Back here again.

The Mech Dragon stack is no problem by this point. On to the main event.

Crystal Dragon's got himself a snazzy FF6 dragon sprite. He's also changed his battle music to the Lunarian theme.

Crystal Dragon still uses Holy, but Crystalize is both new and very strong.

Cosmo's been nerfed, but I think Crystal Dragon's damage output has gone up on average.

The counters to Focus/Jump/Throw are still there, if you're wondering.

For science, I test how well Wall works. Holy is reflectable, but Crystalize and Cosmo aren't. Black Hole is still around to remove it anyway.

It's time for my secret weapon: Lowering the battle speed.

Also, this time around I saved all my Silk Webs. Crystal Dragon is now as slow as physically possible.

The early phase goes uneventfully.

Uggggggh

With the Blinks set up again, we can finally damage Crystal Dragon without it healing itself.

When in the drain counter phase, Crystal Dragon stops switching polarities and stays stuck in whichever setting it was last in. Considering how much better my magic attacks are, it kinda sucks to have it in magic immunity mode!

At least after getting it back to low health, it stays stuck in physical immunity mode this time.

But even so, Crystal Dragon's offense is just too much.

I wonder how the Selenes are doing.

Seems they've remodeled.

What could be in the basement...

This thing, apparently.

We're here for the Selenes, poking unknown objects can come later.

Upstairs is the old Selene room.

FF5 sprite, yadda yadda.

Guess who forgot to equip Aegis shields?

Instead of slamming my face into a metaphorical brick wall, let's go poke that crystal.

It's an FF5 sprite, of course. Unlike the Crystal fight from FF5, these are all the same, no elemental specialties here. The Crystals use the Prelude as battle music.

65535/65535. No weaknesses found.

Digest has 60 power and inflicts sap. It's normally used by Malboros, which have fuck-all magic power.

Crystals have a lot more magic power than Malboros. And of course, there's four of these in a row.

The Crystals resist holy, because of course they do. Not that Edge really cares, between Throw and Sword. Kain has the non-elemental Ultima weapon. Cecil, though...

Somehow, all four Blasters target someone immune.

The Crystals are polite enough to not have any counters, so that's nice.

Absorb: For when Vitalize just isn't enough.

Cecil's on item duty today.

noooooooo

At least the low-health Crystal has the decency to do this as a normal attack and not a counter like some bosses.

Ah yes, that well-known part of a crystal's anatomy, the beak. Also guess who unequipped the Aegis shields again?

This time, the Aegis shields are equipped. Blaster's targeting is far less nice than before, though.

Oh god my Bahamut spam managed to get all the Crystals into danger mode help

At least they healed out of danger mode so I can recover from this.

Bahamut's too dangerous, so it's Bio and Nuke for us.

No Black Holes around, so I can set up Blink in relative peace.

Fuck this.

Now, I could go through this again, this time setting up Wall on everyone as well as Blink, but I checked the FF4 Ultima Discord and learned an important fact: After beating all these superbosses, you unlock one final superboss who is so powerful, the general recommendation is to attempt it with everyone at level 99 and with at least 3 Adamant armors. No thank you. These bosses are optional for a reason, so I'm off to fight the final boss instead of continuing with this madness. If you want to see the final superboss, play the hack yourself.

Also I learned how to reach this chest.

Yes, that one.

Here goes!

Just show up with Edge in the party and he'll use his ninja tricks to get to the chest.

+5 to agility, gives immunity to sleep/blind/berserk, and more importantly, regular attacks have a 25% chance to steal from the enemy. Probably worth using if gotten as soon as Edge joins.

One more side note before the end of the game: Rabbi Raccoon pointed out this cave on the far West of the Underworld that I missed.

This sulfurous magma allows me to brew these... I'll give you some if you got something good to trade!

How about this shiny moonrock?

What magnificent bauble! Here... take it!

LunarGems can drop from Pink Puffs, so if you're grinding tails for the super-superboss, you can stock up on M-Potions too, I guess?

Next time: At last, the final boss!
