Puzzles Reinvented 2

So, it's been a long journey to get here... but I think it's time to properly put a stop to Clive's machinations.

3. The answer is a multiple of three.

S. The answer is not a two-digit number. You're so close now. You can do it!

I generally get this one wrong once... or twice... before getting it right. I find it harder than it looks for some reason.

Ohey, this gives us our final sticker for book 3. We can deal with all of 'em now.

Later. We've got more important things to deal with first.

3. The first tile that falls is a diamond.

The last tile that falls is a spade.

S. One of the two spade tiles in the second column from the left is the last tile that falls.

Finding the correct starting point is what makes this really difficult. It's hard to tell at first if you've hit a deadend because it's the actual end or because you made a mistake.

That's not a knock against it, mind. That means its a decent enough challenge, as it should be.

3. Each bot's route is a loop. Once you've identified both their routes, you just need to find the one room that neither of them passes.

S. If you break up the map into four quadrants, the generator room is in the bottom-right one.

Conversely, this one's pretty simple. Could track the routes both bots take, but that's a bit too long. I find it pretty easy to spot the one square that no path will ever go past without that.

3. Have you noticed that only certain blocks can be swapped with each other and still connect? Keep an eye out for blocks that have matching wire entry and exit points.

S. The two blocks are both in the third row. Look carefully.

This is, um, very messy to look at, at first. It's easier if you trace the paths in different colours.

Even then, the swap wouldn't be the easiest thing to spot correctly. It's doable, but it's a bit of a nasty one.

Suspicion

However, in doing so, he is forced to start the clock ticking on an explosive charge in the fortress.

With only 10 minutes until detonation, Layton wracks his brain for a way to save the city.

That's right folks, we only have five ten minutes until Namek London explodes!

Oh and we're in the final, 15th, chapter. And it's an epilogue..? Even though we haven't actually finished yet? Sure, okay.

The Mobile Fortress (Live)
honestly i dont like the regular version but this is pretty good give it a listen if you can

We need to reverse the energy flow. That will break the generator and shut down the fortress.
How are we going to do that?
I have an idea! Look over here!

Since we pulled Bill Hawks out of this machine, it's technically available now...

We can effectively overload the fortress' power supply, thus putting a halt to Clive's plan.
I see you've been thinking about this too, Professor. Is there anything you don't know about?

Amazing, Professor!
It's too early to celebrate, Luke. If we fail here, many lives may still be lost.
Are you up to the challenge, Professor?

Not just that. Once we pass this point, we're past the point of no return so we can't double back for anything. Good thing we made sure to pick everything up along the way.

It's all up to you now, Professor.

Puzzles Reinvented 2

3. You don't need to use gear group a. Try working groups b and c into the system.

S. Place gear group c into group a's original slot. Then rotate group b 180 degrees and place it...somewhere.

Since this isn't the first time we've done a cog-based puzzle, it's not quite as hard as the 80 Picarats imply it could be.

That's not to say it's
easy, but we already have an understanding of the underlying mechanics here.

The Mobile Fortress (Live)

Somewhere, something just suddenly... explodes...??

What was that?
Reversing the energy flow has caused the fortress to start destroying itself!
Oh no!
We've got to get out of here right now!

Yeah, uh, I think that ""10 minute"" time limit got shortened from this!

The fortress is tearing itself apart and causing some of the systems to go haywire.
I don't think we can risk going back up to the deck!
Then we'll just have to use the car to escape. This way!

Unwinding

The Unwound Future
hey its literally the titular track its very good!!

Yeah, uhh, so that thing about the fortress self-destructing? That seems to be happening right sharpish.

Now what is it?

Clive's realising just how much his plan is unravelling very quickly at this point.

So much some emanating from the fortress that he can see it from his evil villain room and everything.

This isn't happening.
It can't end this way...

Sadly, this particular shout is... all I can describe it as is "very Yuri Lowenthal."

And then Clive gets hit by a large mass of wires.

Which knocks him spark out.

...Pun not intended, I swear.

End

The Mobile Fortress (Live)

Since we've seen very clearly just how bad a state this place is, we know for a fact we don't have time to dilly-dally. Let's get outta here!

Bill, shut up and get in.

I'll do my best to drive safely, Prime Minister.
What are you waiting for? We've got to go!
This is madness...

Fortress Escape

I really, really don't think Bill is in a position to complain about, well, anything. Literally everything that has happened is ultimately his fault.

But most of this scene is just... a single camera shot at this angle of the Replica Laytonmobile driving. It looks neat, but it doesn't make for the best screenshots.

But up ahead we have an obstacle that can't just be driven over, around or through...

End

Don't panic, Luke. I'm sure you can find a way over this mess for us!

Puzzles Reinvented 2

3. There are three blocks on the bottom row. You need to destroy the one on the left and the one on the right. Leave the middle block intact.

S. Do not destroy the square block in the top-right of the stack.

The Mobile Fortress (Live)

We're not out of the woods yes. Hold on tight, everyone!

The Stronghold of Madness

Silence

Now that we've gotten past that blockage, we can keep on driving out...

...Although this is cut a bit short.

Well, we're definitely out at least. Small victories.

But, uh, plummeting like this is definitely not a good method.

Why, the professor nearly lost his hat!

Professor Layton's Theme

I don't like this flashback, because it's a flashback to a scene we saw in full... and this wasn't part of it. That's just bad storytelling.

See that red button over there?

Sooooo... what does THIS button do?

Why, it modifies the Replica Laytonmobile into... a convertible? I'm not seeing how this helps, even if it does nearly fling Bill Hawks out.

Oh and some wings and a propeller also shoot out. That's probably more useful.

We're actually flying!
Can you believe it?
Yes, Paul was always very good with machines.
Um, Professor, I didn't know you could fly a plane!

Well done, Layton!

Don Paolo's already made his own way back up to London proper, and is perched on a random rooftop watching everything unfold. Safe and sensible, really.

Silence

Yes, sir! All residents of the underground city have been brought topside, sir. Yes, sir!
Hurry up, Layton...

They don't really mention it, but... most of the folks that were underground had to be in on the plan to some level, right? Or at least actors and stuff. Obviously, the scientists and some people like Hardy weren't, since they thought they were in a different time and/or place, but the regular citizens had to know what was really going on...

The Unwound Future

As we're flying away, it's hard for folks to miss one little detail...

Clive is still here, and he's still laid out from before.

You do know that, don't you, Professor?
...I do.

Oh my God, Bill. Stop complaining about everything.

Besides, we're not all going back. Only Celeste is...

...Though she didn't quite stick the landing...

Mercifully, she managed to stop herself from falling off completely and is able to make a run toward Clive.

Not to worry, Luke.
When you're all safe, I'll go back to her.

While Layton flies the three children back toward safety, Celeste has finished working her way around to Clive.

All inhabitants are safe now!
My thanks, Inspector.

Now that everyone is safe and sound, Layton hops back into the car and flies off.

I get how it was able to level itself out before, basically like a glider... but how does it take off...?

Don't worry about it.

Sorrow

That's not true, Clive. You can always start again and try to repair the damage you've done.
Huh?
We can talk about that later. This place won't hold much later.

I can't just leave you here.
But don't you know what I've done? What I tried to do?
Yes, but I would never leave you here to die.

I... I see.
There will be time to talk more later. We need to leave now.

I do like this shot where we can see down the hole the fortress made to the fake London underground. It looks really cool, even if it also hammers home how much damage Clive caused.

Now that Celeste is helping Clive out of this deathtrap...

The big ol' titanic fortress here loses its footing.

Layton really needs to hurry back here.

And sure enough...

Silence

Layton picks the two up off-screen, and we just see the after-effects of it. And the fortress falling out of sight.

Because, well, it fell into that hole after all.

At least it had the decency to wait until it was safely away from everyone else before it detonated.

Hm...

End

Memories

I think so, Professor!

The Lost Future
hey so its the ending and its a long'n; maybe just watch it if you can

Someone apprehend that man at once!

Inspector, a moment please?
Just what do you think you're doing? This man poses an imminent threat to our national security!
I cannot demy the damage that Clive has done to our city.

You've got some nerve, man!
Professor, I-
Answer me one question, Clive.

Dimitri was sure he needed you for his project, but I knew full well of the threat you posed to my plan.
Though I suppose I still led you all the way to the heat of my base, didnt I?

Maybe part of me wanted somebody to save me from my all-consuming madness.
As you did, all those years ago...

Weirdly, a slap sound effect plays here which means... the Professor slapped a child...?

There's nothing to be done. Jump back in there and you'll die too!

I genuinely thought Layton already knew this and that was how he figured out Future Luke was really Clive. But no, that was completely unrelated. Somehow.

Deep down inside, I hoped you might be able to talk me down from the edge of insanity again.
This is the second time you've saved my life now. Thank you.
Clive...
Don't worry about me. I intend to atone for my crimes.

And you too, Clive.
Barton, take him back to headquarters.
Yes, sir!

Yes, people can often be so blinded by their own motivations that they lose sight of the damage they do.

So this is where Chelmey is gonna arrest Hawks, right?

Just what are you implying, Inspector?
Nothing at all. Just stating the facts, sir. Now, if you'll excuse me, I still have work to do.

Guess not. So, yeah, despite literally everything that happened explicitly being Bill Hawks fault... he gets away with it. Again.

For expedience, and convenience, I editted these little bits out from the video. It just helps it flow a teeny bit better that way.

It was terrible. But I see you must have loved Claire very much to do what you did.
The more I reflect on it, the more unsure I am as to whether it was love...or pride that compelled me.
For ten long year, I chased after what so many called impossible... But I've come to my senses now.
Hmm.

What are you referring to?

Sorrow

I don't think I have much longer here, Hershel.
I don't know what you mean.

What did you say?
Oi, there you are, Layton! I did a background check on Claire's family, like you asked.

Then...

But you... You can't really mean...

So, uhhh... time travel was fake because obviously. A giant underground replica city is more realistic.

Also time travel is actually real.

While it defies logic, it seems the experiment ten years ago wasn't a complete failure.
Somehow Claire was shot ten years into the future.
To our present!
Yes. The time machine worked, if only for that single moment before it exploded.
That's... that's not possible!
Unfortunately, however, there were more complications.

It was trying to return to its own time.
I attribute that phenomenon to the incomplete nature of the time machine. She didn't have long here.

But it seems inevitable that she'll return to her own time... to the moment of the blast.
I begged Dimitri to stop his work. Tampering further with time can only result in more anomalies.
There's no telling what chaos we'd release upon the world if we tried to save the dead from their fate.
The flow of time must remain linear.

...Do we?

But Dimitri wouldn't listen to me. That's when I knew the only way to stop him was through you, Hershel.
What Dimitri, Bill and I did ten years ago broke the laws of nature. And now we must pay.

It's time to end this, Dimitri.
Yes...it does seem that way.
My research has threatened our very existence and it could do so again.

Silence

The Lost Future
same video link as above but timestamped for here because seriously: watch this bit instead (if you can)

I have to go back to my own time.

No, Claire...

plans for the future.
You won't forget, will you?

You can't go!

I can't! I won't!

And I know you'll stay strong. After all...

I must go now, Hershel.
Thank you for everything.
Goodbye.

Time Travel (Instrumental) (Piano)
take your pick, they're all fantastic in their own way; the regular instrumental is the version used in-game here for what its worth

Eh?

Huh?!

As he cries, and it begins to rain...

...The Professor does the one thing we never thought he'd do.

As per usual, the credits are intersperced with fun scenes on the top-screen. Some of them are of things we've seen already, some of them are like this and fill in some blanks. Getting to see Clive in happier times...

...I see Luke eyeing that mask. Nice continuity there.

Would've been nice to see Chelmey, Barton, Chelton and Barmey interacting at any point. This is as close as we get.

Oh, here's a thing we were told and are now being shown.

Letting the parrot go free. Subject Three's here watching this happen, and the game never really tell you it, except I think maybe in a post-game unlocked profile, but the parrot was Subject One.

Subject Two is only alluded to in that one conversation.

I left the bottom screen here because... this is every creditted voice actor. All six of them. Notice how no roles are listed, because, well, there'd be too many to list for some of 'em. Think of all the times someone was voiced by Liam O'Brien.

You probably missed at least one.

Luke working on his collection of masks and... the goggles from the Towering Pagoda, eh? Wonder what he'll do with those.

Okay, the fish is one thing but... why is there a bone in the cake...?!

Leaving Flora behind... again... but I kinda get why here. Still, they should totally take her with them.

i see you there stachenscarfen what is your deal explain yourself

The chances of this really happening are... actually kinda unlikely. It's not impossible, since it might very well have done, but definitely not as depicted here. Luke would've been, at most, three years old at the time.

Silence

Like normal, we have a post-credits scene...

Oh no, my boy.

Now, Luke... You know a gentleman never

im not crying youre crying

While we're done with most of the the main game, we're not quite done yet. We've still plenty of other stuff to do before we're properly finished here.
