13: Get A Load Of This Guy

Welcome to Ninian's Bizarre Randomizer: BadCon Tendency! Last time, I asked for reader input, and there was a pretty strong majority in favour of continuing with Guy (formerly Hector) normal mode. So let's do that!

Yune tries to keep every character's palette looking decent, and most of them so far have looked quite nice. Guy, however, is by far the ugliest I've seen - I'm not sure why when both Priscilla and Rath look decent in the same class, but we'll have to deal with it.

It's a bit odd that two out of three lords are replaced by classes that more or less do the same thing as the original ones. Matthewood is the odd one out - but just like in vanilla, he seems overshadowed by Hector. Perhaps even more so now.

Poor Eliwood.

...game...? I'm pretty sure I picked the right mode!

Would have been funny if it weren't just playable characters who got randomized, but npcs as well...

You can hear peasants whispering in the taverns. "His palette. Something about it is just unnatural!"

Kent status: Worried.

Oswin replaced by Kent is basically a non-change, to be honest. Although, we still haven't seen his class...

Their colours kind of still match.

This game doesn't do a whole lot with the out-of-battle animations.

I like when it does, though! Especially slamming that guy into the wall like that. Guy is so good.

...Heath's pretty good too.

Of course, he's still a bard, still rockin'. He does keep the boot boost (bootst?) and will be Very Helpful. His keys have been replenished - which is good, because once again we'd be stuck otherwise.

And then we have Guy.

Guy is actually very, very good, with one tiny little blatant, glaring, terrible flaw dragging the whole thing down.

A handaxe weighs 11. It weighs Guy down by 8. 6 speed on a level 1 character isn't bad, but -2 effective speed is. Guy will need six speed levels to stand a chance of doubling literally anything.

This is not great.

However, his strength is good (on top of axes generally being strong) and his def is excellent. This may be enough to save him.

(Matthewood is worse. I am so glad you voted Hector route.)

Guy comes with a handaxe and a devil axe.

He starts right next to that cracked wall you saw in the shots above. He can't oneshot it with the handaxe but

what, you're still here? Fine.

So we get better rng this time, and then we dance and switch him to the weapon that doesn't suck.

Nice thing about this chapter is you can get a whole bunch of exp on Guy with very little effort. I won't need to heal him all map. This is so much nicer than Matthew's first map, let me tell you...

While Guy plays with the enemies, Heath gets the door. Any of these doors will work; this one is just the closest.

Hey! Don't waste my vulneraries, you jerk!

Jerks get the devil axe.

Guys get the vulneraries.

And the swordreavers, apparently!

This would be so very, very nice if we had actual con. Might still help, though.

Using the handaxe for this wall. No sense risking... things.

I focus on breaking down the wall so the 1-range enemies will come after me. The 1-2 range ones will happily suicide.

I'm here to axe some questions!

Strength is good, but we're still slow.

Guy! Speed!!

Last vulnerary.

This guy lives. I could have busted down his wall and killed him,

but I didn't feel he was worth the trouble.

I would... respectfully disagree.

The Lord Guy, that's us, the guy with the lordiness.

He's not bullshitting.

...Also, he has 1-2 range, whereas Wire does not. So that... helps a bit.

Some music, and a wrap. That fucking def stat! It's bonkers.

It really wasn't that bad. Can't make any promises about the next chapter! Although we do have a secret weapon...
