Part 5 - The Deadly Path to Hakkipunki

Okay, so I've been trying to complete this mission for a while, and it hasn't been going well. I haven't reached the boss since that one uneventful attempt.

Thus, I decide that the correct approach is to create a farm of black jellies! I can totally just keep killing these guys until I hit max level, and there will be no downsides whatsoever!

Except then I learn that only the original black jellies give you experience. All the ones that spawn from the ground give you nothing but pain

Desperate, I decide it's time to flee.

It, uh, it didn't work.

Alright, let's speed things up a bit. I fail for about another 20 times, and finally managed to get a winning run with this attempt. It starts off well with an early freezing sword...

...encounters some more wisps, which take a toll on my HP while I desperately try to clear them...

..and even bizarro clogheads, which didn't really seem to do anything and die in one hit (well, two, but freezing made it feel like one), so maybe I'll find out what they do in a later area where there are more than one.

I finally make it back down to Rumakko's Lair, and my health situation isn't that much better. I did decide to level up Cleave and Shield Wall to two, not leveling Dervish. I figure I need as much damage output as possible to win.

I have lucked out so far in that I found a health potion right away at the beginning, as well as not being immediately cornered by the big frog himself.

Ah, there he is! Let's take the time and get rid of some of the other frogs as well so I don't get screwed by getting randomly pulled away during Shield Wall.

Wow, that's a lot of frogs.

I slice through them and even find another chest!

This one has a firewhip sword, which will be more useful than freezing for me against Rumakko, since it does more damage per hit.

My health isn't that good, but luckily a healing potion and full stamina should allow me to tank him down pretty quickly.

I use Shield Wall at first, then kite him around the L-shaped wall to get some free Cleaves in, just in case. He goes down relatively quickly after that.

As usual, my new villagers and rewards. This time I got a frog and an accursed black jelly.

:You've defeated Rumakko and carved a path into Ghostfen!
:Oh, Rumakko had a treasure chest? In his lair? Frankly, I'm not surprised. These boss types tend to keep their valuables in gaudy, gold chests. Open it up!

Oh hey, this seems interesting! Too bad I forgot to actually look at the descriptions before instinctively being greedy and choosing the jewel because treasure sounds cooler than pots. Oh well, maybe I'll find out what they do later.

:Rumakko was a famous collector of finely crafted things. So, did you notice how those swamp Mushrooms are sporting purple caps? How quickly they evolve! Too quickly, I fear, for their own good. I must go pop in to check on them! I will return.

With my hard earned and well deserved cash, I upgrade my health and experience points, which seem like the two most important to upgrade at this point. Let's go back to the main map and see what Sproggi has to say.

:The Mushrooms have arrived at Hakkipunki and are making their homes among the spider webs there. Please follow them!
:They near the grave danger that awaits them deep inside the fen.
:Follow them! Save them! Do what you can!
:Oh, and watch out for Mr. Creepy. He'll probably want to eat you. Farewell!

Well that's foreboding!

Okay, I'm going to give the Thief a fair shot this time, since it didn't seem like Warrior didn't help me out all that much.

The exploring turns out to be mostly samey until I run into this mushroom. By the description, it's a vampire mushroom! Also, some poison spider nests, but who cares about those.

I give it a stab, and it doesn't quite die in one hit, which is the first unique twist for mushroom enemies! The second being that it then manages to regain some life back by attacking me! I can see this will start getting more challenging/annoying when these guys start popping out at me in packs of 2-3.

There's also a purple frog over there! I can't quite tell what it does, but it looks healthier than the normal frog next to it.

I take advantage of leveling Hide in Shadows first to slip away instead of dealing with this.

This frog pulls me through the altar and on top of a chest; pretty amazing skill shot! I kill it quickly before it can celebrate.

The chest had a blinking cloak! Let's see what it does.

A 20% chance to ignore damage and escape for free seems pretty powerful! I'll take that!

I find the stairs down while on the run from a pack of vampire mushrooms who almost did me in.

The inside of Hakkipunki looks like more of the same, except I expect there will probably be more spiders. In fact, I'm betting that Mr. Creepy is also a spider

I pick up Juke on a level up to see if I can make it work, since that level 3 power seems really fun. However, my low health looks like it may say otherwise soon.

Case in point, this doesn't seem like it's going to end well.

I end up needing to take the long way around to get to the stairs, due to some monsters who wandered in behind me.

Damn you, mushroom pack!

Damn you, second mushroom pack!

I try to walk around with stealth, but I make the situation worse due to panic(I should have juked the right mushroom instead, looking back on it).

This is going to be a long swamp.
