haha ok lets do nethack for real this time

I startscummed for a magic marker because last game I went through the whole fucking dungeon without finding one and had to blow a wish to get one, so nuts to that. Our rings are pretty garbage and the bonus spellbook of cure sickness sucks (a unicorn horn will do everything it does but better) but I can blank it and write a spellbook of identify later. When I feel like it.

I find a chest and kick the shit out of it until it opens. This usually breaks potions but luckily we didn't break any

because there were none inside We did get an amulet, a wand and a scroll though. Because I am not a noob idiot I will not put on the cursed amulet of strangulation/restful sleep/something nasty. It could be reflection or ESP or something nice but I think I can do without those for now.

A lamp! Possibly magic? I'll hold onto it just in case.

Here I eat a jackal corpse and become satiated. Because this abuses my dexterity (potentially making it go down, which I don't want) I stick my rings on. Rings make my hunger go up... uh, down? They make it go faster so I get hungrier so I don't stay satiated. Not really a huge issue, but it doesn't cost me any time.

I run into some boulders and use wizard superpowers to break them down

Level's basically explored so we continue on. There's not really much to do at the start of NetHack except die. All the interesting stuff will be on later floors.

I finally think to drink that potion of gain energy I've been lugging around. Also in this screenshot: a peaceful bat. These things aren't fun to fight, but we're neutral so it leaves us alone.

The writing on the floor means there's a vault teleporter two spaces above us, but I'm not ready to raid it just yet - I need a way to escape after I steal the gold.

I was gonna do two updates but this is already pretty short. Nothing happened on this level except that I found the entrance to the Dwarven/Gnomish mines. It's a low level area but still moderately lethal. Luckily we are a gnome so most of the things in here will be friendly.

See: the highlighted h, which is a friendly dwarf. Also barely visible to the left: a dark blue e, which is a floating eye. You can't hit them in melee, so it's lucky we're a wizard. If you eat the eye you get telepathy, which is a Good Thing.

smash mouth eat the eye

I kept missing the rock mole because apparently my wizard is an idiot... as shown by me attacking the mold and nearly dying.

There's uh... not much to show, really.

Me nearly dying, again.

...courtesy of this fellow, a member of Team Ant. These guys are extremely deadly to low level characters because they are fast and hit hard. I have to run away, again, and I can't really progress further down here until I get my act together a bit.

You know it's a great NetHack LP when the idiot running the thing has to pray to avoid starving to death

Not pictured: a nymph stealing a gem. I have trouble seeing the dark blue on the black, and it's not as bright as the screenshots. This is almost certainly going to bite me in the ass.
