Last time: I received the Trident of the Red Rooster. This time: I descend to the Chaos Gate and beyond.

First, a quick correction. I said that the trident was a part of the Chaos Trinity. It is not, but is substituted for the real part, which I don't need.

This time I don't bother kicking the Crown and Medal of Chaos around. Instead I use teleport to jump from staircase to staircase instead of carrying them across levels as I head up to the surface then down through Darkforge and on to D:48.

I head to the Mana rift and activate the mana orb.

Rather than activating its special power, this prompts me to throw the orb into the rift. I do so.

For some seconds a strange silence fills the whole level.
Suddenly the rift disappears.

My power points are drained to 0. Throwing each orb into its rift has a special effect. Next I do the Water Orb.

For some seconds the air gets very humid on this level.
Suddenly the humidity disperses and everything is normal once more.

The humidity has a chance to rust exposed equipment, but by this point it's pretty much just my ranged weapons and ammo that are vulnerbale. None of them rust anyway. Next is the Air Orb.

For some seconds a roaring wind soars through this level.
Suddenly everything is silent and the whirlwind disappears.

This one does nothing. Next up is the Earth Orb.

For some seconds the whole level is shaking.
Suddenly the column disappears.

Nothing again. Finally, the Fire Orb. I'm gonna miss you, +10 Strength from the tool slot.

For some seconds the whole level is filled with an immense heat. You resist the searing flames. You hear a pained squeak! You hear a pained buzz! You hear a pained buzz!
Suddenly the level cools down once more and the bonfire is gone.
You hear a grating sound in the distance.

This one nukes the whole level with fire damage - I made sure to stow my ranged gear before activating it. The pained sounds were monsters on the level. The grating sound was the stairway switching to go downwards. There's no going back now. I head down to D:49.

The ground seems to be covered with a very slippery layer of ice.

D:49 is a long hallway with an icy floor. I try to walk on it.

The ice-covered ground is too slippery to cross. You sneeze. You resist the icy blast.

I can't get any traction on the ice and am unable to move. I also seem to be taking cold damage, but I'm immune thanks to the Trident of the Red Rooster. However, as I'm a drakeling, the cold still slows me down. I kick the wall to my east and the force propels me one tile to the west. Next I equip my three potions of uselessness in the missile slot and throw one against the wall.

The uncursed potion of uselessness thuds into an obstacle. The uncursed potion of uselessness shatters! You slide to the west. You suddenly hear a booming voice!
"*YE REALLY HAST FOUND A USE FOR THIS PETTY ITEM*
*YER INGENUITY SHALL BE REWARDED*"

Throwing or shooting items will also propel you along the ice. My god is stoked with me finding a use for the potion and rewards me with a random artifact. I get one of the best:

Very nice defensive stats for the neck slot, a good chunk of Willpower, paralyzation resist (useful against the ultra boss), and regeneration. The regen lets my replace my ring of regeneration with the Ring of the High Kings for some extra DV and PV. Unfortunately throwing the other potions of uselessness doesn't get me more artifacts, but they're worth collecting anyway in case one gets destroyed. Next I equip a stack of 75 sis and start throwing those to push myself around the level. As I do I get the tentacle mouth mutation again. This time I leave it. I eventually run out of sis and use a bow to shoot an arrow to propel myself the rest of the way.

I reach the end and head down the stairs to D:50.

This level is very strange... the walls are hard to see, everything seems to blur and you feel slightly dizzy.

I zap a wand of monster detection to see what's up:

Like the elemental temples, one side of the map is a randomly generated dungeon and the other has a preset layout. The preset half is populated with chaos mutants (cyan C), greater chaos servants (dark red C), writhing masses of primal chaos (purple j), chaos warriors (light grey C), chaos wizards (dark grey C), ghost lords (light grey G), balors (light red &) and Fistanarius the greater balor (dark red &).

The last four are the noteworthy ones, the rest are chaff. Ghost lords, like all ghosts, have an aging attack and can move through walls. They'll have a very hard time hitting me though, and I have a supply of potions of youth in case they do. Chaos wizards aren't especially threatening but will summon lots of chaff. Annoying and the time I spend killing their summons is more time I'm exposed to the high background corruption rate of D:50. That's not a bad thing though, I still need more mutations for the ultra ending. Balors can be dangerous for weaker characters but I'm well prepared with lots of demon-slaying ammo. They'll give me some nice experience, hopefully I'll be able to hit 50 from them. Fisty is a balor on crack, but shouldn't be too dangerous either. He'll die to slaying ammo like the rest.

I set up at a chokepoint and start chopping chaff. It doesn't take long until I hit level 49. I max Find Weakness but Cooking caps out at 99. FUCK.

Note that my speed is down under 100. This is from the cold on D:49, which took me as low as 24, but it is gradually returning.

I clear the first three rooms. Searching the third reveals a secret passage in the north wall. There's another to the south. These hidden passages lead to two levers which, if both activated, close the Chaos gate. Some of the monsters are smart enough to reopen it, so must be killed or the levers destroyed with a wand of destruction after being activated. Closing the gate and leaving the level with it still closed is how you achieve a normal victory. I have no intention of closing it, but will clear the side passages anyway for experience. As I do I get the maggot-skin mutation again.

Turns out I was gaining more experience than I thought and I didn't need to clear the side passage. I kill the first balor of D:50 and hit level 50, the highest level.

It wasn't a total waste of time though, as another secret passage leads to the main room of D:50, past all the ghost lords. They haven't come after me yet thanks to invisibility. The red and green 'w's are friendly worms that the maggot skin mutation has spawned.

I start pulling monsters into the side room. The balors can teleport and several pop up around me. I kill a few and Fisty makes his entrance.

Yeah yeah, scary description. I kite him, shoot him, and kill him.

With the balors dead I start pushing into the main room. The chaos wizards surround me with summons and I cut my way through, targetting the wizards and killing them one by one.

As I fight I spot the Chaos Gate. I'm planning to travel through it, but need more mutations to do so. For now I continue killing. By the time I've killed everything I've only picked up one more mutation (unholy aura again). I could just sit around and wait for background corruption to do its thing, but to hurry the process along a little I drink a potion of raw chaos. This gives me the tough scales mutation - +8 PV, -6 Dex, -4 Ap. I thought I had more potions of raw chaos, but it seems that was it. I'll just have to wait around. While I do I remember that I've been collecting rings to try a trick. I take my biggest stack - 11 rings of stun resistance - and dip them into a blessed potion of exchange. This changes them into an assortment of 11 random rings. Before the crowdfunded versions, they would all be transformed into the same kind of ring. Do this for long enough and with some luck you'd eventually get a stack of rings of djinni summoning. Anyway, let's see what I got:

Well that's not bad, not bad at all. Two more wishes. I'm not even sure what to use them on at this point. I settle on using one to wish for scrolls of defense. I get two. Welp. I use them both on my eternium girdle. One boosts it by 3 DV, the other fails. Least productive wish ever. Whatever. I have a look in the guidebook for ideas and settle on something which I'll do just before I enter the Chaos Gate. I equip the Crown and Medal of Chaos and wait.

It doesn't take long until I pick up several more mutations and the game informs me I am "extremely corrupted". I drink a bunch of attribute-boosting potions I've been holding on to. Boosters temporarily increase your attributes and gradually wear off. I follow those with 5 uncursed and 4 blessed potions of boost speed. This takes me up to 441 Speed. I then use my other wish to wish for speed. This permanently boosts base speed by one and adds a temporary 20d20 boost, which takes me up to 599. I'm bloated from drinking so many potions but don't stop to use acid spit to reduce satiation, doing so would take too long and my boosts would wear off.

A snapshot of my boosted statline just before entering the gate. This is without Ironfist equipped as I currently have thick gauntlets on so I could drink the potions with poison hands. Time to go! I step into the gate.

You face a gate leading into the Primal Plane of Chaos itself. Swirling colors intrude on your eyes and your mind. You easily resist the confusing sight. Do you want to enter it?

Suddenly you are surrounded by pure swirling Chaos.
For a moment you resist the swirling forces...
...before endless legions of looming horrors can fall upon you, your weapon catapults you into the depths of this terrifying realm!
You are now very deep in the realms of Chaos.
Suddenly you are surrounded by multi-tentacled horrors of unspeakable might.
Buzzing voices of pure terror collectively resound in your brain:
"*OnE oF uS, oNe Of Us!*"
The denizens of terror and chaos allow you to pass.
You venture even deeper into this strange and fascinating realm...

Suddenly a huge shadow looms over you.
You sense an almost almighty presence of a very sinister and evil force.
"Welcome, tiny mortal!
Or rather... lest ye be confused...
WeLcOmE, tInY mOrTaL!"
*snicker*
"It's almost surprising that you got this far.
So let me introduce myself.
My name is Andor Drakon and I am the supreme god of Chaos.
Once I was like you, therefore I know ambition.
It will be a pleasure to squash you like a bug, if..."
The huge form seems to scan you in some indeterminable way.
Suddenly the huge form seems to shiver!
"Uh, you got *that*?
AnYwAyS -- iT wOn'T hElP yOu!"
The huge form turns upon you with intense rage!
The environment changes to a huge landscape...

I find myself on the Chaos Plane. Again, pretty colours but no unique tileset. Laaaaaaame. I immediately remove and drop the Crown and Medal of Chaos - the background corruption here is off the chart and I don't need them adding to it. They got me through the gate alive and have served their purpose. I read all but one of my scrolls of corruption removal, enough to remove all of my mutations.

I zap a wand of monster detection to find out where Andor Drakon is. He's the black @ to my north.

There he is. According to Biskup he defies any attempt to describe him. I disagree, he's clearly a wizard with a goatee, hot pink shades, some mad bling around his neck, and tentacles for legs. Easy. Andy counts as both humanoid and demon and I have a big fuckoff stack of blessed humanoid-slaying quarrels with his name on them. I move out from behind the column and kill the chaos sister blocking my line of sight to him. He responds by casting darkness. I realise I left my wands of light behind when I ditched a whole lot of junk a while back, so I equip a blessed amulet of light instead. This means unequipping Preserver and losing paralyzation resist, but he can only paralyze in melee so as long as I keep my distance and shoot him I'll be okay. I fire a few shots, many of which miss due to his high DV.

He summons some writhing masses to block my line of fire but with my boosted Speed I can easily move around until I can fire on him again.

I fire more quarrels and gradually wear him down to "moderately injured" before he summons a bunch of chaos mutants. There's too many to maneuver around so I kill a few in melee. I've already picked up three new mutations since clearing the last batch. One I cured with a potion but the other two aren't bad ones so I hold off on removing them - I have one scroll of corruption removal and three potions of cure corruption left. Better to save them for stiff muscles and the like. I pile more quarrels into him. Son of a bitch is hard to hit and tough as hell. I finish my entire stack of 40 quarrels and he's still only moderately hurt. Fortunately I have several more stacks to fire at him. He's definitely been buffed since my last ultra ending, when he died to slaying ammo almost as quickly as everything else. Nevertheless, he can't do much to hurt me, at least at range, and shows no inclination to close to melee range.

It takes a fuckton of arrows and quarrels and I pick up several more mutations, but eventually he dies.

You hit Andor Drakon, the invisible ElDeR cHaOs GoD and kill him. The moment Andor Drakon dies huge energies are freed!
These energies hit your body and try to transform you...
...but your mighty weapon repulses them and turns them against themselves!
The corrupting energies are tuned into benevolent rays of cleaning nature and free your spirit and your body from all corruption!
Then you are suddenly pulled back into your reality!

The end!
