7: All In The Execution

We're going to Warjilis!

It's nice and cosy, no battle when we enter despite being red, and we won't even get jumped when we leave it.

Though we do get another couple of great lines from Delita. Which is even better.

Meanwhile, the church is discovering that we've played them and they are so not okay with that.

Oh, and I think the high priest may just have pounced on a man and eaten him.

There's nothing of interest in the stores, but that's okay, wizard robes and hats are good for the foreseeable future. However, each town has a new quest.

We nail one, fail one.

Then we head on to the easy part of this chapter.

Agrias doesn't need much protection. She comes in at a high level (12 to be precise) with good equipment, and she has Holy Sword.

Seriously. She'll be fine.

Especially since this wizard took one look at the kind of damage Stasis Sword does and decided it was better for his health to pick on Ramza instead.

It was a very silly mistake to make.

Two characters start on the other side of the river. They're faced with one archer and one wizard, the latter of whom they oneshot. The archer won't last long either.

I had to catch Agrias with the AoE on this to get the knight, so I set them on fire, yo, since given the rain, it's the lowest amount of damage we can output. I'd happily down Agrias here so I can work in peace, but since it's a rescue mission, doing so would result in a game over.

Fucking rescue missions. My characters know better than to die the moment they're knocked down but these assholes? No countdown for them, that would be too easy.

And here's Bolt 3! Bolt 3 is a bit slow to cast, but pretty fucking sweet if you can pull it off.

I'm not going to let anyone fuck me out of crystals this time. Agrias, go stand in the corner.

Gonna take care of this last remaining knight, too...

Alfador gets caught in the AoE, but eh, we've more than enough methods of murder available to us once we actually want the guy gone.

Please be something good.

And score! Two second level spells, just what we need right now!

Can we get something just as good out of the other guy?

This one wasn't a wizard, so I wasn't expecting much.

...

Well, fine.

And thus we end it.

So our destination changes yet again,

...but not before we pick up our reward for beating this map: Some weed,

...and a Holy Knight.

Agrias is one of the better units in the game, too bad we can't use her.

And now for the other half of the update.

In preparation, Alfador picks up a Frog spell he'll never use,

and one of the oracles gets this, which will also not see use.

Oh boy.

Golgorand is another infamous chapter.

See, you have to fight Gafgarion again,

and this time he has a lot more, a lot tougher friends, you don't get Delita to help murder them, and you can't even strip him naked beforehand.

We start split up again, two under the bridge, rest up in the corner.

Gaff has a nice sword on him that you might want to steal if you, you know, have anyone who can steal things and use swords.

But we don't. That's a relief, at least. I always feel compelled to grab the thing even if I'm never going to use it.

Our units' levels range from 7-9. The enemies' levels go from 14-16, and Gafgarion is level 17. They all go before us.

Oh, bullshit.

Time mages!

I like this confrontation between Ramza and Gafgarion, but the rest of the fight is kind of nerve wracking.

The knights have tons of health and we can't take their damage. I'll try to delay them a little. With luck, I'll get both, but I should get one at least.

Fortunately, Stop doesn't cast quickly, so we can do this before it goes off.

The other one got off Slow, but ate some lightning in return.

Shit, missed one.

Yes, yes, quite! It's kind of unfair, actually!

Down goes Ramza.

But we've got some good damage going here!

Alfador survives to Phoenix Down Ramza.

Time mage misses herself with haste. Maybe we can win this.

She's still alive!

uh

uhhh

No, no we cannot win this.

Let's try to minimize the damage we take from the knights before we can even fucking move, shall we?

Of course there's no avoiding Gafgarion, but he hit someone else this time!

...They can't hit us, but he does ~25ish damage to the generics with this. No procs, at least.

This time we eat Don't Move instead of Slow. It's... probably worse.

Still in a good position to nuke the idiots above, though!

I don't want to see another Night Sword, so Gaff? Shut up.

It turned out not really necessary, but I wasn't sure how much damage I'd be able to pile in on them before their next turns.

Less now that I've been fucking stopped!

But Bolt 3 turned out to be a good investment.

That was fast!

We're not out of the woods yet, though.

Okay, this has a really low hit rate, don't you fucking dare.

I'm not sure if this was necessary either, but I nailed the archer with this. The knight evaded. It's fine - knights are mostly harmless once they run away, but archers can still snipe you, and with wizard HP, that can be kind of troublesome.

Good!

That means he can finish casting Bolt 3 on the assholes below.

and then he gets stop-proc'd by fucking hell ivy are you shitting me

Not that it matters, because then he gets arrowed and dies. But the time mage whiffs another low-hit Don't Move, which would pretty much have lost me the map if it landed.

I don't think they'd be much trouble at this point, but I have to kill everything anyway, so enjoy being on fire, yo.

Still alive!

Tried to Don't Act the archer, missed...

But my mage managed to PD the oracle before she could expire, so at least that's something!

Don't move is annoying, but even if it lands, I can get Ramza in a decent position before it goes off - shouldn't be a huge problem.

Stick to the face! This time mage only has like 50 FA so she's resilient to spells, but you don't have to believe in the stick. The stick believes in you, and that is enough.

Expected, but still annoying.

More importantly, I got off the Don't Act on the archer right before she Charged someone squishy, so that's nice!

A Bolt 2 is barely enough to finish the time mage, but it is enough.

...but now we're on a short timer. Only the black mages have Item, no one else can revive, and I've two dead units - one who's been down a while.

I don't have time to grab this - may not have time to win the fight at all.

But it turns out my positioning was good, so Ramza can just reach the archer with a spell!

And since the knight was wounded, one oracle can bolt him...

...while the other finishes the archer.

That was... far too close for comfort. A single status activation at the wrong time could have fucked the entire run. But it's not too bad, winning it at these levels!

Meanwhile,

life shits on Ovelia some more.

But there's little we can do about that right now. Next up, Lionel Castle, the final confrontation with Gafgarion... and then, him. That should be fun... or inspire some kind of emotion, at any rate.
