Update 12: Defender

Day 1

The vote turned out in favour of the mirror image spell. Let’s go play defender of the crown or I think the sorceress guild would prefer tiaras.

“No problem ma'am.” Let’s get to the castle!

Wait, this is the wrong castle. Still, that was a fun game as well.

Much much better. Wait a minute, are those dwarfs? What did I tell you about being careful! I can’t always be there to save you guys.
Anyway, note that to offset our well-built castle we have much fewer resources than usual for the start of a game.

Sweet, spells!

There aren’t too many resources, but at least I have two heroes. Luna has the mirror image spell that we selected. Meanwhile a second hero has a unique portrait. He must be important!

Lord Halton is a powerful and high level knight hero. He’s level 4 and his levels went to his attack and defense. Meanwhile he has a white pearl of wisdom boosting his spell power and knowledge with 1 and an endless sack of gold.
The 5 genies he comes with are icing on the cake of battle readiness.
Lord Halton also looks decidedly evil if you ask me. It’s probably the horns, the dark sky in the background, the purple hair and the facial hair. Other than that he looks like an upstanding member of society.

We also have a village and with the right resources we can upgrade and double our Phoenix output.

So I have a plan. The game was pretty clear on the guys overseas. So let’s have Luna try to summon a ship. She can then get the genies, rangers and sprites and hopefully take them out before they become trouble. Lord Halton can stay here and use his mighty muscles to boost the performance of the sorceress units.

He looks happy with his new army.

Day 2

Halton visits the Gazebo and remembers that he, unlike me, received estates from Roland.

We first visit the Buoy to get some morale and immediately spot a poor sap clinging to a log. He presents us with the lucky rabbit’s foot.

An important message in a bottle.

We also visit the building in the water to the south of the previous screenshot. This is a Magellan’s maps. He sells cabbages maps. I purchase one.

Buying one makes all of the water visible on the map, which in turn allows me to locate the enemy. They’re apparently barbarians. Annoyingly, I already spent too much money so I can’t get a third hero yet. I buy a cheap well back home and call it a day.
Magellan must have been really near sighted that he literally couldn't see anything expect the outer edge of the land.

Day 3

The miller just gave me some lumps of coal and sent me on my way. Who does he think he is? Santa?

Mmmm, let’s fix that.

The thieves guild doesn’t give much information.

But this looks very promising.
Also note that we’re probably sailing in one of their boats.

That’s certainly something. Apparently Halton has a rival and considering the thieves guild didn’t change following this message that means that either he is notoriously weak or he’s using Rialdo’s mug shot. We'll burn that body when we get there.

Day 4

Suddenly ogres! And I will stare at them menacingly from just beyond the gate while I catch my breath.
There’s also a hero on this island, but let’s ignore him for now.

I hate the swamp so much!

I really wanted a barbarian, but only Carlawn and Mandigal were available. I picked Carlawn because I like her. We upgrade her dwarves, give her a whole druid and off she goes.

Using the road she visits the witch’s hut near Halton to find out if it has pathfinding. It didn’t.

Day 5

There he is!

Let’s finish this first.

Done. I think the genies were overkill.

New castle for me. Welcome to Sheltemburg, obviously a paradise and not secretly controlled by crazed guardians.

And according to this intel this was the only castle they had, so they’ll probably want it back.

Let’s visit the gazebo. Green will probably bolt into the castle to retake it allowing me to easily take it back.

Carlawn visits a half sunken sign. Why do you guys live in a swamp? I don’t think unicorns like it there and it’s a pain to construct towers in…maybe the humidity keeps the phoenix from burning everything to the ground.

Carlawn is not equipped to fight green dragons.

A dignified retreat.

Day 6

Tsabu also has genies. Let’s DMCA him!

I guess he has a pendant protecting him from blinding spells.

I hesitate, between the wolves and the genies. The genies can fly and have a very dangerous specialty, so I decide to attack them first. Also, I cast mirror image.

The wolves overkill my genies badly and a quick look at Tsabu tells me why. 6 Attack is nothing to scoff at.

The mirror image hits as hard as the real deal, but dissipates after a single attack. Still, they did plenty of damage.

The much sturdier sprites take over.

I cast magic arrow on the wolves, followed by the rangers and the genies killing the wolves. From there the sprites finish the orc chieftains. Now time for my reward.

The mirror image also counts as losses.

This will make scouting the seas very easy as it adds extra movement at sea.

A flail to boost attack.

And the blind blocking pendant.

And now we wait for the next one.

Oh no zombies! Let’s use the holy word.

“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”

And the sprites finish the job.

Halton meanwhile spots a laboratory that I really want to have.

Day 7

Get over here!

We will not chase those rogues.

We need gems to feed our unicorns.

Finally a sawmill. I’ve been stuck without wood for a few days so I haven’t been able to build anything.

Day 8

New week.

Finally Jojosh is in range.

The genies and sprites lightning bolts are more than enough to kill everything. Though the ranger arrows helped a lot as well.

This doubles the effectiveness of resurrection and animate dead spells, it does nothing for mirror image.

Happy day! Pathfinding!

Bye green! Now to take their stuff to bolster the mainland forces.

More wood please. After she flags everything she’ll probably get to go sailing again.

Really guys? Now I have to save you from the swamp as well? :nall:

More gems of the non-hero kind!
Using the wood I now have I build two market places.

Day 9

I saw a lot of movement along the coast and are those legs I see?

Sure guys, the “alliance”.

That not-Rialdo guy is strong.
I don’t build anything because human needs wood badly.

Day 10

It was an enemy hero and worse, it’s Ector. The strongest hero yellow has. Let’s get him.

But first some learning.

This guy is really strong.

Too soon guys. I blinded his archers and let them come to me while I pelt them with peas.

We also cast disruption ray on the pikemen. They currently have a defence of 15!

Go sprites!

The defence is failing to protect the archers.

And this mighty swing is the end of my druids. This guy hits hard.

The archers woke up, so the sprites go and cover them.

But this battle is lost. I have no chance of winning when his attacks kill 2-3 dwarf per attack. I need to regroup and stop this guys... quickly!

I lost a lot of units.

And we’re back. I want ponies, but I lack wood. Halton has to stay home to get his spell points back. The spells will be needed to take care of Ector.

Carlawn scouts and picks up some normal dwarves.
I build a bridge in Sheltem town.

This won’t do anything.

They needed a hero to be effective.

Following this crushing defeat I think I’ll call it a day. Next time we face Ector in combat again and hopefully take back my village.
