Part 3a - GUTS

The life of a Blue Mage is a life of Learning, whether it be from fell beasts or from fellow solo adventurers.

When we last left him, Rock had cleaned up Siren and was heading to the nearest signs of (non-undead) life.

At least he was until he got a hot tip from a friend.

Turns out Calcruthls know Transfusion, but won't actually use it on anyone, friend or foe.

So after taking a crash course in !Control...

Rock learns Transfusion, which sacrifices the user to restore the HP and MP of an ally. He won't be using it, but what kind of a master Blue Mage-in-the-making would Rock be if he didn't learn everything about it?

Also, Rock Ganpp

After a small hike, Rock finds himself at Carwen. In the middle of the obligatory shopping spree for upgrades, there's a new !White spell available for cheap and ready for heavy abuse.

Word from the locals tips him off to a dragon-like dragon flying around the North Mountain.
Since the Wind Crystal's busted, Rock starts throwing Goblin Punches at flying cats in order to snag a sweet ride to the next kingdom over.

There's also Cockatrices that can cast Break which will oneshot you if you don't pay attention and fast-forward through the battle DEATH: 5

After Rock does some, er, rock climbing, some unusual enemies start showing up. Headstones tend to use Flash a lot (which can be learned by Blue Mages), except it'll never succeed due to their lack of MP.

Good thing Rock knows a thing or two about being prepared.
Flash has a chance to inflict Blind on all enemy targets even when Headstones are !Controlled, it'll target only enemies and deals no damage.

It also gives Rock some shades for his fight against Magissa. Rock's cool like that - since Goblin Punch isn't affected by blind.

Speaking of which, did you know that Silence is an incredibly useful, if not fun, spell?

Rock does.

Okay, now he's just showing off.

Magissa cycles through basic !Black spells only to have them blocked by Silence.. Apparently she's also studied up on one of the mainstays of !Blue, Aero.
Not that it matters - it deals decent damage to Rock, but he negates it with a casting of Vampire. On top of that Magissa cycles through spells at random, so it's not like she's constantly casting it while silenced.

But Rock's just biding his time. While most runs try to avoid him...

...(non-solo pure) Blue Mages will want Forza to appear. If you are doing solo pure, grab the Frost Rod in Carwen and break it on Magissa to keep her from summoning her hubby.

Not much to it. Even without casting Protect, Rock doesn't have much of an issue with handling these two.
The Iron Shield bought from Carwen and being in back row helps out with evading Forza's physicals, and the damage from Magissa's spells deal just enough damage to make Vampire worthwhile.

The only real threat is if Magissa casts Drain, which can be negated by - what else? - Vampire.

So the reason for ending the battle after Forza appears is because he's guaranteed to drop a Power Drink. Normally, they're incredibly useless due to the fact that they're bugged.

Normally.

Rock Walter.
