Gladiator, Match 1:Masked Madman Vs. Winged Wimp

Because surely a SCC run your second playthrough is an excellent idea! Right? ...Right? (Send help.)

Alright, you all know how this yarn begins, but I'll sum up this first bit for posterity's sake.
FFV's OPENING: THE SHORT VERSION

Visit the meteor,

Beat up on poor hopelessly outgunned Goblins,

(Don't forget the Phoenix Down for cashmoney)

Go east, beat up more goblins & save the girl (& old guy),

Then immediately turn on Gameshark codes to keep said girl and old guy dead.
(One may notice I haven't switched jobs yet. There's a reason for that.)

Then, conspire to steal a pirate ship,

Have the plan backfire horribly,

But fret not, as it all works out anyways!

This has been: FFV's OPENING: THE SHORT VERSION

Thanks for the offer, but I have a town to relieve of valuables visit!

But first, we have to make a little change. For you see, by the suggestion of MartianAgitator, Bartz will not be our one party-member alive for this run:

It's going to be Faris. After Bartz, Faris is the most available party-member, only being missing for one filler boss and the unwinnable first battle with the Abductor.

This is Faris' statsheet, taken a little after the first boss. Gladiators are tied with Monk for highest Strength and the marked advantage over Monks of being able to equip weapons without wasting their ability slot. As a matter of fact, Gladiators can equip every melee weapon, even the formerly Knight-exclusive Knightswords. Pretty good Agility too. Magic is as low as one would expect from a melee class, but that Stamina score is suprisingly low, clearly making the Gladiator a glass cannon.
The Gladiator's class ability (And my bread and butter during boss fights, especially early on) is Finisher, which does one of three things: fail completely, deal a bogstandard critical hit, or inflict an elemental attack. What makes the elemental attack special, however is the fact that it will always inflict 9999 damage. The only thing that can stop it is if the enemy is immune to or absorbs the element, in which case it will deal 0 damage or heal the enemy for 9999 health instead. Now, I can hear you saying: "I bet that the elemental attack has like a one percent chance, and the failure is half. Hehehe, it's gonna be fun to watch Sordas suffer." Well, you'd be wrong! Here are the actual chances:

Final Fantasy Wikia posted:

The ratio between failure, elemental attack and critical hit varies by job level:

Job Level 0: 37.5% chance to fail, 37.5% chance for Critical Hit, 25% chance for Elemental Attack.
Job Level 1: 31.25% chance to fail, 37.5% chance for Critical Hit, 31.25% chance for Elemental Attack.
Job Level 2: 31.25% chance to fail, 31.25% chance for Critical Hit, 37.5% chance for Elemental Attack.
Job Level 3: 31.25% chance to fail, 25% chance for Critical Hit, 43.75% chance for Elemental Attack.
Job Level 4: 25% chance to fail, 25% chance for Critical Hit, 50% chance for Elemental Attack.

Yes, you're seeing that correctly, not only does the elemental strike have reasonable odds, but by job level 2 (which won't take long to get to at all), it's what occurs most often!
I plan to cover the Gladiator's other abilities when I unlock them. Now, back to the game!

So, fun fact: Faris leaving the party here means that she can't recover her health at the inn until I do the Wind Shrine. This would be an issue, since Faris joined the party dead from the codes I have on and the Phoenix Down only restored a paltry sum of health, if not for the fact that the Wind Shrine has a healing pot on the first floor. On to the Wind Shri-

iiiiiiiiiiiiiii should have known this would happen the first encounter. Thankfully, Faris survived that encounter, and no other White Serpents had the smarts to cast Entangle, which brings us to...
MATCH I: THE MASKED MADMAN VS. THE WINGED WIMP

Now, just about everybody else has posted the script for Wing Raptor. I won't. Why, you ask? Well...

That one attack killed him 40 times over. I don't care if he has the most lethal, unpredictable script in the world, it doesn't mean anything if some psycho with a mask can trash him that thoroughly.

Unlike the others, I'll calling it here due to this being all that I recorded for this first session. Tune in next time for a particuarly infamous lobster. Once that one is up, this run will cover the same ground per update as the rest.
