This cute little shrew is geared in an effective way, focusing on good Attack and Defense at the cost of bad Special Attack and Special Defense. It also doesn't have an amazing movepool until it gets Slash at level 23, but it's got a few usable choices until then, mainly the TMs we pick up, but for your physical attacker, it's a solid choice. Just make sure to keep it far away from any kind of Special move. Which is fine, since as far as I can see, it can't even learn any Special moves. You'll also be waiting a while before you get any STAB. Sorry, I should say good STAB, since Mud Slap is not that. But if you focus on one side and one side only, it'll work great.
