Ah, Patty, Patty, Patty. First of all, there's actually another Patty in a certain other SNES game called Breath of Fire II. Guess what? She is ALSO a master thief; a phantom thief, in fact. I don't know if that's an indication of "Patty" being a popular name for thieves in Japan, an indication of "Patty" being a popular name in general in Japan, or just one freaky coincidence, but...there you go.

Anyway, Patty...well, there are two different ways of looking at her. The first way is the way I look at her for the purposes of this specific AAAA Ranked run; and the second is the more accurate way of looking at her.

Basically, there are a LOT of things that change because of the way I did this playthrough. In my playthrough:

-------------------------------------------------------

1) I am trying to get an A Rank in everything; and there are still plenty of guys who need more money for the Elite Ring.

2) I already gave her the Bargain Ring, so that she COULD do what Dew does.

3) I gave her Holyn as a father; meaning she has instant access to the Uber Hero Sword!

-------------------------------------------------------

So in my playthrough, she is going to be indispensable. Patty will obliterate every Arena she goes into, will always have access to the Elite Ring, will always have access to whatever other items she needs, and will be spitting money like a shaken-up soda bottle. In other words, I've set her up to be one of the most useful units in all of Gen 2.

However...that is not usually how things will go for her. You see...she is not usually quite as good as Dew was. Where Gen 1 had you scrambling around trying to set everyone up with the right parents, the right bloodlines, the right skills, and the right items to pass down...Gen 2 kind of has most of that taken care of. By the time Patty comes around, Dew has already done most of the important stuff.

Compounding that further is the fact that she does not automatically get Bargain, like Dew does. Unless he happens to be or father (or unless someone else passes down the Bargain Ring to her), you will not be able to control how much money she gives someone; and that there was half of WHY Dew was so good to start with.

Besides that, she...tends to get worked over by the Inheritance system. For starters, she inherits items from her father, instead of her mother; yet, her growths are still mostly decided by...her mother...Briggid.

Now, Briggid was great at a lot of things. She had Major Holy Blood, she had a Holy Weapon, her Sniper class had the Pursuit skill, and she started out with promoted bases. Those are all good things to have.

Her growths, however, were...actually pretty bad. And her growths are the only things she ended up giving Patty. The Holy Weapon, the Major Holy Blood, and class all went to Patty's brother, instead. In other words, Patty got all of her mother's bad points; without any of what made her good. Among other things, it means her SPD growth won't usually be much higher than what Dew's was. And unlike Dew, she does not start with 16 SPD. Instead, she starts with only 10-11, assuming her parents were fully leveled.

Furthermore, Gen 2 is pretty rough in comparison to Gen 1. Where Dew got a whole chapter of weak axe units to grind off of, Patty finds herself immediately staring down a platoon of Dark Mages and Swordfighters. She doesn't even get any terrain bonuses, either. Shanan is quite literally the only reason she lived through this update; and unfortunately, the enemies aren't going to get any easier from there. Not for her, anyway. So where Dew came at basically the perfect time, Patty arrives at a particularly bad time; and isn't even that good to boot.

For those reasons, I would compare her to Pan. She forces her way into the group, is determined and strong-willed, and has all the potential in the world...but almost never gets a break. She's mostly given opponents that are way too strong for her, always needs to be rescued, and just starts too far behind everyone else. But under the right circumstances, we know she could potentially become the strongest of them all...

If only things were different...if only...
