Game 5: Gloucester @ Almyra

Gloucester has been riding the best record in the month of December, only losing 3 games all month. Almyra has had perhaps the best win of the month, but still sit behind Gloucester in the standings.

These two teams look nice and stylish, Almyra with the understated beige and forest green and Gloucester well, being Gloucester.

Both teams enjoy hitting hard and letting things get ugly.

Gloucester started the game with 5 turnovers, but managed to only let Almyra score 4 points off of them.

Our Isekai protag, Dewan Hernandez, got a powerful layup to start Gloucester’s scoring.

However, Almyra would strike right back, with Nader Shah:

Gloucester’s top scorer, Knack 3, came out swinging late in the first as well:

The 1st quarter would end with Almyra up 11-13.

The 2nd quarter started with an abrupt run from Gloucester, led by Quark Handknuckle:

With a 19-13 lead, Almyra pushed back:

Al Dawla would score 6 points in the quarter.

Gloucester would make a couple strange mistakes near the end of the quarter as well:

And Almyra would capitalize:

They managed to cut the 6 point lead in half by halftime, with Gloucester up 31-28.

The 3rd quarter started with a quick spurt of offense from Knack 3, as he scored 6 unanswered points:

Up 37-28, things began to look rocky for Almyra.

But backup players Khosrow Parviz and Ardashir Sasan gave the Falcons a much needed boost.

They pulled together 11 unanswered points to take a 37-39 lead.

And that was when things started to go from physical to physical

Subtle Secretary would get a flagrant 1 foul for this takedown of Cyrus Teispid, and both teams immediately got more heated.

Gloucester played better after the foul, maybe because they felt like the flagrant was a bad call, who knows:

They went on a 17-5 run, mostly on the back of Knack 3 and lots of fouls from Almyra. The deficit had now ballooned to 10 points.

Cyrus Teispid managed to at least cut that to single digits:

The 3rd ended with Gloucester up 8, 54-46.

But it would be silly to count Almyra out:

With only 2 minutes left in the game, they were now within 2 points, 63-61.

Of course Knack 3 was the Gloucester player ready to step up when needed:

It was now 67-61, and Almyra had only 30 seconds to try to either win or tie the game:

67-64, and with Gloucester missing an easy layup, it was Almyra’s chance to tie:

Dewan Hernandez, who only had 4 points and 3 rebounds up to that point in the game, comes up remarkably clutch and blocks Almyra’s best shooter. Two foul shots later, and Almyra would miss the half court shot to try to stay within two.

Gloucester wins, 69-64.
