Chapter 18: Fighting Red.
I explain Xexat’s plan. He mostly wants to get in that castle still.
And the submarine passes without comment.
I want to pick up Time Slip in here, but I am in an awkward ability-space to do so. Lenna and Faris have Learning, but I would have to have them drop Summon or Blue Magic respectively until I got it. I suppose I could just flee until I get the right fight anyway. It isn’t like that is difficult in this game.
”Ecks-deff is here. Ecks-deff is here?"
“Not here, no.”
”Is bad guy castle?”
“We’re sneaking into one of the towers!”
“We’re going to the top of the tower to fight the bad guy who is making the red.”
”To get to Ecks-deff have to hit the red bad guy?”
”Hit Ecks-deff’s red bad guy.”
“They’re magicians dragons!”
”All of them magician dragons.”
These guys are pretty tough. Takes two full volleys of dragoon jumps from the party. Does wind do less damage to them? (No, I do not grind for reflect rings.)
”What that song.
“It’s the tower song.”
”And red guy blocking the castle away?”
“Is tower bad guy?”
“Is a tower bad guy at the top?”
”Uhuh
He likes the moon bad guy (”He likes moon!”) and calls the dude with the magnet a fox bad guy several times.
And I get time slip. I put summon back on Lenna after. I never really have to use it before the boss though. Jump barrages are pretty effective, if not super fast.
I get to the first chest and get THIS.
”Two dragons?”
“It is going to be a tough fight.
”He use hand? We need robot help?”
We manage but Galuf gets downed. They actually run through the Golem protection. They DO drop a coral ring. LOOK OUT SHINRYU.
”Get him back up.”
I do. Though I have like 6 phoenix downs. Ehhh.
”Now we up here?
“We’re up on the tower.”
”They’re not on the bridge?”
“No. It’s a tower.”
”Stairs.”
”Dragons! That was a big jump”.
”Why the all gone?”
“Because they all jumped!”
Where last one?
“He lands after the fight.”
The FF classic, the dragoon stuck in victory orbit.
”What they look like?”
“Like robots.”
”No! They’re like computers. Like funny computers.”
”Where where he go?”
“He’s at the tower in the basement.”
”Where elevator?” Does it looks like an elevator?
“The room is way down.”
“Down in that tower? Why? Why down?”
he’s trying to blow it up too from the bottom.”
”“No! Don’t go in there!”
“I just need to open this chest…”
“A trap!”
We win. It goes smoother because of the previous dry run. I was expecting the red dragon after all.
”Where was last dragon?” Again, these dragoons just do not want to come down to celebrate.
”And they were in there?”
I confirm. Also Dragoons cannot wear this. 
We make it to the next save point.
“Lets get ready for this fight.”
”It gonna be a bad fight? it gonna be a hard one”
“It will either be very hard or very easy depending on if I get this right.”
But we run into THIS bozo on our way to the antenna.
“He’s green?
“He’s green.”
”Yes.”
”He change color?
“No its a different guy.” I am pretty sure he is talking about the fact this guy is a palette swap.
We all jump, but as we come down green numbers start popping up. He absorbs wind. Ugghh.
“Oh we are HEALING him with these wind spears! Run away!” And I flee.
”That was so green. He’s got a green body. that was funny bad guy?”
“We’re at the top!”
”What’s that what’s doing? Magicians want to fight it.
“They want to fight it?”
Yes. I want the magicians fight them.”
”Whats he in?”
“He’s in the engine room.”
”Engine? There is an engine in here and that is the engine room.”
“That’s right!”
”Whys he in here”
“To blow it up.”
”Blowed it up?”
”That is bad guy? Fight that.”
“We will!”
”That tower bad guy? He biiiiig!””
“He makes the barrier!”
Atomos downs two of us off the bat and starts dragging them forward.”
RELAX ATOMOS!
“I put him to sleep!”
”They move forward? I want them both up.”
”He not have no face.”
“He sort of does.” I point out the bits, and that his mouth is the entire hole.
What proceeds is a pretty tedious, but risk-less fight. I summon titan until I am out of MP, spam level 2 black magic, use flamethrower and have Bartz toss Gaia. Death by a thousand cuts.
Titan does the most damage at around 8-900. Faris even gets a good hit in using Vampire right after getting a phoenix down.
”What in his hole?
“It looks like stars!”
”Has no shadow?”
Hey, yeah. He doesn't! I confirm.
”He did wiggly hit! Wiggly!”
He observes that it was in front of him, then behind him. He also calls the dock on a lake near our house a Wiggly. Presumably because it bobs in the water. He likes the word. This fight takes a long time.
We ping him down eventually, hit by 300-400 damage hit. He likes the crumbling boss animation.
The antenna starts exploding.
”We did here fire?”
“Because we beat Atomos.”
”And there was fire?”
“Yup.”
”He gonna be ‘stroyed?”
“He’s stuck He’ll be back though.”
”Why stuck?
“Because of the lightning.”
”Is he a bad guy?
“No, he’s a good guy.”
”He hitting badguy?
Language, please.
”He gonna be all gone?”
He seems aware of the danger to this sprite. I assure him that he’ll get hurt, but we’ll see him again. Because the afterlife has a pay phone you can use in FFV apparently.
”He’s in the bad guy?”
“No, it’s a room.”
”They all jump down!”
Most of the rest of this passes without comment.
“See? The tower is blowing up!”
”Now red be all gone? We can go in Ecks-deff’s castle? Go to the castle.”
“Soon, soon. We need to see a turtle first…”
He seems… skeptical. We call it for the day.
Well… Everyone’s learned jump. He likes these dragons. I know the second I upgrade all our spears he’ll turn us all into something ELSE though…
Next time: I probably shop offscreen at Moore, then find a sage?
