickly...?

Damn right, I can! Talk all you want, in five minutes I'm sending you to the next dimension! (CC:101)

Clearly a DBZ reference, five minutes till Freiza blows up planet Namek... like 20 full length episodes later. This won't take that long, I promise.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

Step aside!

Impossible. I've promised a good friend otherwise. But I will let you have a taste of true power!
Secret Strike Engetsu Kagizaki!

And we're done for Turn 3, Black, Red, Green & Yellow are going to join Blue next turn.

I can beat you guys with my right hand alone. To be honest, I kind of have to.
My left hand is only for holding my head... Such is the life of a Dullahan.
Don't blink! The next move is my family's succession technique...
Ultra Sword Slash Rolling Thunder Secret Strike!

I like you, Black - you're good stuff.

Hey Sis, I need to take a little rest. Is that okay...? Bye Mr. Dragon... someday... someday again...

Leons heals everyone up and Imelda continues to lash out at those who wronged her.

Goodbye, everyone. See you later... Farewell, young warriors...

Level up! MP+1

When Octavian charges in...

Let's get this over with!

Ugh... It seems you have beaten me... Farewell, Tiger... You always were... the king of the jungle...

I leave Red on 1HP, so that Imelda can take him out next turn. That's what feeding kills is all about after all. Turn 4 is over. And since they do nothing, Imelda does exactly that.

No matter how I'm injured, I won't give up. Farewell Sword... Super Star Smash!

This is a message from the Masayan broadcast system... We know this scenario is a bit short, but thanks for playing it. We appreciate your support! To tell you the truth, the Golden Dragon Youth Defence Force's world is incredibly important. Their alternate dimension is where the Masaya staff masses its army of plastic soldiers for world conquest...!

Now then, we continue your regularly scheduled game!

So... these Kamen Riders are based off their D&D/RPG characters? I guess that could make sense...

When we select Hein again...

So, what about that sword we're searching for? We better hurry this up. Maybe we should get back to the real mission...

Weren't you just bragging about how much you were "kicking ass"?

Err... Heh heh, that's right. Back to battle, everyone...!

We consolidate and heal up our forces, ready to start a push to the end next turn. Well 2 turns as it turns out.

Level up! MP+1, Class Change!

I believe this was mentioned before, but Imelda's going for her canon route - so Saint it is.

So, we're very close to winning this one. I don't know how to move the Witch unless she moves on her own. We'll see I guess... but at least it'll be easy to feed the commanders to Imelda. Turn 8 is over.

Two Fireballs go off, but the Elves don't capitalize on our reduced strength state. Bad move.

When Hein attacks the witch boss with a fireball...

Hein... It... hurts.

And that wraps up Turn 9. Turn 10 should be it for this one, I reckon as they are just healing up from now on.

Gaaahh-! I've been injured!

Are you all right, Kerberos?

No, there's no other choice. I must use my secret technique!

Nooo-! Not Shady too!?

How depraved... To be taken down by Imperial scum!

Argh! It's hopeless!

Radical Princess Dark Power... Make up!

What? How did she transform?

Eh, what was that?

Whoa! How cool! I want to learn that!

You'll have to wait for puberty, kiddo.

Radical Princess, your transformation won't save you now.

So yeah... that was a mix of Sailor Moon and Card Captor Sakura with Kerberos. Just... yeah. Let's move on.

Take care!

Hein goes to weaken her... whilst Imelda goes to kill the remaining subordinate in this magical girl festival...

of blood. He says nothing in death and thus, dies as he lived... in shock and awe.

I learn a valuble lesson whilst trying to whittle her down... she has a Longbow equipped. So no more Elf attacks for keeping her low HP, instead we use Hein. Apparently, the secret item can only be gotten after Turn 20... so let's skip ahead and find out.

Fast as fast can be, you'll never catch me! Warp...! I'll be back!

What? She vanished... Quick, head for where she was standing! She may have left something behind.

She teleports 2 spaces south, within easy kill range of Imelda. Those 11 turns of keeping her at low HP weren't for nothing.

Will you look at it?
I waited 20 fucking turns for this, what do you think!?, Nah, I'm cool without.
Obtained Assault Suit.

Obtained Long Bow & Odin's Buckler.

Gaaahhh... How can... How can justice lose!? Goodbye, cruel world!

Level up! AT+1, MP+2

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1, Sleep was learned!

Ding dong! The witch is dead! Which old witch? The justice bitch! (CC:102)

What the hell are you talking about, Octavian?

That was fun!

I'm feeling a little tired...!

We've already wasted too much time. Let's hurry ahead.

All right, let's get a move on!

And that is all for this secret scenario... I actually prefer this one over ?2's quiz gimmick. It's just so random and with many delicious comments that make me can't believe I missed out on this the first time through. Octavian's little ditty at the end puts him miles ahead of his Light protagonist self. Anyway next time, a brand new map! And another familiar face, who has always been cruisin' for a bruisin'... at least for the way they treat Hein, regardless of the path we're in.

However, I would like to note we've reached a milestone beyond having finished one out of the four story paths... we've hit triple digits for the curse counter! I expected it to come sooner actually, but then again I wasn't really checking for death quotes unless they came up nor was I counting the word 'hell'. Still, we're here and it feels great

Totally beats the Fire Emblem approach to dealing with war and flavourful language - War is fucking hell and Rohga/Lester aren't afraid to call you out on it. Now then, thread feel free to guess how many we'll get to by the end and then, guess how many are in the final script as I'll definitely be asking D about this.
