Hello everyone! This is Fionordequester; long-time goon currently taking a stab at Youtube commentating. I've been doing screenshot LPs for a while, but only one was ever actually complete. The rest were plagued with hiatuses; enough so that I'd eventually dropped it. Then COVID-19 happened, and suddenly, I had more free time than I knew what to do with. I wanted to do LPs again, but still didn't feel up for screenshots, so I tried video instead. As it turns out... It's really fun! I did about 9 episodes of this game, then realized I could be sharing it here, as well. So here I am, with permission from the mods and everything!

For the sake of discussion, I will be posting these one day at a time. As for what you can expect...

Dragon Quest is essentially video gaming's oldest JRPG series. Technically, there's older series, like Wizardry & Ultima, but Dragon Quest was the one that really put RPGs on the map for the kids raised on the Nintendo. It's always been fun to play, too! The game's have always retained the same basic, simple, gameplay that made the first one a hit, while also evolving juuust enough to remain relevant. Dragon Quest 1 was the prototype involving just a single guy, Dragon Quests 2-3 were open-ended adventures that added party members and other mechanical complexities, Dragon Quests 4-5 introduced recruitable NPCs, recruitable monsters, focused plots with expanded characterization, as well as Party A.I...

...And then Dragon Quest 6 came out, trying to do everything the previous games did, and more. It also introduced a Job Class system that would stick around for future games, as well as two different versions of its own world (sort of like the Light & Dark Worlds in "Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past". Did that work?

For the most part, yes. I have more fun playing Dragon Quest 6 than every other game in the series, with Dragon Quest 4 being a close runner-up. However, there are times where it feels like the game designers tried to cram in every last idea they ever had in their brainstorming sessions, even when said ideas clashed with each other. For most, however, it created a sense of unevenness that pervaded the entire experience; For example, a story that starts off with clear and focused goals... Only to then lose all sense of direction after about the first 3rd of it.

Fortunately, I'm the kind of gamer that completely dug all DQVI's strong points, and was completely unbothered by whatever negatives it had! So, it will be my pleasure to introduce this 100% speed walkthrough of my favorite game in the franchise! Here's my walkthrough's strengths, along with its potential areas for improvement (and please share whether or not you agree with me!)

STRENGTHS:
-This is on the SNES version; the hardest version of the game. The Remakes made tweaks to make it easier, so this walkthrough will apply to every version of the game!
-Heavy editing to cut out all the boring parts, or speed them up. This is, after all, a JRPG!
-An extremely fast walkthrough covering the SNES version, consisting of about 90% speedrun strats (the remaining 10% being concessions for safety; not all speedrun strats are reliable!)
-All Mini Medals collected, Best-Dressed Contest & Slimopolis beaten on the hardest setting, and the secret ending unlocked (that's my definition of "100%" for this game)

WEAKNESSES (I worry these things will make for a lack of flavor. Tell me if you agree or not):
-I don't talk to any NPC not required to progress. I don't skip the text that is there, but the vids are mostly gameplay. Do tell me if you want vids covering more NPC dialogue.
-Covering the SNES version also means we don't have the Party Chat that the Remakes had.
-As I said, I'm already up to Episode 9. If there are any serious areas of improvement, I won't be able to fix them till Episode 10, at the earliest. Sorry!

With that all said, let's get started!
