Part 26: Go Home, Frog

Time for an update! But first, let me hunt down the game case...

...At least, I would if this were an older Tales game. And not on a cartridge. In Tales of Eternia, for instance, a new disc meant a new world.

Nothing new in the Hinata house basement, though. Let's see why Kururu wanted us to come back here at the end of the last update.

VIDEO: Base Under Siege

Well, we're back at the house... but what're you going to do now, Kururu?

He gets sirens in reply.

Uncle, we've got trouble!

Gero? It's a transmission from Miss Mois.

The Hinata house is currently under attack from an unidentified enemy! ...In other words, it's an emergency?

Gero, an enemy attack?! Are you okay, Miss Mois?!

I'm all right. But it appears some of the base functions have broken down. Because of that, you'll have to operate the shutters manually. Press the switches you find to alternate opening and closing the red and blue-lined shutters. The enemy is attacking as we speak, so please be careful, Uncle.

Roger that!

I've got stuff to do in the lab, so let's head down to the base.

This mini-fridge in Keroro's room contains a portal leading to the base proper. We were stopped from entering before, because we had a suspicious dark castle to investigate.

We're now free to explore it, though it's far from a friendly homecoming.

But it comes with a new second-half-of-the-game battle theme!

These Showy Snakes are actually a reference to the Japanese comedian Shopan Igari. Their original name, Snake Come On, is part of Igari's "Red snake, come on!" routine. Googling Igari will turn up a bunch of other media that references this act, too.

Here's the first of many shutters we have to mess with. Right now, the switch in front of it is blue.

So we change it to red to open this red shutter. In exchange, the blue shutters are now closed.

Looks like the intruders haven't been kind to this base. It would explain the moving walkways not working.

Naturally, all this damage is the work of recolors. Shovel Smashers and Wind Spirits are just two of the monsters making a mess of things here.

The portals leading to different parts of the base work fine, though.

Alternating shutter action!

Otherwise, this is so obviously a breather dungeon, it's not even funny. There was so much potential for base exploration, what with all the different rooms shown in the anime (shooting range, meeting room, mech storage, the top-secret doomsday weapon room, and I guess Dororo's garden).

At least we have new Artes to look forward to. Garuda Wing is Keroro's second Knight Arte.

"Attack straight up with a bird aura" is the only thing it does, and it works well enough. You can use it after you're already in the air, too.

Kero Rations are how the Keron Army keeps its soldiers fed. It tastes awesome...

...To humans. Keronians are so used to eating it that they don't really like it, though. When used, this recipe restores 40% of the party's HP, but lowers their Blazing Rise gauges by 5%.

Some rooms are so damaged, the lights don't work.

This switch didn't survive, either.

The new fairy recolor, Flurry, likes to attack with Crystal Bit.

More alternating shutter action!

The damage seems to get worse the deeper we go.

Not like that should scare this team of head-crushers. Dororo just learned Swift Slash.

He also gets his third and final Character Skill, Rapid. This allows him to recover CC faster than anyone else, and continue dishing out the pain ninja-style.

Dororo's Swift Slash makes a speedy V-shaped slice through the enemy.

It's easy to combo into other things, like Dance of Deceit, and give chumps a free ride to the top of the screen.

But Tamama isn't about to be left out of the fun, as he picks up Demon's Beat.

And Kururu gets Grav Grave, his second Knight Arte.

Demon's Beat is an upgrade to Hell's Beat. Tamama rushes forward, punches the enemy a bunch, and ends with an uppercut.

Grav Grave is Kururu's first nuke spell. He gets more. Yes, it's great.

Well, that's one way to get around alternating switch madness...

In this chest, we find a new Guardian. It's based off a Mobile Suit that was introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

The Full Burnern, AKA the RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam "Zephyranthes" Full Burnern, is an interesting Guardian. It increases HP, defense, and speed, but only has one Skill: Learning. However, it's a rare Skill that multiplies experience by 1.2, and stacks with bonuses provided by the difficulty setting, and other Guardians with Learning equipped on other characters active in battle. Plus, it doesn't tank your stats like the Ball does.

I hope this wasn't one of Keroro's Gunpla display rooms.

So much for this shutter.

The Beta ROM, a weapon for Kururu, increases his CC and Defense a bit. It's described as an improved version of the Alpha Rom, but still in need of adjustment.

Hey, it's another Space Creature! Little guy must have been hiding out here the whole time.

Here's what it looks like, in case anyone forgot.

But this critter's destined to be eaten. In the same room is the recipe for Space Okonomiyaki FX, and it calls for exactly one Space Creature. It gives less HP/BR than the Okonomiyaki GT recipe, 30% compared to 50%, but does less damage if it fails.

Also, someone put impressive effort into making an Earth version. oh my lord, they have the translucent versions of the Keroro In Action figures

But now the alternating shutters are behind us, as there's just one more door to go through.

VIDEO: Defend the Base!

Ah... welcome back, Uncle! I'm so glad you're all right.

I've managed to continue front-line base operations in this world...

...But the enemy was still able to sneak inside. Even so, I prevented them from destroying the base!

Gero... While we were on our journey, you were working hard to protect the base for us, Miss Mois. Thank you so much for everything you've done.

But the enemy assault hasn't ended. We can't relax yet. ...In other words, don't let your guard down?

Well, I'll be in my lab for a while. You guys have fun.

Kururu knows the exact right time to ditch these nerds.

While Kururu's working, we'll get armed and ready to face the enemy.

The submenu opens, and we get a chance to reorganize, and compensate for not having the guy with the best healing and nuke spells.

Oh, and Keroro was in reserve when he hit 40, but that's when he learned Brave, his third Character Skill. Brave increases his attack the higher his BR gauge is, meaning it's handy to have full as often as you can.

The game asks if we're ready.

Saying yes gets the sirens going again.

Uncle! A new intruder has entered the underground base!

They've infiltrated this far down?! Who in the world could it...

Heheh. So you've made your own little hideout down here. Just what kind of scheme could you be trying to hatch right under the great Mimicry's nose?

Th... that's...

I'm not gonna let you try to pull one over on us! C'mon out, everyone!

She summons three blobs. I mean, three sets of monsters.

Get 'em, boys!

The tense music remains unchanged as the consecutive battles begin.

But it's really nothing to worry about.

With all these Artes and Skills at our disposal, these guys are just fodder.

It's sad, but this is war!

It's just another chance for Keroro to spout ancient Gundam lines.

They line up.

We knock 'em down.

Your barrage is too light! Get it together!

Only one more to go, Uncle!

Keroro can't resist the Captain Bright quote.

All done.

Gero... is it over?

NWAAARGH! WHERE'D THAT STUPID BRAT GO?!

She is nowhere to be found. An exceptional escapist, as usual.

Yo. Have fun waiting?

Kururu! What the heck were you doing?! We've been risking our lives out here!

Keroro's mad he actually had to heal himself.

Ku ku ku... What're you talking about? I've been bustin' my hump to get everything ready for you.

Check this out, and try not to let it blow your mind. First off, boom!

This radar can track the faint energy waves given off by the Legendary Armaments.

And Dragonballs, apparently.

There's a new Legendary Armament at the location this arrow's pointing to.

Is that true?! That's incredible.

But it looks like we can't get to that place without a boat.

Ku ku ku... I thought you might say that, so I used the wreckage from our old boat, and... boom!

Gero?! Th... this is...!

I call it the King Kero Ship. It was a real pain to gather up all the odds and ends to make it. It controls pretty much the same as Captain Frog's ship. This one's a little bit smaller, though.

Kururu, this is amazing!

I'm not through yet. Last of all, a little extra boom!

The Support System has been upgraded!

I increased the battery size, and the amount of Supports you can assign.

A radar for the new Legendary Armaments, a boat, and upgraded Supports... I think I've done my fair share of the work. Right, Commander?

You're the best character, you smug fucking snake.

I have a present for you too, Uncle.

Got Mois's Charm from Mois! Mois was added as a Support!

Furthermore, I've discovered something while analyzing this world. Allow me to explain Mystic Keron Artes to you.

Instead of calling them Hi-Ougi in the Japanese text, they called them Chou-Hissatsu Waza, or Super-Special Moves. So I got creative.

In battle, if you press the L button while Blazing Rise is active, you can use a Mystic Keron Arte.

These particular Artes are very powerful, so use them when it really counts. ...In other words, they're ultra-strong?

Mystic Keron Artes, huh? Roger that, Miss Mois!

First, let's test out our new King Kero Ship!

In that case, the ship's currently anchored at the coast south of the Hinata house.

To the south, you say!

Let's set sail for the new Legendary Armaments!

Artes/Skills learned this update:

Keroro
Garuda Wing: Keroro's second Knight Arte. Attacks by flying straight up with a giant bird aura, hitting anything it touches.

Brave: Keroro's final Character Skill increases his attack power the more his BR gauge is filled. Combined with Pride, which gradually fills the BR gauge when Keroro is standing still in battle, makes him ridiculously powerful.

Tamama
Demon's Beat: The upgrade to Hell's Beat. Tamama beats the hell out of monsters, except better this time.

Kururu
Grav Grave: Conjurer Kururu's first nuke spell. Basically Graviga, but without the fixed damage, and with an earth element.

Dororo
Swift Slash: Dororo jumps up and cuts a V-shaped slice through the enemies. Quick and easy to combo with his other fast Artes.

Rapid: Dororo's final Character Skill allows him to recover CC faster than normal.

All five platoon members also learned a Mystic Keron Arte! They'll be shown off later, along with another very special feature.

Next time: Keroro and his merry men will ride this. ↓↓

He did say it was small...
