Not present in a chapter called "Village of Silence": the Silence status effect.

Exactly my reaction to fighting that Paladin last chapter.

Ah, there's the Enemyphraims from cutscenes past! And then we go to the prep screen.

Saleh is another prepromote who hasn't changed class - well, okay, that's not entirely true, he's in the female Sage class now (different caps). He's a better magical damage dealer right now than Ross or Moulder likely ever will be, which I know is damning with faint praise, but still. In comparison to vanilla Saleh, he's +1 level, +5 HP, -5 magic, +1 skill, -5 speed, -5 luck, -6 defense, and +8 resistance, before taking Fury into account. His bases are... alright, I guess (though that resistance score is really good), which is a good thing because he's not getting much more in the way of anything else. Just look at those growths
Fury means he'll be taking 6 damage after every fight no matter what, but his first skill, Lifetaker, will help alleviate that - if he attacks and kills an enemy, he gets 25% of his max HP back. His last skill, Savior, removes the Skill/Speed penalties for rescuing units.

He's also lost his Thunder tome, and has worse weapon ranks across the board - C Anima, D Light/Staff as opposed to A Anima, B Light, and C Staff. I'll still be using him as my secondary healer after Kyle, for this chapter at least.

Not really much else to say about this chapter. I ended up cutting out a good chunk of it, given it amounts to "and then like one or two enemies suicided into [Lute / Artur / Joshua / Tana] and slowly trekking through the mountains with nothing happening.

Ooh, Ewan is a Wyvern Rider! I was wondering when I'd get a proper flier.

Let's see if Moulder can't turn himself around a bit after his disappointing levels as of late.

Seth is here, too.

In this shot are the only flying enemies left on the map after that wyvern rider from earlier (plus a pegasus knight that suicided on Lute). A lot of this chapter is going to be waiting for shit like soldiers and mages to slowly come down from the mountains.

Still a nice palette.

Artur takes out one of those pegasus knights to get A Level.

Guess who forgot about Dazzle and thought he'd be clever by baiting out an Archer with a javelin?

Being able to Shove onto mountains is great because it helps speed up rout chapters like this.

Enemyphraims have Celerity, too! Good thing they can't really make it work with their Skill.

Vanessa doesn't give a shit about mountains, anyway.

Joshua keeps on Joshuaing.

My Ephraim could beat your Ephraim... if I had him

Vanessa chucks Joshua into the mountains. Pick your Iron Axe... and Iron!

wait

And it takes me until doing that to realize the peak movement options don't allow characters to just walk around on impassable terrain as they please, it's only there to help them get off. It does save me one turn of waiting for this soldier to climb down, though.

The mountains mean nothing to Vanessa when she's guaranteed to hit and has a non-0 crit rate.

The iron axe's accuracy is so high that Joshua is guaranteed to hit, even on mountains

Oh boy, a Longbow! ...Not that there's anything to worry about with those stats. Ewan, how did you let this archer chase you into your house?

Speaking of which, on the next turn, Tana gets Lance-Locked Unit #7 into our party.

I'm... not entirely sure how I feel about Ewan. On one hand, he has excellent bases for being level 2 and unpromoted, but on the other, his growths are pretty shit other than HP and strength. His bases will carry him for now (as long as he stays away from enemy mages), but we'll see how long that lasts.
We've seen Canto and Seal Speed before, but his personal skill is Amaterasu, which heals allies within 2 spaces of him for 20% of their max HP at the start of the turn.

Ewan immediately endears himself to me with gratuitous overkill and a fairly normal palette.

Meanwhile, Lute is scouring the mountains to deal with the slowest-moving enemies in the universe and get underwhelming levels along the way.

The soldier tries to attack Ewan and becomes wyvern food. I imagine most of his levels will look like this.

Oh jesus the other peg knight had a Dragonspear, look at that damage They're actually very inaccurate, but this one had Certain Blow to give it an actual chance to hit.

Eirika overkills a Journeyman for a bad level.

Me neither, lady. How about that Barrier st-

Oh! That's really nice, actually.

"Joshua's Regular Brush With Death" is filmed live in front of a studio audience.

Neimi just barely fails to pick off the other Enemyphraim, but gets a Good Level for her trouble.

Joshua finishes said Enemyphraim, and then Artur takes out the Journeyman behind him. Something I've neglected to mention until now is that I've had a lot of enemies drop Torches - I haven't kept count, but it feels like way more than you'd get for free in a regular run of the whole game.

Fury actually does a lot to help Saleh, it's just a shame about the whole self-damaging thing. Ewan goes in for the kill and gets a Slim Lance out of it.

I thought Tana would be able to bait out the boss, but all that happens is a Myrmidon suiciding on her. If it means more levels like this, though, I'm all for it!

Lute and this Recruit have been having a slapfight in the mountains for several turns now, and the Recruit manages to land a hit.

Dancing. Now L'arachel can Impale... with a skill cap of 10.

(i missed a level screenshot from last chapter, but she just got HP and speed that time)

Ewan picks off another Enemyphraim for, yep, the same exact level as the last one.

The boss isn't exactly a challenge, especially after the last one. Seth could one-shot it on account of being a flier...

...but there's this guy right next to the boss, and I'd rather not have Seth die horribly on the enemy phase.

Oh, hey, I finally get a chance to show off the skill flash for Sure Shot!

There's still some more reinforcements left over from earlier, so Moulder gets rid of one of them. Fun fact: Ever since he joined at the end of Chapter 1, he's only gotten a single point in Magic.

A mercenary with no survival instincts attempts to hit Tana. You can guess how that goes.

Oh for fuck's sake why does it have to be the same two, non-flying classes over and over on a rout chapter

But while we're here, I said Seth could one-shot the boss, so...

The only other promoted enemy on the map is this Wight and... yeah.

Doing that caused a Mage to go after her, so she pulls back and into the Vendor to get Saleh some light magic.

"Light" in both senses of the word.

I neglected to give Kyle a Restore staff, but he can still level up off healing poison damage.

For whatever reason I thought the mage would go after Saleh if he attacked her, but instead she (logically) went for Tana again.

Then I had Neimi try her luck because she always seems to get lucky, so why not? She actually managed to land a hit on the enemy phase.

Lute gives Ewan a dose of Rally Speed to (hopefully) speed things up a little.

How did he land this?! I swear I'm not RNG abusing, this hit really happened naturally.

And third time's a charm.

After Ewan and Lute clean up, the map is left looking like this:

The recruit on the right absolutely refuses to move, which means Ewan, Lute or Moulder is going to have to fly up and pick her off themselves.

...Not before they take care of the other one, though.

But Moulder beats them to the punch, and that's that. Kind of a wet fart for the chapter to go out on, but that's fitting for the chapter, I suppose.

NEXT TIME:

The world's worst survival chapter boss.
