12: A Giant Walks Among You

This is it!

The final battle! ...of Ninian Mode.

If we're getting serious for a moment, I really like this chapter name.

And then she died, the end. No, wait.

You don't fool me, I've played this game before.

We get to bring the entire squad for this one, but some of them are too benched to be of any real use. Nice pack mules, though.

This guy has a devil axe.

He's really the only enemy on the map who's worth looking closely at. There's just a bunch of irons here, which, as you may recall, are set to not have any interesting effects. (I do kind of regret leaving that on, because there could be Hilarity™ otherwise.)

Decent spread of classes, though.

Lundgren himself should not pose too much of a problem.

He has uh. -- attack? ...an Eclipse lance??

That on its own would make him entirely harmless, since it will just halve the target's health and can only kill someone with 1HP, but he does also have a javelin so he can kill anyone he brings to ~10-15 or so.

Anyway, that's for much later. For now, we're up against mooks, so let's charge blindly on!

Doesn't really matter, we have movement for days. For days, I tell you!

Florina... is strong.

Lucius isn't, but he's fast, and this is Fire Emblem so that's even better.

Oh, excuse me!

Rock on.

That is not generally what I would call a general.

I was confident enough in Florina's ability to survive even a devil axe hit that I baited it with her. Wow, that is actually a hell of a lot of HP, come to think of it!

Oh yeah, we can actually cross water. I keep forgetting that corsairs have that ability.

Another one falls to Florina's lance!

That means we can kill more mans more faster.

This is super rude.

You call that a hit!?

Of course, Florina isn't getting all the exp.

You can't tell me what to do! I'll hoard it until the final battle and then

oh wait this is the final battle never mind

It also isn't an energy ring.

uhhhhh. Well, infinite uses would be nice, but it's basically Elfire all over again. It's down one might, up three weight and four points of hit from the hand axe. Which is also infinite use! And four weapon ranks lower.

It may have some other effects that we don't know about, of course, but no one has the axe rank to check it out. (Though speaking of, thinking about it after the fact, I probably should have at least tried Elfire...)

Florina can oneshot snags.

Oh yeah! Lords can also cross rivers. I forget about that, too.

At least it's not Dorcas getting poisoned this time...

(Dorcas is still good, by the way.)

Get out of here, Lyn, this is Ninian Mode now.

Weirdly defensive for a thief.

Of course, enemy pirates can do it too...

I wanted the new one to go for Florina as well, but he went for Dorcas along with the myrm. Neither of them accomplished anything in life.

Hmmmm. Two of these are new.

Four might effective damage is still not a lot of damage, it's heavy, and it's inaccurate.

As we found out in chapter 2, the armourslayer is quite good, high price and low uses aside. It's light, it's strong, and it has 1-2 range. I would buy one, if this weren't the last map.

The steel bow looks really nice, too. Same might as vanilla, but it's up 7 hit and 17 (!) uses, and down 4 weight. Lucius has 6 con!

The other shop only has the regular stuff. Lightning would be really good for Erk, light, strong, incredibly accurate - and 55 uses. But again, final map.

I don't see myself needing it, but the temptation was too great so I bought a steel bow to check it out and huh. It's another Eclipse weapon! That could be pretty handy for a weak character like Lucius, for guaranteed damage against big, tanky targets. But at the same time, would also have been a really nice hard-hitting option that wouldn't slow him down, and would have let him delete flying enemies with ease... I'm a little torn on this.

Still, this is pretty funny!

...I actually don't want to do that, though.

I have other plans for Lundgren.

He is very purple. I like very purple, but this guy has got to go.

Florina... is strong.

And now, we do it again!

ffff come on Florina

Bardin'!

Stabbin'!

Stabbin' some more!

Stabbity!

Stabby stab stab! Phew, I think that's enough.

oh wait, she got one for landing the killing blow too, never mind

Anyway!

Florinatron activated. Running startup checks. All systems set to "Kill".

So yes, part of the reason I've wanted to train up Florina was that I knew soldiers get stupid con on promotion. Now, she can use the Emblem Lance with only a -1 to speed.

(Another part, of course, is that we know the knight crest is lost forever if we don't spend it here, we don't know when we'll get another promotion item because rewards are random now, and Florina is the only one we have who can use this.)

However, that power does come at a cost you didn't see in the promotion screen: Florina has gone from a ludicrous 8 move as a soldier to a more restrained 6 as a general. I always knew that was a possibility - but it's probably still worth it, and much better than it could have been. +1 from vanilla generals!

(Also, Heath was there too.)

Ehhhh... oh well. It didn't take very long with the turbo cranked up.

And so,

Ninian's family tree got just a bit more confusing than it used to be,

Priscilla found herself a pegasus somehow?

And then they made out.

Some of these numbers do not make very much sense! Jaffar doesn't even have a battle record in his character screen; I think that's what happens for people who aren't normally part of Lyn mode when they show up there.

This seems more reasonable.

D O R C A S

(Well known for his cheery outlook and happy-go-lucky demeanour!)

And I don't know about this, but let's say that's correct, too.

Ninian gets a happy ending!

And a pretty little CG. She looks a little different now. I can't really tell since it's so dark... did she dye her hair or something...?

And then

-UH.

I'm sure that's not a sign of something breaking catastrophically...

(At this point in the original thread, I put up a poll to decide if and how I should continue this run. But since you're reading this on the archive, you just need to hit "next" to find out what the results were. Isn't the internet wonderful?)
