Hello, I'm Golden Battler, and this is Koumajou Densetsu 2: Stranger's Requiem. It's a fan-game that was released at Comiket 79, by a group called Frontier Aja. It's notable for being at the quality of a professional game, including having voice acting for all cut scenes, as well as an in-house English (and French) translation.
Kouma-wha?
You can just call it Touhouvania 2. Most people do.
So this is a sequel? What about the first game?
The first game (Scarlet Symphony, if you were curious) was... well, for a fangame it was pretty decent. I don't enjoy playing it very much though, so I'm skipping it in favour of this game, which is excellent.
B-b-but what about the story? Think about the continuity!
Don't worry about it, the story in the first game was pretty light.
Basically, a vampire named Remilia Scarlet had her head maid, Sakuya Izayoi, build her a castle. This was no bueno, so a shrine maiden named Reimu Hakurei set off to beat her up. She was joined by a magician named Marisa Kirisama, and an ice fairy named Cirno. When they reach the top and find Remilia, they find out that she read a book that said that there was treasure at the bottom of a red castle, so she made a red castle herself in hopes of getting the treasure. After being confronted about how retarded that sounds, she challenges the heroines to a duel anyway, because why the hell not. Then there's an Extra stage where they beat up her insane little sister Flandre.
That's about it.
If I like Castlevania, will I like this game? Do I need to know stuff about Touhou to enjoy it?
To the first question: Probably. This game plays closer to the older Castlevania games (it's not a Metroidvania) though it has its own unique features to make it different.
To the second question: Probably not. Having some knowledge of where the characters come from can further your enjoyment of them, but it's hardly necessary. The plot of this game has some parallels to that of the 7th Touhou game, Perfect Cherry Blossom, but they don't run nearly deep enough to be required reading. For the most part, you can just take the game as it is.
So how's this going down?
I'm going to be playing through the game on Hard mode, and I'll be aiming for no deaths (no promises though). I'll probably be asking kloudtana to join me most of the time since I'm a boring person solo, but if anyone else wants to guest, ask away. There will be versions of the video with and without us talking over cutscenes.
As for an update schedule... I dunno. I'll probably toss a video two or three times a week. This isn't a super long game, so it won't be a super long thread. Still, I hope you enjoy it!
