Update 55: Actually That Brief

Now we could go ahead and explore the 15th floor, but let's see what the townsfolk have to say first.

The old man at the port said that huge squid escaped south of Armoroad... I hear it breeds in the south seas, somewhere that’s surrounded by reefs and seaweed clumps. There’s no way I’ll get it now. But maybe you could! Go on and catch that Overlord Squid for me!

Uhh, we'll see what we can do.

The journey below the sea and into dangerous ruins must be positively fraught with tension. Allow me to suggest a remedy... Buy Napier brand special items from the Firm!

Are you just trying to pawn off items you have too much of?

They’re nourishing and... What? P-Preposterous! How dare you imply I’m liquidating overstock!

Well let's see what equipment we've unlocked.

The Kijin Daiou is unlocked by selling a Proboscis from the Mistletoes on the Manticore Sea Quest. But it's weaker than the Katana you can get from the Mother Dragons.

The Wakizashi is the first normal Katana we can get without going for boss drops or any Sea Quests.

The Origin Tablets is the ultimate Book. The attack power isn't anything notable, but the forges are very nice. Unfortunately, we can't afford it right now.

The Slashed Mail is unlocked by selling the Manticore's regular drop. It provides a 30% resistance to Slash attacks.

The Siren Tunic provides a 20% resistance to Head Binds.

The Death Magatama provides a 30% resistance to Instant Death.

The Sleep Gas provides a 25% chance to inflict Sleep. Meh.

What's wrong, Missy?

One of the guilds that operated out my bar... They... They won’t be coming anymore. I’m the owner of this place. I can’t be getting sentimental about stuff like this. But it still hurts to know that I’ll never get to see their faces again...

Oh, um...

I'm very sorry to hear that.

Oh, Missy. Anyways, there aren't any bar patrons to talk to.

So let's turn in some quests.

Welcome back! Were you able to turn off whatever was making the statues appear?

Yeah, we just had to do... and that to turn it off.

......I see. I wonder who made such an annoying machine! Seriously, it’s just inexcuseable! But, now Herm will be safe to investigate the ruins! Well... safer, anyway. Your keen intellect is what brought you victory this time! You deserve this reward! Here, take it.

Hey! That's different from the listed reward! (And there's only one way to solve this quest for the record.)

And localization messed up. There aren't supposed to be two Stun Hammers! Anyways the Stun Hammer (the one we just got) grants us Paralyze forges. Anyways, let's level up our party members.

Endure has a 70% chance to activate.

Endless Battle now gives a 16% boost to physical damage.

Time to turn in the other quest.

Welcoming! Did you get the job done?

She has different responses to whatever you brought her. If you got the Odd Platter:

Ah, so this is it, hmm? ...It’s lighter than it looks. I wonder what this is made of! It is truly a mystery. I am sure that moron Wilbur will be content with this.

If you got the Ancient Money:

Ah, so this is it, hmm? Is this... money? I have never seen anything like it! Still, bringing me money so I can give you money as a reward is irony, yes? Haha! ...I kid, I kid. I am sure that moron Wilbur will be liking this.

If you got the Beautiful Statue:

Ah, so this is it, hmm? ...What a strange statue. Did people back then have huge eyes like this? Fascinating... I am sure that moron Wilbur will like this! He kind of looks like this, too!

In those cases your reward is an Energy Bracelet, and you only get 3800 exp per party member. So buying an antique from Edie nets you a bigger reward there. But if you get the Grey Candelabra:

Ah! This truly feels like something refined and fancy... Let me guess... Is it a weapon? Is that what it is? Is it?

...It's a candlestick.

A candlestick!? Well... It could be used as a weapon, then, if you really wanted to. Still, I am sure that moron Wilbur will be very happy to get this! Another job well done! Here, take your reward!

We get those two items and 4500 exp per party member. Much better!

The Strength Ring provides a 5 STR bonus to a character. Very nice. And I somehow forgot to spend Scott and Susan's level ups. I am good at video games.

Ooh, a new weapon?

Aha! I had a feeling you would jump for this one! You love your weapons, don’t you? Haha! That request was made by that stubborn old weapon artisan Tatara. He is wanting to make a weapon from the new metals that are going around lately. What he wants from you is 5 Spearhead Chips and 1 Damascus Edge! It may be tough... But he says he will make you a weapon of your choice! Well, then... You know what to do! Do it, please!

And that's when we ran into you all and told you what happened.

Oh, okay. You sure you don't need a break after all that?

I think we'll be fine.

That's nice of you!

...Hm? How generous of me, you say? Not so much. I’m trying to avoid the hassle of cleaning up after the newbies when they get killed.

The kid at the inn talked about it a few times.

Well, he showed up at the port the other day and caused quite a ruckus. The boy at the inn has delusions of catching it himself... But we all know that’s just not possible. The sea where the Overlord Squid dwells is south of the city, protected by impassable reefs. But if you sail in that direction, maybe you could lure it in...

I suppose it's worth a shot. Shall we go after it?

I guess we don't have much to lose.

See those two golden fish at the bottom? We'll be going there.

Tch, no Overlord Squid, or whatever that thing was called.

Wait! I think I see something right over there!

Gotcha!

Oh boy. Let me just say right now that I got extremely lucky. The Overlord Squid is the bane of people who try to 100% complete this game. It's an extremely, and I mean extremely rare fish to catch. It can only be found in places where Sea Milks are common fish. So sometimes it's not even possible to find it because the right fishing spots aren't available. And the kicker? You only have a 2% chance of finding one at those fishing spots. And there is no way to boost the chances of finding one. Okay, there technically are, but trying to use those methods will actually lower the chances of finding an Overlord Squid. It can take several weeks for some people find one, especially since you have to spend 24 hours in the Labyrinth in order to respawn any fishing spots. And you can't use Horseplay in order to pass the time, because the game actually needs you to walk for 720 turns to respawn the fish. So yeah, it's a huge pain to get in most cases. And I just happened to get it on my first try.

This is not to be repeated outside these halls, but he was my first love. I’ve always hoped I could see him at least once more while I still draw breath...

Perhaps you'll see him again someday!

...Wait, just how old is the princess!?

And how does she look way younger than Flowdia!?

Maybe she takes better care of her skin or something?

Yes, we have.

Olympia told me a little bit about it once. She said something about it being the Deep Ones’ lair... It must be dangerous there, but please try to defeat the Deep Ones, for all our sakes.

We'll make sure to take down every last one of them!

Yeah, that's what we're doing.

I can hardly have a conversation in the Deep City without them coming up, so I was curious. I understand that you can’t go exploring without a little danger, just... be careful, okay?

I care not. I will continue to protect the Abyssal King. That is my only purpose.

Okay, then... Keep doing your thing, I guess.

I suppose we better get back to the Labyrinth.

I finally remember to use up our skill points. Rapier Mastery now gives Scott a 7% boost to his regular attacks.

And Susan also gets another point in there.

So I was giving Ketos the beatdown of a lifetime, and then-

Um, Rose. You may want to watch where you're-

What? You can totally see that there was a gaping hole in the ground! "Give way" and "booby trap", my butt!

AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Ooh, I think I heard a crunch. Or the sound of several things breaking.

Should... Should we go after her?

We shouldn't leave her alone down there, that's for sure.

Very well! GERONIMOOOOO!

So here's the gimmick of the 15th floor. Pitfalls. Which we'll go through next time.

MMPH MMPH MMMMMMPH MMMMPH MMMPH!

Hmm, I can hear her, but where is Rose?

Uhh, you're sitting on her.

Oh, goodness! Sorry! What were you trying to say?

I was trying to say, GET YOUR BUTT OFF MY FACE! Pwah! Pwah! Ugh-ow ow ow! Oh, I think I broke... everything.

Well, we can always have Faye take a look at you. Hmm, maybe we should take her up on that offer to take a break.

Yeah, I think I'd like thaoooww ow... Just get me back to Armoroad.

So lets take a look at our guild, though most of them haven't changed that much.

Aw crud, I forgot to change Charlotte's skillset once again. Oh well, she is kind of a fragile character, but can build up Limit super fast. She hits decently hard with her regular attacks.

Rose is our most durable physical attacker, being safe choice for a damage dealer, and gets stronger with each kill. She's not the strongest option for an attacker, and does have to keep an eye on her TP pool.

Scott is a speedy little physical attacker. He can deal a lot of damage since he's a bit ahead of the curve (Though that gap will close soon enough.) Also, doesn't have to worry about his TP pool so much thanks to Trickster.

Susan is our buffing support, enabling the party to kill things faster with Attack Order and Eagle Eye. She also provides some passive healing with Monarch March.

Fang is our lockdown support, being able to bind and inflict ailments on enemies. If he gets partnered up with Alice, they can lock down every enemy in the fight the moment one of them gets hit with an ailment.

Faye is our healer, and can do a great job at keeping everyone alive, and can protect them from ailments and the like.

Cassandra is our defensive support, being able to protect everyone else from physical and elemental attacks, keeping them alive. The latter is nice if they decide to go after a specific FOE in the 4th Stratum.

Sidney is our strongest damage dealer period, but is a bit of a glass cannon thanks to Front Mortar. Also, can't use his skills that often thanks to his tiny TP pool.

Akatsuki is a supporting party member. He can stop others from worrying about their TP pools thanks to Dark Ether, and can get quick pick offs with Izuna. Takanoha also lets him contribute some actual damage to fights.

Asteria is our elemental attacker, which means she can dispatch certain enemies with ease. Also doesn't have to worry about her TP pool at all.

Alice can instantly kill enemies with Kubikiri, but some enemies will be resistant to that. Thanks to Suikyou being at max level, if she gets partnered up with Fang, those two can lock down all enemies in an encounter if necessary.

Vote for up to 3 party members that you want to see explore the rest of the 4th Stratum. Votes must be bolded.
