For a medium mode choice, we have the happy crocodile. A very weird choice due to its focus on Physical attacks, which doesn't really help it all that much, but at least its moveset reflects this, having only two STAB moves, though a couple moves it might want can only be obtained via breeding. I won't talk about breeding much in these analysis, since obtaining the best moves for your newly hatched Pokemon is not something you'll be doing in regular play. You weirdo. Regardless, while it works off the weaker attacking stat, using STAB and the occasional Ice move is very recommended, since it covers a lot of types and is quite convenient overall. A mixed variation is the best use of this Pokemon.

There aren't too many Water type options, but it does take a little while to actually learn a Water move. It also evolves later than any other starter so far, so it can be a little tricky to stop from falling behind, but it'll evolve when it needs a nice little boost and it'll quickly come into its own when it evolves further. Again, smart use of TMs is useful since it might have competition with some of the better ones, but while this might be an overall mismatch of stats and moves, it still works well enough to be a useful team member.
