That same XP (Cross Points, because it's Project Cross Zone, because yeah) can also be used to revive characters. You might ask "What's the point of using XP for a bit of extra damage when I can effectively never lose?"
That's a good question. It's because it will make the game longer, and you don't want to make the game longer.
Just get near a downed ally and press Y with 100+ XP. All better now.

If you attack with another ally next to you, you get a special, free attack.
Basically, hit the target the same time as the support attack and it will lock the enemy in place, making some combos possible that otherwise wouldn't.
Second benefit is that your XP maxes out at 100% during solo battles, but a crosshit allows it to move up to 150%.

Here's an example of a Cross Hit going on.
Defensive options also cost XP. Counter does piddly ass shit damage. Defend is the best cost-effective option when bosses attack.
Street Fighter Spam
Bosses and certain elite enemies have barriers that prevent any juggling or damage until you break it. Support attacks usually break it by themselves, so you have to choose between Cross Hit XP boost, or full damage.
Other thing is thta if you use all available attacks once without losing the juggle, you get a bonus attack. Basically, learn your combos.
