In these next ten battles, the fighting is punctuated by ominous thunder, but the enemies I face aren't all that much tougher (though, in the last couple battles, a couple of my weaker party members end up standing around not doing anything because they can only do chip damage and gain 1 EXP in exchange).

The layouts for these battles feel kind of lazy and low effort. Given that it's a bonus dungeon the devs could have made some really interesting challenges here, but I'm pretty much just fighting every tier of enemy clumped together for easy pickings.

Marcia picks up a weapon upgrade for Karen.

More end-game armor. I give it to Fam.

Nice! Ophelia picked up an upgrade for herself.

Finally, an interesting layout, and with very tanky enemies to boot. Even though they are super weak to lightning I can only defeat them at a rate of one per turn because they're so scattered.

One last armor upgrade, this time going to Ophelia.

Seeing this unusual layout makes me all the more disappointed that so few battles had any sort of creativity to them.

Karen picks up a sword upgrade for Leon and I promptly forget that it exists.

At the end of the battle, a cutscene plays out:

Lee-Ann: The storm has finally quieted...
Marcia: It's almost dawn.
Ralph: Looks like the last stop is just above us.
Ophelia: Yeah...and I can feel a terrible energy. I don't know what's waiting for us up there, but I'm sure it's not human.
Leon: Not human, huh...it's finally time [for the last battle].

Final Stage: Dawn

Ralph: Doesn't look like there's anybody there.
T. T.: It's too dark to see clearly.
Lee-Ann: No, there's someone there.
Leon: But who...?
(The camera pans up as a dark silhouette comes into view.)

Leon: That...can't be....
Fam: No way...I saw [his corpse] with my own eyes...how is this possible?
(The light grows.)
Lee-Ann: Father!
(The music grows ominous as Avi raises his arms and summons several large demons.)

This is it. The final battle. I could go straight for Avi, but some of the demons have drops and I also don't want them alive to pester me. Still, I trigger the usual boss aggro dialogue to get it out of the way.

Lee-Ann: Father, stop! Don't you recognize me?
Avi: ......
Ophelia: Lee-Ann! He isn't your father any more! I can't believe that scumbag Baruk would leave behind something like this!
T. T.: I've heard something about this from my friends who know [more] magic [than I]...could this be the legendary "Crazed Warrior"?
Leon: What? But isn't that Avi--my father?
T. T.: They'd snatch the hearts of the living or the dead, then infuse unusually power into it, turning them into abnormal creatures with a terrifying curse. That's a "Crazed Warrior".
Fam: Isn't there some way we can save him!?
T. T.: He's already dead...now all we can do is release him from the agony of a fate worse than death.
Lee-Ann: No...father! Father!

(At this point there's a jump in the video because I had to edit out loading from the start of the turn. Dunno if it's the emulator being a derp or the game itself having problems, but if I keep it running too long the animations stop playing properly and the game also doesn't remove dead enemies from the field.)

Also, I forgot to highlight Avi's stats while playing the game, so here they are:

(Description: "Was given the title of the strongest warrior. However, he has since lost his conscience and become a killing machine that thirsts for blood.")

I slowly whittle away the minions and then surround Avi and beat his face in, giving the last hit to Brian.

Lee-Ann: Father...father...father!
Avi: That voice...Lee-Ann...?
Lee-Ann: Father!?
Leon: Wonderful! He's still alive!?
T. T.: So he's returned to the way he was when alive...but, that means...
Ophelia: Indeed.
(Beat; the music changes)
Lee-Ann: Father...it's me. Big brother is here as well...
Avi: Leon...you...there?
Leon: I'm here, Father...
Avi: You call me father? Though I once abanonded you, you're still willing...?
Leon: Because of Lee-Ann, I was able to understand why Father dedicated himself to the monsters...so...
Avi: Forgive me...I can't make up for anything no matter how much I apologize...
Leon: Father, I....will also go to Turuk and work with Sir Helios to complete Father's dream of creating a country where men and monsters can live together. So, come with me, Father...
Avi: You...will? But, I don't think...you need my help...any more...I'm...already...
Leon: Father...
Avi: Please forgive this foolish father of yours...Lee-Ann...Leon...thank you...
Lee-Ann: Father!!
(The camera pans up and fades to black.)

And that's it for Farland Saga 1! Farland Saga 2 to begin sometime next week, hopefully.
