Part 25: The Final Showdown

It's the 2-year anniversary of the Keroro RPG LP! Infrequent updates aside, it was a short game. It's fun, cute, and plays well, but it is just a licensed anime game, after all.

It's been fun, but our time with Tales of Frogs is drawing to a close. The 3 Legendary Armaments are in the platoon's possession. All that's left is to undo the seal, and finally face the Dark Lord, Agon.

But first, we stock up on healing items and cooking ingredients. This little guy's under orders from Agon himself to make sure we're fully prepared to face him. What a nice Dark Lord!

Now let's break his seal, and beat him up.

VIDEO: The Unsealing

The door is tightly sealed. But when Keroro and his friends hold the 3 Legendary Armaments up to it...

Blinding light fills the area, and there's a loud, ominous door-opening sound.

An uneasy silence falls over the group.

Gero...

So a whole buncha monsters aren't gonna come swarming outta the castle...?

It... it looks like we're in the clear.

Hahahaha... hahahaha!

It's been a long time since we heard that evil laugh.

You've done well to gather the 3 Legendary Armaments, and undo my dark castle's seal! Come to my throne room. There, we shall battle as equals!

Gero! The Keroro Platoon won't be beaten by the likes of you!

That's my Sargey! I'm in love! You're so awesome!

Dark Lord! You've got the device that can send us back to our world, don't you?

Heheheh... approach me, and you shall find out for yourself. I await your arrival with great anticipation! Hahahaha!

So you won't tell us the most vital piece of info, huh? Not the most straightforward guy. Kuku!

But going by the way he spoke, we can presume that he knows something about it. Let's hurry and defeat the Dark Lord, then seek out the device's location.

Sounds like a plan.

First thing noticeable in the next room is a save circle.

But we can't take two steps toward it without getting into our first battle in the Dark Lord's Castle.

This recolor is aptly named Bat Signal. I'm so not kidding.

Following the red carpet straight ahead seems to be the most obvious way to advance.

This decor just screams evil throne room.

Oh. Just a mirror. Lookin' good, Sergeant.

What we actually wanna do is take one of the twisting side paths out of the room with the save circle.

The monsters Tamama expected to come spilling out of the castle are all hanging out in these narrow corridors. Skull Soldiers and a Ghastly Ghost gather around the Bat Signal.

The castle menagerie also features Toxic Slimes.

Most of the dead ends have treasure chests, so it's worth it to search every corner. At the moment, stuff like this Best Herb is hard to come by, and we need all we can get.

Venomous Jiraiya is Dororo's second Ninja Master Arte.

Using this Arte, Dororo makes a giant frog appear, which is what the shapeshifting folk hero Jiraiya was known to morph into. A frog... summoning a frog.

Then the giant frog spews toxic mist. Non-elemental, oddly enough, but it can poison.

More Curry Spice is always welcome.

Giroro picks up a new Arte as well: Burst Limit.

He tosses a remote bomb at the enemy...

...Then turns around, holds out the detonator like an action hero, and hits the button. Who is he trying to impress?

We find some Special Curry Spice, as well.

And a treasure trap.

Six Toxic Slimes. Like every other treasure trap, they pose no real threat.

Keroro's next in line for a new move. This time it's Flash Hornet, his second Pirate King Arte.

Keroro swings his cutlass in a circle. It can paralyze the target sometimes, but there's a long delay afterward.

After running into more treasure traps than any other dungeon, we find a Red Helmet.

This item gives us a new Support. Wonder Momo starred in the side-scrolling 1987 arcade game of the same name. One with lots of shameless fanservice, apparently.

It's best to summon Wonder Momo in the middle of a bunch of enemies.

She'll do her signature Wonder Kick, hitting enemies on both sides.

Momo is actually an actress playing a superhero role.

After exploring for treasure and getting turned around a lot, the platoon advances deeper into the castle.

VIDEO: A Frog Hero's Resolve

Keroro and co. know a dramatic musical cue when they hear one.

Our journey felt much longer than it really was.

I was truly astonished the first time I met Oyuki.

Same here. When I met Momocchi, I was totally surprised! And she was a mermaid, even! She was sooo pretty!

P... Princess Summer gave me quite a shock, too.

Looking back on their arduous journey, Keroro and his comrades reflect once more. The Keroro Platoon must seize victory, so they can return to their dear friends!

Koyuki...

Momocchi...

Natsumi...

Master Fuyuki...

Oh, me? Well, this world has curry, too.

...

Standing in the way of our intrepid heroes is the final decisive battle against the Dark Lord Agon!

When this is all over, I'm gonna get married...

Hey, wait a minute, Mister Narrator! I told you not to get carried away like that!

Lines like that are really bad luck, ya know!

Once again, I'm sorry. When I think about the final battle, it just happens...

You really can't help yourself, can you?

Okay, platoon. Let's refocus ourselves, and keep storming the castle to the Dark Lord! ...Yes sir!

We're only about halfway through.

More twisting halls await us.

Hard Muscle, a recolor of the Bandit Boss, joins the random encounters in this area of the castle.

He has all the same attacks...

...With more power, of course.

Hey may be a regular enemy, but he can still knock frogs flat.

Still lots of treasure to find. This chest contains the RX-78NT-1 Gundam, also known as "Alex."

It's a prototype mobile suit made specifically for Newtypes, or humans who have evolved a heightened sense of mental awareness in the Gundam universe. It was featured in the OVA series Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

As a mobile suit, it was designed for the much-faster reaction time of Newtypes. As a Guardian, the boosts to HP, Defense, and Speed seem to reflect this. Its two Skills are Stone Guard, which prevents the same-as-death petrification status, and Ground Resist, which lowers damage from earth-based attacks.

Our next nice treasure is the Crystal Edge, a weapon for Keroro.

It increases Attack, Defense, and Speed when equipped. Definitely useful for the upcoming final battle.

Next we find another heroic accessory, the Red Scarf.

It belongs to Bravoman, from the 1988 action game of the same name. I had no idea there was a webtoon for this guy. Also, they added his theme to the latest Smash Bros. game. Neat!

When summoned, Bravoman appears...

...And Bravo-Kicks everything in front of him.

Then he clinches it with a heroic pose. What's with the heroes-of-justice Supports in the Dark Lord's castle, anyway?

This is our second Ultra Curry Spice of the game.

Unlike the previous item, this Sage's Stone will be helpful when fighting Agon.

It took some time, but we're finally through the labyrinthine red halls.

We get one last chance to save and heal up before facing the final boss.

VIDEO: Facing the Dark Lord

This video covers the rest of the update. If you haven't been watching the videos in this thread, at least watch this one.

Hahahaha... hahahaha!

We finally reach the source of that hammy laughter.

I am the creator and ruler of this world! The Supreme Dark Lord, Agon! You've done well to arrive here, heroes! In recognition of your strength, if you ally with me, then half of this world will be yours to rule.

Wow, that isn't stolen from Dragon Quest's Dragon Lord at all!

Well? Will you join me?

Of course, we are valiant heroes, so we refuse.

Gero! You'll give me half the world?!

Goddammit, Keroro.

What the hell are you so happy about?! We're supposed to take over Pekopon!

We refuse to make ourselves allies of the Dark Lord.

If you join forces with me, we could rule this world for all eternity!

But we don't really want this world.

Yeah! Momocchi's house is way better than this place!

How about it, heroes? Join me in ruling over those pathetic fools... Our glory would truly be eternal!

...Wow, this guy's obnoxious.

No kidding... So Commander, mumble... Mutter mutter, won't see it coming...

...Hey, don't ignore me!

I've gone out of my way to offer you half the woaaAAARGH!

Keroro, Giroro, Dororo, and Tamama sneak-attack the Dark Lord to shut him up.

H... how dare you interrupt me...! Wha... what are you trying to...

Invading Pekopon is our mission! We won't let anyone else have it! And we won't let the likes of you stand in our way!

The final battle begins.

On Hard difficulty, Agon has 78,000 HP.

This is a good battle to save your Blazing Rise meter for.

Agon likes to cast Venom Gusher, which can poison whoever it hits if you haven't bothered with status resistance.

Of course, you can interrupt Agon's spellcasting and juggle him in the corner like any other monster.

He's also weak to ice, making Ice Dust a good thing to swap into Keroro's moveset.

This was my max combo for the fight, knocking off a little over 6,000 HP near the start.

But Agon won't let us chew through his HP so easily. He can teleport...

...Reappear in front of his target...

...And attack with the claws on his magic hands.

He immediately follows up with a big fuckoff sword...

...And a giant halberd.

After that combo, Agon teleports to safety.

He also uses the halberd in a separate charging attack that can knock out whoever doesn't guard it.

He's got a giant axe, too.

Spamming Supports is an excellent idea, especially if they work at a distance.

But with spells like Flame Cross, even staying back won't stop Keroro and co. from eating lots of damage very quickly. I used up most of my healing and revival items in this battle. If you hoard items, you will die, the end.

But as long as you keep piling on the damage in return...

...Even the Dark Lord will eventually fall.

The Keroro Platoon has done it. Time to sit back, and enjoy the ending.

Keh... hahahaha! I give you my admiration! Well done, heroes!

You resisted the temptation to rule the world, and correctly chose to fight me instead!

Just as I'd expect of my arch-enemies!

Gero! Your face... Are you a Keronian?

What?! The Dark Lord's a Keronian?!

Why would a Keronian be the Dark Lord of a place like this...?

Indeed. "Dark Lord Agon" is merely an alias. My true identity is the Keronian, Gemumu!

Hmph... You were Keronians sent to invade Pekopon as well, I take it. So was I. It all began decades ago... Like all of you, I came to Pekopon on an invasion mission.

...So that makes you, the Dark Lord... no, Gemumu, our predecessor?!

Yes... but, as a proper invader, I fell in love with Pekopon! Part of Pekopon's enchanting culture captured my heart and never let go! That was...

Gundam models?

No, you fool! By Pekoponian culture, I mean video games!

And so, I came up with an idea...

I'd seal myself with the Legendary Armaments, become the Dark Lord, and battle against the heroes who overcame my trials! It would be the best game ever!

To that end, I used all the technological power at my disposal to create this world. Yes! I play the role of the Dark Lord in this world... I built it to be the ultimate RPG!

Kururu is no longer the biggest nerd in the room.

But you said you came to Pekopon several decades ago, right?

So why did you suddenly choose to...?

But not a single hero has appeared until now! Not one! I prepared a transport device to summon heroes here from Pekopon, but nobody used it. I waited here for decades! Therefore, I gave up waiting for a hero to appear, and sent those three to undo my seal by gathering the Legendary Armaments. That's when you showed up!

THEN WHY'D YOU SEND ALL THOSE MONSTERS TO PEKOPON, YA GARBAGE JERK?!

Send monsters to Pekopon...? That device was meant to send heroes here from Pekopon. It wasn't programmed to...

Probably got so old it malfunctioned, or bugged out.

This world and Pekopon... interfering with one another...?

Heh... hehahahahaha! Fascinating! How very intriguing! In that case, I may be able to create a new world! I can unite the two worlds to create a new one! With the castle's seal undone, it's now possible!

Woah, buddy. Uniting the worlds...? You sure you really wanna do that?

Hmph... it's true that combining the two worlds risks the destruction of this one.

However, nothing can be gained without sacrifice!

Big brother!

"Those three" Gemumu mentioned crash the frogs-only party.

Brother, are you serious...? You're going to destroy this world...? You can't be...

You're lying... big bro! I just can't believe that!

It's no lie... You three are nothing more than my creations.

I shall create a new world, and reign supreme as its Dark Lord! You will be sacrificed!

Agon approaches the device.

Tch! Crap, he's goin' for it...

Gero? Goin' for what?

Once I activate this device, the uniting of both worlds will begin! This entire world will be transported to Pekopon, and both shall combine into one!

That sounds more like global telefrag.

I see... understood. Our beloved older brother has turned against us...

Ilinx! Mimicry! Let's protect this world! You are no longer our brother! Dark Lord! This is for the sake of the world!

What?! It... it can't be!

The energy orbs fly up to surround Gemumu, and the whole castle starts shaking.

With our three powers combined, even the Dark Lord...

...Can be sealed up again! Taaake this!

Rrrgh... When did you three become so powerful...?! AAAAARGH!

The energy crackles and sparks, and everything goes white.

Next thing the Keroro Platoon knows, they're back in the entrance hall.

Gero...? We're back in front of the door?

Looks like we were forced out when those three sealed away Gemumu.

Tamama notices something very important.

Aah! The door has more seals on it now!

It increased from three to six...

We're not going to allow anyone to ever open that door.

And here are the trashbag idiots who ruined everything.

We won't let anyone mess with this world, not even the Dark Lord.

Because this is our world!

As long as there are new Legendary Armaments, neither the Dark Lord nor that device can threaten us.

In order to perfect the castle's seal, we should make use of the world's power.

Sounds like a good plan! Later, heroes! Bye-bee!

The three sisters leave.

Get back here, dammit!

As long as the seal is in place, we won't be able to return to our world.

There's no telling what those monsters back on Pekopon are up to right now...

To undo the seal, I guess we'll have to go looking for those three...

But what should we do? I dunno where we're supposed to go.

Kukuku... don't worry about it.

I thought something like this might happen, so I made sure we had some options left.

Gero? Have you got a plan of some sort?

Just leave everything to me, Commander. First, let's head for the Hinata House.

Did I say this was ending? SIKE! We're only halfway through the story!

Artes/Skills learned this update:

Keroro
Flash Hornet: Keroro pulls out his pirate cutlass and does a bad imitation of Full Moon Slash. Has a chance to paralyze whatever it hits.

Tamama
Earth Quake: An upgraded version of Earth Shake. Instead of making just one rock spike appear, Tamama punches a bunch of them out of the ground for greater earth-elemental damage.

Giroro
Burst Limit: Giroro blows enemies away with remote bombs. Always with the ballistics.

Dororo
Venomous Jiraiya: Dororo summons a giant frog to breathe poison all over everything, with the possibility of causing the associated status effect.

Next time: Insert Disc 2.

Agonistic games are competitive. Like most sports, for example. Agon, alea, ilinx, and mimicry make up the four play forms, according to the French sociologist Roger Caillois.
