Once again, it's time to try and summon Demogorgon. I've never seen him in my previous games, and I'd like to beat his ass into the floor.

A confused lich reads a scroll of create monster, which creates a large amount of acid blobs. Harmless - all our gear is corrodeproof.

Orcus runs away again, and following him down I find a ring of polymorph control. High-level enemies will teleport to the up stairs if they get injured too badly, and will escape up them if you get close and they haven't healed. Pain in the ass.

A list of things we've identified - specifically, rings. I can polymorph to eat rings and gain their effects - unfortunately, I can only eat metal ones, and searching is not metal so I can't get that as an intrinsic. I can however eat increased accuracy and damage, so I know what to stockpile.

Refreshing spells. It sucks when they expire but it's not a huge issue, as long as this run doesn't start going over 80000 turns. No risk of that yet.

I polypile an amulet of magical breathing, which lets me breathe underwater. Might come in handy in an endgame area, though I've never been there and don't actually know.

Intrinsics, again.

Where's my Demogorgon

Orcus curses a green dragon, which also curses its inventory. This doesn't work on us because we have magic resistance/magic cancellation. I forget which. We're a wizard we don't give a shit

Orcus then fucks off again, and I have to go track him down. While searching...

yeah no not ready to tangle with you yet

I eat some food which turns out to be old, and get food poisoning. Very easily cured by either a spell or unicorn horn. If you don't have either of those, you're fucked, because you can't pray down here.

Hello, beastie.

Now... I would have loved to have eaten Demogorgon, which requires polymorphing into a purple worm and attacking him until he gets devoured. Unfortunately, he will not stay still - whenever I hit him in melee he runs away, and I need multiple successive hits to eat a target with defenses as high as his. On top of that, purple worms are slow, and catching him as one just isn't possible.

So... no eating Demogorgon. Maybe the SLASH'EM guy can pull it off. Sorry Angry Diplomat.

He won't even come close. Note just down and to my right, a hole. Holes are a huge pain in the ass because they give the demons a way to run away that isn't the upstairs (on which I am standing), making it even harder to track them down.

you better run boy

I don't need Orcus any more, so I catch and kill him. The least dangerous game.

Come here you fuck

A lucky probe tells me that Demogorgon is carrying a wand of digging, all the better to run away. I zap him with cancellation to negate it - he's enough of a coward as it is.

His illness attack. As above, I use cure sickness to get rid of it. He runs away again.

At last, I manage to corner him, and zap him with wands of cold until he keels over. Anticlimactic. I wanted to do this off an Elbereth square, but that would mean getting off the stairs so he can run away again.

I knife Asmodeus while I'm up here.

Back to dipping in the Quest lake for water potions to turn into holy and unholy water. To get holy water you usually have to pray on an aligned altar where you've dropped the potions - unholy, an opposing altar. You can get it much more easily by dipping a stack of water into a potion of holy or unholy water to convert the whole stack without bothering a god.

I killed Demogorgon without this item, but I may as well get it now. I double-dip a blessed scroll of genocide (I had a cursed one but I don't know where it went) and get it cursed.

Silver dragons have innate reflection, so no spells for me - time for another wizard knife fight.

Reading a scroll of enchant armor while wearing dragon scales will harden them into colored dragon scale mail. Silver armor grants reflection, so we'll be able to ditch our amulet for something else, like life saving. I won't be needing my life saved.

And I've been having absolutely no luck getting a cornuthaum, so I wish for one of those. As a wizard, I can safely enchant it while it is at +5, and it won't evaporate.

The end result: 46 defense, or an AC of -36. Basically untouchable.

Next time, we're off to shoot the wizard.
