Scenario 11
It is every father's hope
that his child is raised
in a peaceful world

--------------------------

Hundreds of years ago, the Descendants of Light reigned over Baldea, the kingdom of light, blessed by Lushiris's holy power. The legendary blade wielded by Sieghart in the days when Baldea was known as Elthlead slumbers within the castle's heart. However, to oppose the Empire once again, the Descendants of Light have arrived to capture Langrisser for their own ends... Once again, the volatile continent El Sallia shall bear witness to a struggle for the holy sword.

So some equipment shuffling, I take the Assault Suit off Leon since that makes him more of a fighter then Fighter was at this point of the game. Instead he can have some Swift Boots to help wade the water, whilst Octavian takes up a Necklace and Rohga gets a Crown. As it turns out, it gives him +2 CR yet he has a CR of 1 with it equipped - the same as the Necklace. That makes no sense since Rangers are meant to have a CR of 0, not -1! Guh, there goes the dream of being able to do more then just the cross formation for Rohga. Let's take a look at the changes to the Baldean ruins map.

Here is Laird's stats, he's pretty darn good for this point of the game though he should have his usual War Hammer/Chainmail equipment duo which he doesn't for some reason. Oh well, at least his Royal Lancers are almost as good as Octavian's Dragoons.

So we start on the left and Laird is on our team this time, not some useless knight like last time. Heck he's stronger then Leon is by a fair degree, but Leon will be able to catch up in a few maps. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say Laird is somewhat of a crutch character in this map as if you feed him enough kills he'll class change. I won't be doing that since it's a waste of good EXP. I'll also note that Keith & Jessica are present, though they're pretty easy prey for our forces. Here's the plan for this map.

There's the same secret tiles again, I believe and the whole Masayan sword if you redo the map. I'll nab it in the Chaos path since its much more useful due to the changing party roster.

For Pax Rayguardia! Men & Imelda, we claim Langrisser for the Empire!

Hmmm... A little longer... Grr-! I can't stand it!

Just... A little longer...

*a baby's cry is heard*

O, oh!

Lord Vargas, congratulations! You're the father of a baby girl!

O, oh! Eliza! Oh! Such a charming lass she is! She'll grow up to be beautiful, just like Eliza! I'm the world's luckiest man!

Of course we've got some! We're here in our humble, well-stocked home!

Such a happy occasion!

Forgive me, dear. Didn't you really want a baby boy?

Yes... I did. But I've thought of a name for a daughter, too!

My, what name have you thought of?

How about Emilia?

Emilia... Emilia is a good name for her. Well, my wee lass, your name shall be Emilia.

Emilia, do you understand? I'm your Papa!

My, I wonder if she does understand? It looks like she's smiling...

*fade to black*

So, if you didn't tear up a bit at this touching scene, you are a monster.
Also, the Empire path could actually be canon since Emilia ends up having a half-brother and together they wind up ruling a Blazing Dragon Empire of their very own. Go Vargas, your progeny have the Blazing Dragon blood flowing strong in their veins! Here's what she'll look like in about 15 years:

Scarlet Princess Emilia. She's goddamn boss.

Now, back to the present and the fight for Langrisser.

Colonel, your service is beyond measure. Excellent work! Our goal lies within reach.

Hmmm... I wonder if our troubles will be over so easily.

Speaking of which, where is Langrisser?

It lies on the central altar.

Well, let's get this over with.

...! This won't be as simple as you make it sound!

What a bother.

General Leon, let's hurry. We must get the sword before they do.

Indeed. Egbert said only two people besides myself are able to draw the sword. Our strategy must take them into consideration.

The two being Cherie & Liana... and L?na (since they're twins) plus Octavian and heck, even Jessica should be able to draw it since y'know she is the avatar of the Goddess who helped create the sword in the first place. So... five people? That's pretty bad since basically anyone can draw Alhazard (ignoring the fact they'll turn into B?ser), once it's been unsealed of course.

I see. In any case, let's move. Time to get Langrisser!

Turn 1 is as we've come to expect on big maps, kinda lackluster - just aligning our forces and prepping for a Turn 2 charge.

General Leon, what would you have me do? Shall I take the offensive or maintain our defence?

Stand by for now, Clear a path to the altar, It's your decision

As you wish. I'll stand against the enemy while you secure a passage into the castle.

Laird casts Attack1 on Rohga - I'm liking this turn of events IF this means Rohga starts Turn 2 with the buff. If not, then what's the point?

Lady Jessica! I heard that those who are not Descendants of Light can't draw the Holy Blade. If that's so, let's use all our power to defeat Octavian before he gets Langrisser. If we do that, then we can remove it at our leisure.

No... If my memory is clear, that man, Leon, can also draw Langrisser.

What? Impossible-! He's a Descendant of Light?

If that foreign sword he holds is genuine, then he's a Descendant.

In that case, we've no choice but to take Langrisser before either of them.

That's right. I'll approach the central altar. Everyone, please offer me your support.

Yes, my Lady!

Leon, you and I are both Descendants of Light?

Yes, Egbert said something to that effect. This sword proves our heritage. The soldier Dieh?rte, my ancestor, is said to have been given it a century ago.

The blade is a unique design. I've never seen another like it.

It is what they call a katana. As a sword for killing, it has no match.

I see. All that considered, I wonder which of us should approach the altar.

Either of you will do. Just remember why we seek the sword.

By offering Langrisser to His Majesty, we shall forge a noble, prosperous world. The whole continent may join in an era of peace. Pax Rayguardia, if you will.

Rohga delivers some death at range and his Phalanx cohort follows up. Then Hein supports with some heavy artillery and soon, he'll drop Meteors on heads.

Leave the rest to me! Octavian's bunch, get the sword!

H, how regrettable...

And Imelda racks up an easy Fireball double kill, wiping out one unit of cavalry - severely reducing the strength of their line.

And that's Turn 2 - Leon & Octavian have crossed the bridge and are making their way into Baldea. The altar is roughly 4-5 turns away, assuming no delays from enemy aerial units.

It makes no difference. Even if Cherie should come here...

Please wait a little longer. We can't say at this point whether we've truly lost.

I understand. Until Cherie comes, do the best you can.

The cavalry attempts to strike at our flank. Imelda has this to say about such tactics:

You think you can win against General Imelda of the Water Dragon Navy?

I won't lose to any Imperial Army!

I won't back down!

Watch out! Keith's aerial army has arrived!

This isn't a good time to hit them. Advance slowly until that girl, Cherie, appears.

Everyone, lend a hand! We'll be in trouble if the route to the altar isn't secure! If the aerial army blocks us, Cherie will snatch Langrisser.

Leon & Octavian move on up, but let's head back to where the real action is at the moment. Rohga opens up with a sweet tornado, which the mages can follow through with fireballs and such.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1

And that's Turn 3 - thanks to our magical onslaught, the situation is looking good on the main front. We're miles ahead on the grabbing Langrisser front as well, even with Cherie ability to fly. Another tornado should do the trick and I want to feed Imelda some kills and keeping everyone low HP (1-2) will allow her to sweep multiple bodies in a single Fireball.

You're a damned fool to attack me. You only live once! (CC:108)

Keith has almost reached Leon/Octavian, whilst those low HP forces move closer in as if they want to be slaughtered en masse in a blaze of fiery death, destruction and Imelda.

Level up!

Wh, what strength...

And that's all for the main front, now to engage Keith & the Kalxathian Aerial Knights.

Hand over Langrisser so we can realise our ideal!

At least they spared us the sentimental twaddle. Well, on to the next bunch.

Octavian is just out of reach, but that's okay - I've arranged Leon's Bandits as bait for Keith to charge, so that we can strike from multiple angles of attack.

Until I have Langrisser, I cannot accept defeat!

You won't get any farther than this!

Ouch. Two Bandits lost, but the tactical positional gain is immense. Let's demonstrate by starting off on this front next turn.

Out of my way! I won't let you stand between me and the altar!

So Keith is looking pretty bad thanks to the combined offensive and next turn, Leon should be able to wrap up. Hopefully, those weak lil Hawk Lords will mosey on over to get their Fairy lights smashed in. Now for another duo fireball to give Imelda 3 more ballista kills under her belt.

Hein follows her up with ballista fire.

You Imperials are impressive, making it through to us.

You all cannot... have... Langrisser...

Sweet - two units of mages remain and Rohga's right up in their faces. Hopefully, he'll absorb some mage fire so that Hein & Imelda can safely move in to finish these guys off. If Cherie shows up... well, the Empire can deal.

Ehh... not much damage, so we should be right to wrap up the main front soon.

Too easy, Rohga can charge in next turn whilst Imelda can finish off the solo commander. Back into the ruins in the north.

Obtained S.H.I.E.L.D.

No... Can I do no more...? Send my apologies to the Princess. I can no longer aid our alliance. I, I must withdraw...

Level up! AT+1

Leon should be able to handle the rest of the fliers whilst Octavian moves to cut off Jessica. That's it for Turn 6, Cherie should be showing up soon.

General Vargas!

Hmmm... You're in a good mood, Vargas. Is it really okay to leave your wife alone for this?

Sure! Gah hah! She's already given birth. It was a girl. My cute daughter is round as a ball, just like me! Gah hah hah!

Geh heh heh. It went as expected...

We're going to win this. I've got a wife and new daughter to honour! Get ready for a major ass-kicking! (CC:109)

And when we select Vargas...

I'm unshakable. I'm fearless. Right now, let's go!
Level up! AT+1, Class Change!

Vargas is going to make an excellent Serpent Knight, that's for sure. Then he can honour his wife, his daughter and his mount - Gulcasa. He also can recruit our first monster unit - the Leviathan, which we'll see next map I'm sure.

Level up! AT+1, DF+1

He heads up to the water, as he's going to be fishing for our secret tile whilst we wrap everything else up. Let's shift our focus from an awesome hero of the Empire and his heart-touching birth of his daughter, Emilia, and head back to the main front. Rohga fires off another Tornado and Hein/Imelda move in.

Its too early for this...

Only one mage and two pikes remain... this is one turn away from the main front being completely secure. Now back to Leon killing some birds and whilst Octavian deals with Jessica, the nipple monster God incarnate.

And that's Turn 7, the enemy does nothing but move up. This is basically it unless Cherie decides to finally show her mug... seriously, what is taking her so long?

D, damn you! (CC:110)

Level up! AT+2, MP+1

That's mostly all done, I even retreated Octavian a little so that Jessica couldn't get her High Elves into range. Better to rush her in one fell swoop rather then a protracted fight since that increases the likelihood of Cherie coming in and doing something unpredictable. Back to the southern front, Hein starts us up.

I only made it this far...

Level up! AT+1, DF+1, MP+1, Protection 2 was learned!

And that is the southern front completely secured. If Cherie shows up, Hein will blast her in the face with Ballista fire - think Joan of Arc and we're the English Empire. Maybe there'll be a burning at a stake, maybe not. Time will tell. On the other hand, speak of the devil...

The Imperial Army doesn't have it either. If you take advantage of your mobility, you might make it in time. I'll support you from here. Please, go with all haste to the altar... and return with Langrisser!

Cherie of Kalxath, heading out!

So, a Dragon Knight has come... Hurry, Octavian. Don't let them take the sword!

Understood.

Don't let the Empire near Langrisser!

Cherie will not get Langrisser. Stop her by any means necessary!

I may be a bit behind, but I'll catch up fast!

She's not kidding, she flies straight up from her starting position... right into range of Imelda & Hein

But first, let's take out the northern front first. Leon wants some hawk blood on his blade.

Damn you, Imperial scum bags! (CC:111)

Level up! AT+1, Class Change!

Now, I don't know how good your memories are but about a month ago you guys voted for Leon to become a Royal Guard. I tried to give him a bit more spice and variety compared to Octavian rather then having two Cavalry for the majority of the opening of the Imperial path.

Anyway, my point is say hello to Knight Master Leon! One downside though, he can't equip the Assault Suit - in fact no one can anymore, alas. Octavian creeps closer to Jessica, since the cavalry suffer some severe MV penalties indoors. Now Hein & Imelda combine to put the hurt on Cherie. Imelda buffs Hein's Ballista and then the give her to broadside.

Unless her 'head-to-Langrisser' AI overrides the self-preservation aspect, she'll need to stay put and heal up. This basically wins it for us, since she can't use her mobility to get away from us. This is it, so let's move towards a rapid finish.

Think you can dodge my sword?

You're just going to abandon your destiny? You were chosen to protect Langrisser!

I don't recall accepting such a mission! With Langrisser, we could end the strife. We could end the bloodshed. That's why we must have that sword. Also, you're not my real dad! Don't tell me what to do!

Wow. Octavian has shit defence... I'll need to work on that. Maybe rune stone him into a Lord or some such? Well whatever it is, that is just not cool. We're back in control, so let's move to wrap this up ASAP.

Level up! AT+1, MP+2, Meteor was learned!

So two High Elves couldn't kill Octavian from 8 HP, so that's it. That was their last chance to win... sucks to be them.

Obtained Magic Wand & Cloak.

No death speech? I'm shocked. Oh well, Vargas, go pick up rummage through some flotsam for the secret. It is the same one as before - with the flower sprite on the plank of wood. AT+3 for Vargas! Anyway, Imelda will finish Cherie off now.

Octavian, your strength is truly incredible... To have defeated everyone... You won't be so lucky next time. As soon as our army has recovered, we'll crush your ambitions!

Level up! AT+1, MP+2

Level up!

We've brushed aside our foes. There won't be any further hindrance.

Now, we can approach the altar uninterrupted.

Octavian literally just blinks into the altar, no warning or fade out/in.

Obtained Langrisser.

You've done well, Octavian. With Langrisser in hand, all the continent will soon know Imperial order.

Our dream is coming closer and closer to its realisation. Warfare will soon trouble this world no longer...

Aye. From here on, the Empire has our hearts and blades.

Indeed. For a peaceful world, we offer our best.

That's right!

If only my Eliza and developed boobs like yours! Gah ha ha! Stop acting like pansies and get a move on!

I had forgotten Vargas said such a thing... dude that's just such a strange way to call them pansies.

If you think about it, we have the long-term advantage...

All right, back to the Imperial Capital!

And that's not all - we have to check out what would happen if Octavian/Leon get to Langrisser before we obliterate the forces of Light. Let's start with Octavian but as we get close to Langrisser's chamber, Leon says this:

The Holy Blade, Langrisser... With this sword's power, I can end the troubles of the world.

Octavian says something as well.

So that's it... That's Langrisser...!

Then he grabs it...

So this... This is Langrisser!

Obtained Langrisser.

Leon says the same thing as usual but Cherie chimes in after that.

I can still do it! Just because Langrisser is taken doesn't mean I'll be defeated!

Please stop, Cherie! You're only hurting yourself by fighting with that wound. You should retreat for now.

Rest of the scene is the same again. Now, Leon will grab Langrisser...

Hmmm... So, this is Langrisser.

Obtained Langrisser.

Same dialogue between Cherie & Jessica, but after that...

You did it, Leon. The day of one great Imperial continent will dawn before our very eyes. And this new nation will have no need for war.

And that's it for the extras on this map! Next time, we return to the Imperial Capital - Castle Rayguard, but total war occurs along the way. Here's a question - if you're already at war with an aggressor who is waging a war of conquest, can you turn that around and declare total war back on them... several months down the track?
