Intro

Our first loading screen. OG2 has a different set compared to the first game, which makes sense given the new units. Not this one, though.

The siblings return to their transport, to Mizuho's great relief. Raul apologizes for getting the unit damaged, but she's just glad to see them both back safe. Raji adds that without the twins, neither the Excellence units nor their research would exist. Fiona responds that the same goes for the two of them.

The DC remnants have withdrawn, and with any luck they won't be back anytime soon. That still leaves the question of where to go now. The Peterson base is no longer responding to calls; given what they know, neither it nor Tesla Reich are viable destinations any longer. That said, they can't just fly aimlessly forever. Raji's planning to send out their unmanned Argent fighter; they can do some reconnaissance and, should worse come to worst, they won't be putting an Excellence or the Time Flow Engine at risk. With any luck they can make contact with the Federation military and merge with them.

Later, Raul asks Fiona why she thinks the DC remnants were after the Excellence. She figures that the adjustable frame system would give a notable increase to their armed forces. He asks if that's all, and she knows he's really thinking of the Time Flow Engine.

Theoretically, at least, the engine is a groundbreaking unit; it harnesses chrono-particles, which are generated by the passage of time itself. But what they have now is only a prototype, and requires an auxiliary plasma generator to even function - hardly attractive to somebody who's looking for efficient, renewable energy.

Fiona: "That's if they took it seriously in the first place. I mean, seriously. A turbine powered by hours and minutes?"
Raul: "Yeah. Everybody laughed at Father about it."
Fiona: "Looking at the prototype we have, even I've got my doubts."
Raul: "But if it's perfected... the Excellence will be able to travel beyond both time and space."
Fiona: "...You think that's what those guys were really after?"
Raul: "An endless energy source that you can take anywhere... a mobile weapon that can leap through space. I'd be surprised if they didn't want it."
Fiona: "We never announced that function."
Raul: "I know that. There's two people who've shown an interest in the Time Flow engine before now."

Raul: "One was Helios Olympus... Father's old contact at Tesla."
Fiona: "He's not there anymore, though..."
Raul: "And second, Lemon Browning from the Federation's Special Equipment Laboratory."
Fiona: "She offered to help us out once. Raji was suspicious and turned her down. But... what could either of them have to do with the DCs?"

Mission 2: A Wrinkle in Time

It looks like Raji's drone had exactly the opposite effect that he intended; it got the enemy's attention, and now they've followed it right back to the transport. Raul and Fiona head out to meet them, despite Raji and Mizuho's misgivings.

The unidentified enemies already have their orders - delay them until the captain gets there. Raul wishes they had the Flyer frames right now, since it's going to be tough to take these fighters down with the Strikers. Still, he and his sister both agree that it can't be helped...

Closing

It looks like we're in the clear for the moment, so Fiona and Raul prepare to make tracks.

But that's not happening.

Raul tries desperately to raise his sister, but she's not responding; the attack must have knocked her unconscious. But where did it come from?

Oh.

Axel: "Seiryu's Scale... it's got a real punch, and accurate too. Not really my kind of weapon, though."

Raji and Raul both recognize the enemy command unit; it's the Soulgain, a super robot that was under development at Tesla Reich. That answers any remaining questions about whether the Institute was captured. Axel tells his men to stand down while he handles things.

Axel: "Excellence pilot, do you read me?"
Raul: "!"
Axel: "Hand over your mechs. Including the ones on that transport."
Raul: "Wh... why would we give them to you, Divine Crusaders!?"

Axel: "DCs? Heh... Well, whatever. It doesn't matter who we are, your situation is the same."
Raul: "What!?"
Axel: "You have two choices. Hand over the Excellence, or fight. No negotiations. Comply and you won't be harmed. Fight, and the my next shot hits the cockpit."
Raul: "Argh...!!"

Raji: "It's over, Raul."
Raul: "Raji!?"
Raji: "We don't have a choice, we have to accept."
Raul: "But!"
Raji: "Calm down. We're outnumbered, and Fiona could be hurt. Staying alive is our first priority. If we're all safe, we can continue our research... from scratch, if need be."

Raji: "You said you'd guarantee our safety. Can we hold you to that?"
Axel: "You have my oath as a warrior."
Raul: (A warrior...!?)

But in the next instant something else appears on the radar, followed by an explosion in the nearby forest - shocking both parties.

And then something appears, and not any kind of mobile weapon that Axel recognizes.

"...Found. ...Utilizing..."

Excellence 2 and the UFO begin to resonate; the unit's time turbine is spinning up without receiving any input. Mizuho directs Raji's attention to the readings. At first he thinks Fiona's mech is leaking chrono-particles, but then he realizes it's something else entirely: the UFO is actively emitting them.

Raul: "Fiona's in there!"
Axel: "Good use of the situation - but it won't be enough!"

Yes, Axel. The little mech you just took out in one hit is more important than the flying space testicle that just appeared out of nowhere.

Raul: "What!?"
Axel: "I said not to resist. Well... then you should be prepared for this."

Fiona's still in the game, but not looking well at all.

Axel is caught off-guard enough for her to rush the Soulgain and ram it.

Fiona: "R... Raul... go on, get out of here!"
Raul: "I won't! I've got to get you out with me!"
Fiona: "It's... fine...! Just take Raji and Mizuho and go!"
Mizuho: "F-Fiona!!"
Fiona: "Hurry! My mech... won't...!"

Unit 1's output begins to rise steadily, with no sign of stopping. In its current condition, the mech won't be able to withstand the strain.

A moment later Raul's own machine begins to do the same. Raji yells for Raul to shut off the time turbine, but neither it nor the Excellence is responding to his commands.

Axel: "Ugh...! Why is it giving off so much power in that condition!?"
Axel: (Don't tell me... the pilot's trying to kill us both!?)

Mizuho: "Fiona, eject! Please!"
Fiona: "I can't..."
Mizuho: "Huh!?"
Fiona: "It won't take my commands... the time turbine won't stop..."
Raji: "Damn it! It's not taking my emergency override either!"
Mizuho: "Then remove the ET-OS' E-limit!"
Raji: "I already tried! It's completely out of control!"

Fiona: "M-Mizuho... do me a favor... my brother's a bit unreliable, so..."
Mizuho: "Fiona, what are you saying!?"
Fiona: "Raji... you have to finish... our research..."
Raji: "Not listening! I'm bringing us in, we'll get you out somehow!"

The power radiating from Fiona's machine and the UFO increases even further, while Raul struggles furiously to get some response out of his mech - even if it's to open the hatch and run to his sister on foot. He has no success.

(A mistaken existence... but even a mistaken existence... must seek the truth.... to know the truth... I must go... to the roots of the Creator... with this "key," I can now...)

Fiona's engine reaches its very limit. Realizing that it would be a very bad idea to stick around, Axel hits the thrusters and rockets as far away as possible.

Raul: "Fiona!!"
Fiona: "Raul, listen to me..."
Raul: "!?"

Fiona: "Once I'm... not around anymore... you've got to..."
Raul: "What are you saying!?"
Fiona: "Be strong... big brother..."

Raul: "Fiona! Fionaaaaaaa!!"

A flash of light, and when it clears, the strange UFO, the Excellence units, and the transport have vanished.

Axel: (Nothing on the radar. Did they really just disappear? Was that... a jump? That's why Vindel and Lemon had their eye on the time engine. But it doesn't look like it's any use for fighting.)

Axel: (That pilot risked her own life to protect the others...)

Axel: "...All units. The mission's a bust. We're going back to Tesla."

And the R originals were never heard from again.
