After melting that Iron Maiden we see there is another encounter right next to it.

It is a possessed stuffed polar bear. (There does seem to be an awful lot of possessed stuffed animals in the game.)

We aren't scared.

It doesn't seem evil but we'll try to banish it anyway.

Casting take 2.
We roll a 1 so we lose 1 hp but get to carry on casting.

Casting Success!
We swap our two 2 cards for... an ace, another 2 and Queen of Swords. Not great but at least we got a face card. Also we only had 2 non face cards so we got one of those cards for free without anything to swap for it. WE could cast the spell again if we wanted to but we don't need that many points to win.

We melt the polar bear and regain our nerves with +1 Sanity. We didn't need the spell to win although better safe than sorry.

We move from the blood stained art room into the reading room.

We find a 'scary' vase with a screaming face on it.

Fortunately we realise pottery isn't that scary at all even with ghost face on it.

Encounters like this are where I prefer to have a physical character if only because I like the idea of these 'powerful spirit jar' still being a vase that you can smash.

We however opt for magicing it.

We get such a poor hand, so I attempt spell casting but fail. If we only had 1 more pentacles we'd never fail this.

We fail pathetically only needing 1 more point and are beaten by crockery. We don't suffer any consequences luckily.

Second times the charm as we magic the vase into being non spooky and gain 2XP and and an Edge upgrade.

With the XP we got earlier there was enough to raise our wands to 4!

Next Time: When we get enough XP I'll probably go for another background as it might be worth buffing our physical stats in case we run into some awful traps or physical enemies.
