Officer's Log, Apprentice Quinn Cuzen 12 Jan 3000. Why "apprentice", you ask? It seems our illustrious leader has a bit of the medieval romantic in him. He must be one of those old Lyran nobles or something, going around and calling himself "Knight Commander Hansen". I'm not entirely sure whether he was joking when he said we could also call him "his excellency". I'd almost hope he wasn't, if he was somebody else's commander.

The unit is 12 days out of Galatea, which means we're sitting here at the jump point waiting for our refit kits to get in. The commander had me put in orders for a half dozen of them, as well as putting down bids on a Rifleman that I can't believe we managed to win, and a pair of Aerospace fighters. I asked him what the hell he was thinking, and he just told me he had something 'special' in mind for the 'Mech. A few hours later I learned that one of the Techs' hobby was spending unauthorized time in the simulators. Turns out she's a pretty damn good shot for someone who's never had any formal training. She's officially on the books as both a Tech, assigned to her own 'Mech, and as a MechWarrior, callsign: Tophat. She came up with it, not me. I'm less certain about the fighters, but Commander Hansen was adamant on them. They were a good price, and air support is a big priority for him.

I also put in for a bunch of spare parts. Armor, heat sinks, lasers. A few autocannons that our 'Mechs don't even have yet, just to be sure. We've got the spare cash for it, and I've been stuck on a backwater before where a unit would have killed somebody for a spare ton of missile ammo. That's not happening to this unit, not on my watch. They'll meet us at the jump point, too. I'm glad our employers provided a Mule for all this transport, because otherwise we'd probably run out of room.

Commander Hansen also put out an announcement that anypone in the unit who wants training in combat fields, or even other technical skills should make it known to their section chief. Already there've been a couple sign ups for Aerospace Tech positions, which is definitely good now that we've got a pair of fighters lounging in the cargo hold. That new MechWarrior also indicated a desire to be both an AeroTech and an Aero pilot. I don't know how feasible it is to do everything, but if she can pull it off I might try to pull her for admin work, too. You never know.

looks like the parts are going to be here soon, and I need to be there to greet them. Paperwork.
