Puzzles Reinvented

Not too many puzzles to clean up right now...

3. You've followed the advice given in Hint 2 but just went around in little circles? That must mean you started in one of the top-left squares.

Those squares are actually the last ones on the path.

S. From Hint 3 you know the last squares on the path. Now think carefully and proceed backwards from here.

The starting square is one of the five Star squares.

I dunno what the hints are on about here. Just pick a tile, any tile, follow it from there, you'll find the last one. Then you can just follow the path backwards and be done. It's very simple and very linear.

2. You can make a six and a nine out of a five by changing one square.

3. You can make a zero, a six, and a nine out of an eight by changing one square.

Now it's just a matter of finding the difference between the two numbers.

S. One of the correct numbers is 50, 56, or 59. Now try doing the math.

I think the hardest part here might be figuring out the difference between the two numbers you end up with. Which I think says everything really.

Only one of the three here that wasn't mandatory, but it was Generic Hidden Puzzle so whatever.

3. From the start, the correct route is not the one that goes up.

S. The route that goes right from the start point isn't the correct one either. Head down to make your escape!

Nothin' to it, really.

Suspicion

Unfortunately, moments later enemy reinforcements arrive, allowing Dimitri to escape.

We passed the chapter count of Pandora's Box a while back, but we're now officially a chapter longer than Curious Village as well. I'unno, I think that's neat.

Chinatown

Before we move anywhere else, I spy something that we should deal with.

I do. Yet another banana skin, sitting in the middle of the road. I'll go and pick it up.
Hold on, Luke!
Why, what's wrong? Oh wait... Let me guess. You've got another banana puzzle for me?
Ho ho! Right you are, my boy.

We'll get to this later, Professor. For now, we'll just head away from the tower.

Sounds good to me.

You sure you're not running off to formulate some kind of evil plan?
Now why would you ever accuse me of that?! Truly, I'm wounded.
I'm just going to work on a pet project of mine that I've been meaning to finish.
Very well, Paul. Meet up with us later whe you're ready. You can find us-
Yeah, yeah, Layton. I'm no fool. I'll know where to find you.

Shame that Don Paolo's up and left for now. I was sorta looking forward to seeing him solve a puzzle as himself at least once. At least we've got the Pagoda where he definitely did some (albeit in disguise), which means this game has had 5 characters solve puzzles. Pretty big jump to the previous two just having Layton and Luke, huh?

I understand your concern, Luke, but I think we can trust him now.
I suppose so, Professor.
He must have cared an awful lot for Claire if losing her to you turned him into "Don Paolo".
He certainly was quite besotted. But enough about that now. We have work to do.
Let's get moving.
All right, but I'm still none the wiser as to our next step, especially now we know Future Layton is a fake.
Well, in light of these new developments, our first priority is to rescue the prime minister.

And we're going to find it! Oh, but first we need to go to the hotel.
That's right. We need to meet Flora and Big Luke at the hotel. Hopefully they got back safely.

We could take the subway all the way back, or we could just... walk the whole way. Which'd be tedious, but we do have some stuff to do en route.

So, let's get a-walkin'.

Is something the matter?
Yeah. I'm supposed to go to my friend's house today, but I don't know where it is.
Her instructions make no sense at all. They're absolute gibberish. Here, have a look.

Sorry Duncan, we're a bit busy right now.

And that's why we're going to duck into the toy store for a second.

Searching for Clues

Because Viv has something new for us, you see.

Hello there.
You're just the people I need!
Why? What's up?
I'm a bit stuck, you see...
What do you mean?
I've got this puzzle on my hands, and it's been putting me through the wringer.
A puzzle, you say? In that case, you're talking to the right gentleman!
Oh good! See, it's about this thing that happened during Father's research.

Puzzles Reinvented

Bit unfortunate, but this one doesn't work in-thread without me telling you the answer and pretending I didn't.

1. Did you put the pieces back together carefully? If you do it correctly, the answer should reveal itself.

2. The number isn't written down. Did you notice there are some edges that fit together perfectly and some that don't?

Just have to rearrange these scraps to put the note together again, which... shows us the answer.

3. If you line up all the edges that fit together perfectly, the gaps in the middle will reveal a number.

S. Did you notice the number that's formed by the gaps between the pieces? That's your answer. It's two digits.

Searching for Clues

It's no trouble, miss. Like any aspiring gentleman worth his salt, I live to serve!

Chequer has nothing at all for nothing; he just repeats a line from forever ago.

Chinatown

So we're just gonna leave the store and walk a bit further towards leaving Chinatown.

Man dances like a fool in an efort to fulfil his heart's desires.
But only when the hootenanny is over does he regret his actions. Such is the plight of mankind.
Uh, I think I'm already in over my head. Maybe I should go...
Hold it! The lesson here is a simple one. I speak of love. People do such strange things in its name.

Misha is totally trying way too hard to have this sound deep.

Worry not. One day you too will be compelled to ponder the myriad facets of the feeling called love.
Perhaps then you will be ready to gaze into the heart of my puzzle and unravel its complexity.

...Sure. Sure, whatever you say, Misha.

One last little detour before we're done here, though.

Just gonna nip over to the bookstore and talk to Maya.

Gosh, there are so many books I want to read, but I don't get that much pocket money!
That's a story I know all too well. I could rarely afford all the books I wanted to read as a child.
But you know, if money's tight, you can always go and read at the library.
Erm... Don't you think encouraging customers to read at the library might be bad for business?
Perhaps. But I'm all for anything that gets more people interested in reading.
I like your enthusiasm!
You know, all this talk of money and books just inspired me to think up this puzzle.

Er, that's great, but we'll come back for it later.

Yes, I'm stumped. But don't worry! I'm usually really good at working out how to spend money!

Alright, so now we're done in Chinatown. Hurray!

We'll head to the subway to just quickly get back towards Flatstone Street.

There's pretty much nothing between here and there, so this saves so much time.

More London Streets

There's not absolutely nothing, though, so we'll walk back up to Hardy. I think this is quicker than walking down.

Feels it to me, at least.

Why are you so down in the dumps?
Mmm? Oh hello there, little chappie. I was just thinking about my son, which made me all sad.
He loves swimming, you see, which got me thinking about this puzzle.

Poor Hardy. Still just stuck thinking about the life he was forcibly removed from...

Anyway, Raleigh has something to try and stump us with, I see.

Really? What is it?
I've just cooked up an amazing puzzle! It's so hard, it'll break your brain!

That's great. Really. In that case, we'll be back for it later if that's okay.

Ah, I see Chelmey's hanging out here like he was a while back. Barton's... eating in Chinatown. Still.

You look quite deep in thought there, Inspector. Have you found any new information on the case?
Ah, Layton. Just the man I was looking for.
You see, I've uncovered a clue that has simply stummped me. Here, you have a look.

Sorry Inspector, that sounds like something you should do. I mean, that IS your job after all...

We'll just take this path here behind the hotel. Seems weird, but we wanna head past it for now; this is just more convenient.

Because we're heading on over here to talk to Art.

But of course. How may I be of service?

That just segues immediately into the puzzle from there. We'll get to it later, though.

Mercifully we don't have anything to do back in the present. For the best, because geez that'd be a lot of extra running around.

We'll double back towards the hotel but still just move past it indirectly so we can talk to Dupree.

Every time we see you, you have your nose in the paper. You must really like current affairs.
That's the understatement of the year. Just think - all the world's news is here in these pages.
How could I not devote my days to perusing them?
But there are hardly any pictures! And the print is so small! Doesn't it get boring?

...I keep saying this, I know, but Luke is at least 13.

He's written like something thought he was 6 years old at times, I swear.

Boring?! The paper's bursting with interesting stuff. Like this puzzle, for instance.

Eh, thinking about it, we're close enough to the hotel so we'll get back to this in a bit.

Speaking of the hotel, let's actually head there now.

Correct. Or at least that's what he said.
Funny. We went through every floor in the pagoda and I didn't see anything like a time machine.
Well observed, my boy!

I think he was heading to another base, perhaps the facility where he conducts his time travel research.
Is that what you went looking for while we were climbing the Towering Pagoda with Don Paolo?
Yes - in part, anyway. I'll explain everything once we've caught up with Flora and Big Luke.
Until then, I challenge you to think about the situation on your own.

Puzzles Reinvented

I dunno if you really took the moment to count or anything, but we have... 9 puzzles to do here. Welp, let's get to it, then!

1. It might seem obvious, but you can't go straight at the first junction.

2. Go down at the first junction and take a left at the next one.

Now go for a slide!

1. Try to work out which "certain door" your friend is referring to and start from there.

1. Think carefully about the detours the couples need to take to avoid crossing paths. They can't all simply take the shortest path to each other.

2. Couple D-d's path to each other has one turn in it.

1. The last digit of 99 is 9, so work out which combinations of books add up to a number ending with 9.

1. Of the three possible valves that the water can pass through after the first split in the hosepipe, the one you need to open is either the middle one or the bottom one!

2. After opening the correct valve of the two mentioned in Hint 1, choose the route that involves opening the bottom valve!

1. Compare all the statements carefully. Did you notice that if A is lying, then B would also be lying?

2. If D is lying, then C would be lying.

If C is lying, then D would be lying.

Also, you'll soon realise that if B is lying there is more than one cake eater and therefore more than one liar.

Are they all liars?! No. Only one person involved in this puzzle is lying.

1. Don't jump to conclusions. Carefully consider all the options.

1. If there weren't those two squares sticking out, you could cut the board in half vertically and make two wide ones. But that's not what you're looking for.

2. You're not looking for twos or fives, either. The key is to figure out how to incorporate each of the two squares sticking out into the shape of a number.

1. Think of all the combinations of the four numbers that you can add together to get a one-digit answer.

There are not many combinations, so you should be able to find the results in no time.

2. There is no combination of numbers here that can be added together to produce an answer that is 1, 3, 5 or 7.

Times like this call for a new approach. Pay close attention to the shape of each stamp.
