GDI Mission 4x and 4z (4b / 4wa & 4ea)

Three choices this time.

I'm going to refer to the alternatives as xyz, from left to right. This one is 4x (the game refers to the briefing for this as 4b and internally as 4wa)

Poland this time. 120,696.41 sq mi 38,588,000 pop in 1995. Can't find historical GDP data.

Background on the conflict

quote:

Sanctioned by the United Nations, the Global Defense Initiative has one goal: Eliminate multi-national terrorism in an effort to preserve freedom.
The Brotherhood of NOD, an ancient and secret society maintains strong ties with most global terrorist organisations.
Commanded by this man, known only as Kane, NOD's long term goals are unknown.
However, recent activities include expansionary behavior into disenfranchised nations, by volume investment in global trade markets, and aggressive manipulation of international mass-media.
These efforts are suspected to be funded by NOD's access to vast tiberium deposits.
Tiberium continues to confound the scientific community, soaking up ground minerals and soil nutrients like a sponge.
The end result of this unique leeching process creates the formation of tiberium crystals, rich in precious metals and avaliable for collection with a minimum of mining expense.

Tiberium info from the video:

quote:

Composition
Phosphor: 42.5%
Iron: 32.5%
Calcium: 15:25%
Copper: 5.75%
Silica: 2.5%
Unknown: 1.5%

Hazardous Gasses
22% Methane
19% Sulfur
12% Naphthalene
10% Argon
6% Isobbutane (sp)
2% Xylene
29% Unknown

Sheppard is away so we get a guest star for this briefing.

quote:

Delta Sierra Echo to Commander, approaching our next objective.
We're just crossing the Belarus border and we've got a problem.
NOD ambushed one of our convoys and made off with a good supply of activated pellet rods.
Sounds harmless, right? Well those rods are step one in slapping together a nuclear device.
We gotta get them back. Sheppards still offline so we're acting without confirmation but I'm betting this is too important to wait.
Take a small force into the Noddie camp and get those rods back before their birds can pick them up.
The rods are packed in transport crates, I doubt NOD's had time to transfer them but who knows.
Keep your eyes open. *makes clicking noise and gives a thumbs up* Give 'em hell.

This video doesn't really match the mission

We start off with this, but it's all we'll need.

You can load infantry into APCs but only one at a time (Red Alert fixed this though not in the best way).

We lost our humvee trying to stand and fight and ran out of time to load the APCs. Every time they turn to fire at an enemy it aborts the infantry loading sequence.

The trick to this mission is just legging it.

Of course it helps not to go down dead-ends.

And get stuck in them.

It's gotta be this way, right?

Yeah this looks promising.

Nope.

Let's try it again.

We get more troops loaded this time.

The humvee only barely survives. Units in red health move slower.

We've got a better idea which way to go this time.

Well... sorta.

The process of elimination means it must be this way.

It's alright, we don't need that humvee.

Rocket soldiers are painful.

As are light tanks.

It's fine though, you just need to touch the crate.

Victory. We got back the nuke and don't even have to extract it.

Greg Burdette reports

quote:

Burdette: War-torn Białystok, once a happy farming town (It's got a population of like 300k) for peace-loving peasants. Today, a slaughter house.
Burdette: Yet one more casualty in the insane GDI assault against mankind.
Burdette: Yet another in a series of villages wiped off the earth by the Global Defense Initiative and its mis-guided leader, General Mark Sheppard.
Burdette: And what crime did Białystok commit to warrant such carnage? Sources indicate that GDI terrorists were convinced that this simple hamlet was involved in the manufacture and shipping of tiberium.
Burdette: When will this madness end, only when General Sheppard and his vision of one world order is stopped.
Burdette: This is Greg Burdette, Białystok.
*cut to Burdette standing in a studio in front of a green screen* (possibly the one the devs used for most of the video in this game)
Voice off-screen: Cut.
*Kane walks on-screen*
Kane: Excellent. Now do it again in French and German.
*Kane turning to technician*
Kane: I want three hundred copies made and sent to every TV station in europe. We've got the satellite for another ten minutes.
*Kane noticing the camera we're watching from and drawing a gun*
Kane: Is that camera still running?!
*BANG cut to static*

100% efficiency this time.

Bonus alt-mission!

This is what I'm calling 4z but shares the same briefing and videos as 4x and the game calls 4b.

This mission actually matches the briefing, location-wise.

Different start but same units.

Same double buggy attack right at the start.

Here we go all over again.

Wrong way ugh.

Looks promising.

Shit lost an APC already.

Damn, well we know what way now.

Almost all the infantry into the APCs this time.

Much better.

Still got a tank to deal with.

A bit of foreshadowing for the next mission.

Zooooooom.

Winner.

Worse leadership this time.

New units!

APC Actually an M113
Cost: $700
Armor: Medium
Hit points: 200
Attack: 16
Speed: 35
Sight: 4

Light Tank Actually an M2 Bradley
Armor: Medium
Hit points: 300
Attack: 9
Speed: 18
Sight: 3

Next time
We see the third alt-mission, 4y (the game calls it 4a)
