Hello everyone, Saladin Rising here! I'm going to be showing off Thracia 776 mode in the FE8 self randomizer. What's Thracia 776 mode? Simply put, it's a very cool easter egg/feature in the self-randomizer that makes the gameplay more like Thracia 776. You activate the mode by adding 776 to the end of your random seed, like so:

Thracia 776 mode gives each unit the "capture" skill, which allows you capture an enemy unit in battle. I'll be showing this off a whole lot later, and the gist is that any weapon the enemy is carrying can be stolen. No longer do you have to wait for a shop or a lucky drop to get Longbows, Killer weapons, or early game Dark Magic, just steal them!

Thracia 776 mode also puts the game on a one-RN system just like Thracia 776, and also changes the 0-100 accuracy scale to a 1-99 scale. The long-form on 1 RN vs 2 RN can be found here: https://serenesforest.net/general/true-hit/
The short version is that 2 RN generally helps the player by making low accuracy attacks less likely to hit, and high accuracy attacks more likely to hit. You'll definitely notice a difference, but it's not that bad. And hey, sometimes you're the one who dodges a 70% attack while hitting a 40%.

This playthrough is going to be on a seed I lucked into that's basically perfect for showing off Thracia 776 mode. I've already played through this seed on another file up to Chapter 20, and occasionally I may reference or compare units to that playthrough.

Alright, let's get started!

Hard difficulty, because even when randomized Sacred Stones is not the hardest game.

These are the settings. I left thieves unrandomized because I like getting all the chests. Ironically, I realized partway through that chests all you really need thieves for when everyone in your army can just steal enemy items and weapons.

I've always thought Magvel looks like a heart.

It's funny how units in cutscenes are randomized, so whatever you see is almost guaranteed to not be what you end up getting or facing.

Not-Brigand Franz leaves and now it's time for Seth vs Valter!

Valter is very... purple, while Seth looks okay.

Cutscene fight ends. I like that Seth could totally 2-shot Valter with ease if this wasn't scripted.

Seth and Eirika flee, and we get to see their actual classes, Cyclops and Mage.

Seth gives Eirika a Rapier Bolting tome holy shit that's going to be helpful later.

Not in this playthrough he didn't. Okay, let's see what we've got to work with here:

Growths:

Seth is a Cyclops and is a complete fucking tank holy shit. Not the greatest speed but he is basically immune to physical damage for the first third of the game, and his speed growth is 60% so he'll be great if he can hit that a few times. He's what I was referring to when I said this seed was good for Thracia 776 mode; you need someone with high con and good stats/damage to capture an enemy and Seth has those in spades.

Now for Eirika:

Growths:

Eirika is okay. She has Rally Movement for a skill and her growths aren't the greatest, but a magic user for a main character is nice and she's got a very, very useful ace in the hole, that Thunder tome. Weapon stats are also randomized, and take a look at what we've got:

10 fucking might, a nice 79 accuracy, 3 crit and only 4 weight. (Normally Thunder has 8 might and 6 weight.) And remember that we can steal any enemy Thunder tome we see, so getting more won't be a problem.

Seth's Steel Axe on the other hand is okay but very, very heavy:

It weighs him down by 4 speed, making his AS only 3. Meh, he's fucking Cyclops, he can handle it.

Let's see what we're facing.

This guy sucks, and lol at getting that skill on an archer.

This guy is okay and Wrath is a potentially dangerous skill, but his weapon is fairly weak and has piss-poor accuracy.

To arms!

Seth is apparently a Super Saiyan.

Enemy phase, and these guys can do absolutely nothing to Seth:

So here's how Capture works; if you attack using the "Capture" command then you attack with all of your stats halved (yes, that includes Defense/Resistance):

If you reduce the enemy's HP to zero when doing this, they're "Captured":

They then count as if they're a Rescued unit, and reduce your stats accordingly:

Once the next turn rolls around, you can then steal their shit:

The enemy character portrait is always Fir, which is another easter egg in the randomizer, and I believe the whole thing is a joke/reference to her getting captured in FE6.

Once you've stolen all the enemy's stuff, just drop them using the drop command and they disappear from the map:

And now Seth has a Longbow:

I'm not sure why allied units sometimes have their items green and droppable, it's something weird with the randomizer. It happens when you get new unit and it only lasts for one chapter.

Alright, time to take out the Wyvern. Notice how Eirika doesn't have the capture command, but Seth does in the second screenshot (that's why he would be doubled and actually take damage):

Eirika goes for the kill and oh my, Wrath is actually kinda scary:

Eirika's palette looks very nice, red and yellow with no weird color patches.

Yes I do.

Alright, boss time!

He also kinda sucks, but that Steel Bow packs a punch if it hits.

The boss hits Eirika down to 1 HP while Eirika counter-attacks:

Next turn Eirika activates flashy crit mode from close range and kills him:

First level-up of the LP:

And it's a pretty good one! Thunder more than makes up for Eirika's low starting Magic, and hitting that 35% speed growth will really help out in the early chapters.

Please ignore the arrow and the red dripping from my robes, I'm totally fine.
