Oh.

Kusuha: "Thank goodness... no fractures, just some minor bruises."
Ibis: "I've crashed a few times during training. I guess you could say I get a lot of practice?"

Sleigh: "Yes, it's quite spectacular, really. Maybe we should call you the Shooting Star?"
Kusuha: "That's mean of you..."

Fun fact: the word for "shooting star" in Japanese is ryusei (流星). Suddenly Kusuha's reaction has a whole other dimension!

Ibis: "Don't worry about it, Kusuha. Sleigh came to see me because she was worried about me, after all."
Sleigh: "I just want to get back to my training, Number Four. Hurry up and get better. I want to try out the new linked data we gathered for the Calions."

Ibis: "...Sleigh, did you hesitate at all when the time came to fight?"
Sleigh: "No... well, that's not really true. But I had to do it, so there wasn't any other choice. That's all there was to it."

Sleigh: (Right... for my brother's sake...)

Sleigh leaves the infirmary. Kusuha finishes tying Ibis' bandages, telling her to keep her spirits up in the future. Ibis seems to have taken this to heart, and is prepared to do her part alongside Sleigh and Tsugumi to pursue their dream together.

Of course, the get-well cake that Tsugumi brought her will help with the high-spirits part. Belatedly Ibis realizes that she should have split it with Sleigh. Oops. Oh well...

---

Tsugumi has finished her report on the runaway mech. It was due to human intervention - in other words, sabotage. Somebody accessed Tesla's host computer and rewrote the Grungust's firmware. Jonathan observes that this sounds like a skilled hacker. They'll have to do an inquiry into the incident, to be sure...

...Though Tsugumi says that no inquiry will be necessary. In fact, she's certain that there's no risk of a repeat of the event, because the saboteurs have already achieved their desired result. Jonathan suspects that she knows who the saboteurs were, though Tsugumi denies it.

Filio asks how her first combat experience was, and she confesses that it was pretty terrifying - but she shouldn't stand by while Sleigh and Ibis are the ones fighting, should she? Project TD is important to all three of them, and even though she's not a pilot, Tsugumi is prepared to fight to protect it in her own way.

Tsugumi: "Dr. Kazahara, I'll leave the search for the saboteurs to you."
Jonathan: "Fair enough."
Tsugumi: "Then if you'll excuse me, I need to oversee the Calion's repairs."

Rishu: "The young miss seems to have seen right through us. Jonathan, I think your manner gave us away."
Jonathan: "Hey, now. If that was enough to tip her off, your acting must have done the job first."
Rishu: "Don't be ridiculous. My acting was beyond reproach."
Jonathan: "Nothing to be ashamed of. With the stress of riding a Grungust for the first time, I'm sure it's entirely understandable..."
Rishu: "Rgh... That's a rather sore spot for me, thank you."

Filio: "...Perhaps we should focus on making use of the data we've gathered, as quickly as possible?"
Jonathan: "And harvest the fruits of our labors, you mean."

So not only did you just scare the girls half to death with a staged life-or-death situation, but it turns out that this was a filler episode. You three are dicks.

In light of recent events, Filio has started to worry that he's sheltering Team TD too much. Ibis was afraid to fight, Sleigh would do it just because she was ordered, and Tsugumi was too far removed from the action to understand what the other two were going through. This exercise was meant to provide a dose of reality, in other words - giving them the understanding of one another that they had lacked. There will be many challenges in Project TD's way, and the time will come that they'll have to fight to protect it.

Rishu: "Still, this all seemed rather drastic to me. Ibis could have been seriously injured; what would you do then?"
Filio: "...If it came to that, I'd ask her to give up on her dream of flying through the galaxy."
Jonathan: "Filio..."
Filio: "She still lacks experience. As things are, she'll lose her life long before she achieves her dream. She needs to cultivate the will to overcome."
Jonathan: "I understand, Filio..."

Filio: "Dr. Kazahara... I've come to doubt myself as a scientist. But I have to see them through the fighting to achieve their dreams."
Rishu: "They need to be forged a little further, you're saying."
Filio: "Yes. While I live... my one goal is to see that done."
Jonathan: "....."

Filio: "Dr. Kazahara, Master Rishu... should anything happen to me, please look after them."
Jonathan: "Don't talk like that, Filio. You have your own dream to achieve."
Rishu: "That's right. If we're going to give help, it'll be to achieve your goals."
Filio: "Thank you..."
Jonathan: "This is a dream for all humanity. If there's one reason we have to live through this fight, that's it."
Filio: "Yes..."
Jonathan: "Then we'd better get to work. For the people of the future..."
